1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Do you make clothes for your doll?

Sep 17, 2010

    1. I'm crap at sewing and still I love to sew for my dolls. In fact, I don't like buying clothes at all, it doesn't feel fulfilling when dressing my dolls in clothes that I bought... My dolls feel more 'mine' when I make them some crappy outfits myself, heehee ^^

P.S.: I only buy them shoes, can't make those myself :)

    2. I haven't got my doll yet :'( But I can't WAAAIT to make him some clothes!! Sewing clothes is one of the main reasons I got him, really, and while I have got him a few clothes as well, they're more just to see what company clothes are like more than anything. I think the majority of clothes he's going to be wearing will be stuff I make :D Of course, bought clothes can be extremely beautiful and it's always nice to support various companies or individual sellers by buying their clothes too.

    3. I'd love to, but I need to learn how to sew first~!

    4. I do sew for my dolls, especially daily clothes. I love making costumes too but they take a lot longer than regular clothes with the bells and whistle. I also knit. I would love to learn to crochet some day.

    5. I tried a couple of times, but I need lots of improvement with the sewing technique.
I think I will practice more in the future, maybe I can make some cute simple outfits...

    6. Yes! I love to sew, and doll clothes take way less time and fabric than human sized clothes! I've only made my girl 2 outfits so far, but I can't wait to make more!

    7. I haven't gotten my two dolls yet, still on layaway with two payments to go, but I'm already planning all of the outfits that I want them to wear. Still in the sketching/planning phase, but I will definitely be making most, if not all of the clothes. Especially since all of the clothes that I plan for them is not anything that I can really find for sale at most places. The only thing I plan on buying for them are shoes and socks really.

    8. I don't have my dolls yet, but I plan to. Potentially making bjd clothes was one of the things that made me decide to get into the hobby :D

    9. Yes oh yes oh god yes. I make them for my dolls all the time - some of my dolls are utter clothes horses and have more clothes than they'll ever wear. Some just stick in their one or two outfits. I also make clothes for my friend and artist in return for painting work and sometimes to sell.

    10. I plan on sewing my own clothes when my BJD finally arrives. I sew a lot thanks to cosplay, which has also helped me with designing my own patterns. I know the outfits I want for him I wont be able to find online. Plus it's a lot of fun to design and make my own clothes. The hard part is finding notions small enough for his outfits. Though I will probable end up having to buy shoes for him online.

    11. I am new to the BJD world and would like to make my own clothes for my doll. Does anyone know a good website or place where you can get a pattern for BJD clothes?

    12. If I could sew I would, but my skills with either the machine or hand sewing... create a vacuum. (i.e. ...They suck!) Maybe someday I'll get brave and try again.

    13. Honestly, going off of a few "patters" (where you lay down your doll, do some math, and cut), I am absolute crap at it. Practice makes perfect though! I think it would be so much more economical and personal to make them. I only plan on buying my doll a few clothes until I can get in the proper practice of sewing. I know what they want better than someone selling anyway.

Then again there is an advantage to buying home made items. Supporting the other collectors and all. ^^

    14. I do some times!

    15. I've crocheted a few things. I'd like to learn to sew for them, but I pretty much suck with a sewing machine and I'm not too learned at the hand sewing so it often looks a bit ridiculous on the inside. Maybe someday I'll try harder, but there are only so many hours in a day, and sometimes I just prefer to support a seamstress with talent exceeding my own.

    16. I use to sew all kind of clothes for my dolls: underwears, coats, dresses etc. I often use second hand clothes etc. I think that this is a way to save money; do it yourself and save.
There is only too less hours in a day for sewing.

    17. Humm, I've made one dress for my doll. I wish to make many more in the future since I love lace, and dress making. My doll doesn't have that many outfits T>T thats another reason.

    18. I've been sewing dolls/for dolls since I was five, and I really enjoy sewing for my BJDs.

    19. Go down to the sewing section on this board. Lots and lots of resources there.

    20. It is similar with me ^^ I prefer sewing for my dolls to buying them clothes, no matter how much better bought clothes would look, because sewing for the dolls is a big part of playing with them. But there are certain things that I just cannot sew, or am incredibly bad at, so I tend to buy these - additionally to trying to sew them and failing  (yes, I even tried shoes once or twice... )
