1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you make clothes for your doll?

Sep 17, 2010

    1. I've made a few things for my Koujiro and My friends Soom Amber. But nothing to special as of late. Me and a friend are plotting on making some steam-punk clothes for my boy for next A-Kon since he is now an official member of our cosplay group XD;

    2. I made a pair of jeans that are so stiff the poor thing can't move! Guess I need more knee room. And I made her a dress which is so funny because it's so big! I think I've just learned that going by 'measurements only' is not such a good idea. But now she's here and can lend a wee hand.

    3. I can sew a button, in an emergency.... It ends there. xD The domestic arts were never my forte! I admire good workmanship when I see it, but actual sewing doesn't interest me. I am more into the accessorizing. I love hunting down the most perfect clothes & shoes & tchotchkes, and then assembling endless different looks from them. Luckily, I know several amazing tailors, who have stepped into the breach when I can't find what I need at a doll company.

    4. They got a blanket and a small pillow. ...That was the extent of my ability. I can make repairs, but nothing creative. I have repaired old toys for children throughout the years- some for my students, others for kids I worked with through volunteering, and of course my baby cousins. I am sometimes called "Dr. Teddy" jokingly by the youngest as of late as I continue to fix her "Mimi."

...My boys should be glad I -don't- sew.

The things that come into my mind would scar them for life.

    5. One of the main things that drew me to BJDs was the customization aspects - which includes, I think, getting to sew for them!

That being said, I have sewed for both Barbies and American Girl dolls in the past (mostly Barbie). So I enjoy playing seamstress to dolls :)

    6. making cloths is the best part.

I make every thing but shoes.

    7. I've made ferret clothes for Halloween so i'm guessing its not much different and have to give it a try

    8. Yes, I do... I sew a lot of dresses....

    9. I got into sewing through collecting dolls and them not having many clothes, and now the first thing I do when I have a new doll arriving is get the sewing machine and get cracking so that they have at least one 'welcome' outfit when they finally arrive at mine.

    10. I really do want to, but haven't had the time to start on anything yet.

    11. after paying 900 bucks for a doll, alot of us have to make clothes or go broke

    12. Truth be told I don't feel like a doll is mine unless I've made her an outfit of some kind. My Dollstown Mari "Jane" has a small wardrobe of handsewn outfits ranging in era from Elizabethan to Victorian... "Mildred" my Notdoll girl has a drop-waist embroidered white Edwardian era dress on, "Helka" my DT elf wears something that's vaguely Elizabethan but mostly made-up, and my Shinydoll "Sen" has a funky cowlneck thing on that is another made-up style.

Actually I generally dislike sewing and am not that good at it, I just consider it a necessary evil! I can't stand it when I buy an outfit for a doll but it is too heavy, "looks like doll clothes" or is too recognizable. In that case I see the outfit and not the doll, which bothers me! So I grit my teeth and start another round of pattern drafting. Necessary Evil.

However when something turns out and looks right on your doll, it's very rewarding! I wish I enjoyed it more, but I'm too lazy and impatient so far. I have to be sufficiently inspired to be able to get through a sewing project, and that doesn't happen often enough!

    13. >.> I also thought later that I'm blessed by gifts from Kiyakotari and WickedStitchery who spoil me (and my boys) rotten.

    14. Yes
I can make what exactly I want! Better than buying clothes from others!

    15. I'm already a crafty person with her hands in everything else, so making clothes for a doll is just another fun thing on my list! ..even though my skills in this area are lacking a little bit :P

    16. Sometimes, yes. I hope to make more clothes for my dolls soon, though, especially for my SD girl.

    17. I've been making my gang's clothes since the beginning, but now it's even more important to me. I'm going to be jobless in a few days (ah the life of a college kid -_- can you say brooooke?) so I'm determined to sew as much as I can for my dolls and almost completely forgo buying clothes for them at all. (I will still however, buy clothes for myself. There is only so much sacrificing one can take, and the dolls will not get weird looks for not sporting the latest.) As it was, I was only buying coats, uniforms and shoes for them, but I think at this point it's going to be uniforms only (I can probably make a coat. I haven't tried yet, which is all the more reason to do so.) so that I can save money. Thankfully I adore sewing...

    18. I don't right now but i hope to in the future.

    19. Oh yes. I do not even think of buying them clothes anymore due to the price and because sewing is so fun and you get one of a kind pieces not to mention it has helped me learn to better the "Skill" Recently I am working on a duct tape outfit however instead of fabric.

    20. I definitely make my Ignis clothes, because it's cheaper. i stick to buying only necessary items like wings, shoes and accessories.
