1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you make clothes for your doll?

Sep 17, 2010

    1. Up to my hobby BJD I was completely not able to sew, but yesterday have tried and the quite good T-short for my boy has I have turned out!

    2. I love sewing, so my dolls are dressed almost exclusively in clothes I've made. (I do have a few pieces that my sister made, and they are lovely) I've been using doll sewing as a means to hone my sewing skills. There are some things that I just hate sewing (suuuits) but that just makes me all the more happy to shell out the cash to have someone else make it, because I know the pain that goes into making them.

    3. yay..I just finished my simple dress..for my, uhm, ehem, *cough cough* little boy.. :D finished it for almost 3 hours..:D

    4. Yep. I'm trying. xD
It's a little bit hard for me, but very interesting. And I'm really enjoying to sew something (but I don't like a result).
Sort of lazy sewing scribbler. xD

    5. Lately I've really been in a sewing mood, so I've been sewing up yukata for my group. I admit, I normally don't sew a lot, but sometimes you just need to be focused upon something intently, and sewing is a great way to focus. ^^

    6. After a long hiatus from sewing, I too am finally back in the mood. Spent last night going through patterns to pick out some that I want to adapt to fit my doll. Now to decide which piece I want to work on first.... So I guess the answer to the question is yes.

    7. Yes I do. For me sewing clothes is the best way to relax after a week full of work.
I always loved to draw different clothing styles but many fabrics are expensive. When I got my first doll I was glad about her size because it gave me the opportunity to make all the things I had to skip before due to several reasons.
Almost all my dolls (and also my friends dolls) wear outfits I made

    8. I do sew a little, but have yet to make any outfits for my dolls. Every time I pull out my machine it seems my family is hitting me up to sew something or mend something! lol SO - I'm an Etsy addict. I'm on there daily checking out the new items from people. It's amazing to me how talented people are with such tiny things. I'm in awe. Love Etsy.

    9. So nice to see someone in the same boat!! ^^
Somehow I think dressing them in clothes I bought is too easy.. it's not fulfilling. Like I couldn't let someone else do the faceup, even though I'm still learning to do my own and they've turned out crappy. I'm willing to learn. The customizing process is the most fun part about getting a new doll... making her yours and yours only :)

    10. I do make clothes for my dolls! Not exclusively, I buy too because I never touched a thread and needle unless I was fixing a button or something until I got into the bjd hobby so my skills are still pretty limited. I can do your basic pants and shirts and though none are ever perfect, I really enjoy it! I feel like it brings me closer to my dolls, is calming and practice makes perfect and I can already see great improvement compared to my first attempts!

The process is very slow at the moment though because I do it by hand so it takes me a while to finish a piece

    11. Yes, that is why i even own one. I am a fashion designer and ball jointed dolls are amazing. They are like dress forms you can play with :)

    12. Nope. I have absolutely no patience  I'm also a perfectionist...so that doesn't help things either.

    13. I have on occasion.. I'm by no means that good at it and I haven't had a working sewing machine in ages but I definitely cannot afford to always buy clothes for my dolls. I'm actually thinking about getting back into it, because I have a ton of fabric just laying around.

    14. I try and fail. xD
Although the dress Elyssa is wearing at the moment is one of my creations :P one of the more successful ones, anyway.

    15. I am trying to.... but nothing good came out yet xD Not even the simplest of things, like a simple dress! But I will get there, slowly! I HAVE to, because sometimes I honestly think that such tiny outfits are too overpriced on certain shops. Etsy seems to be cheaper but nothing on there is what I have in mind.... so, one day I'll sew my own stuff, hopefully.

    16. I'd like to know what some people's opinions are on making Doll clothes by hand rather than ordering/purchasing. Any advice, opinions, or recommendations?

      Thanks~ :)

    17. Hi and welcome to DoA! You will want to look at the Sewing subforum for this sort of help. :)

    18. Oh okay. Thank you! :sweat

    19. I love to sew for my dolls! I think that is essentially what drew me to collecting dolls initially. I sew primarily for my Blythes but am getting into sewing for my Unoas as well ... especially for my poor L-Bi who I have trouble finding clothes for. haha

I have to say after setting teeny tiny Blythe sleeves it is such a luxury sewing the MSD sized clothes. There's so much more room! hahaha

    20. I'm trying. The results are very varied though. I'm also sometimes buying clothes for them, but I find strangely satisfying to sew for them myself.
