Do you make clothes for your doll?

Sep 17, 2010

    1. I ever did, it's was not horrible, enough to start.
But I'm lucky my mother , Veraker, is really talented and makes so beautiful outfits for my dolls and others.

    2. Pretty much all my doll's clothes are hand made. Not that I'm very good at it but I plan on getting better. I do buy clothes but I try to find things to fit their characters so for the most part it's just easier to make them.

    3. Most of the things I have for my dolls are handmade, but only a few of them are made by me. I love to knit and crochet, but I've yet to get the sizing right on an MSD-sized sweater. Dresses go better.

    4. i'm working on my first girl and I'm sewing the clothes onto her. Mainly because they're scraps and I don't plan on changing her as of now.

    5. I've made a couple shirts and have definitely improved with each try. I typically don't have a whole lot of time to sew, but I plan to work on it more.

    6. So far all of my doll's clothes were purchased but I have been practicing my sewing skills so I can eventually make my own. It would be so much more convenient if I had the talent because then I wouldn't have to spend hours searching online for the perfect piece! I tried to make a jacket one time and the whole thing ended up lopsided ahh.

    7. I have a love/hate relationship with making doll clothes... Love because I can enact any specifications I want out of the outfit, hate because sewing tiny clothing is frustrating and so hard to do well :sweat

    8. Sometimes!

      It just comes down to:
-Can I make something similar cheaper?
-Do I have the skills to make it?

If yes, I make it. If no, I buy it. There are also the times when I probably could do something similar myself, but I do have money on hand and like supporting other artists. This usually happens to me on Etsy.

    9. Yes, I do make some of them!

Now, ask me if I make any of them well... ;)

    10. One of the reasons I've been interested in getting a BJD is because I like to sew clothing, but human sized clothes use more fabric :P It also lets me practice self-drafting patterns, without having to use another person or a dress form. I think it's fun to make things on a miniature scale.

    11. I specifically purchased a bjd so I could do pattern work and make clothes for them, that was the main reason for wanting one. So yes, every piece of clothing my dolls have are made by me, except I have purchased shoes. I've tried making shoes for them and have made a silicon mold for soles but my shoes need lots more practice and refining. I've stolen the soles from shoes and remade them from there with good results, so will probably stick with that for now, as I'd rather make the clothing. I've made a couple of wigs also, one from my son's hair I saved from a haircut, lol. It really creeps him out when he sees it and has requested I never do that again! The other wigs were with hair from the beauty supply store, one was for me and the other for a friend. I am taking a hand molding class in May at the pnwbjdexpo and am excited to try something new. I have lots of scraps from the really nice fabrics I use for my bridal business so it's a great way to recycle and makes something fun.

    12. I sew and craft a lot normally, so it makes sense for me to make doll clothes. So far I've made 3 dresses, 5 tank tops, 6 skirts, a jacket, a pair of ballet flats and several pairs of sandals.

    13. as of right now I have made my dolls clothes though I do often gush over how pretty the store bought ones can be however I did buy a sewing machine with the intention of making clothes for my dolls I also have a whole bunch of supplies to make clothes for them so for me to buy clothes from the store it would have to be VERY special. I think it's fun to make clothes for dolls and I think it makes them even more custom not that there's anything wrong with buying clothes of course but I just NEED to be special lol.

    14. I really want to start making clothing for my dolls, I'm very into historical clothing so it would be nice to give them something to wear from the history pages.

    15. My husband just surprise-gifted me with my first sewing machine today...so I will now!! :whee:

(I know there's going to be lots of ugly practice clothes at first but it's okay, I accept that hahaha)

    16. That's part of the reason I got a doll, was to make clothes. I've sewn, but I've only drafted a few simple patterns for myself, so this was going to be an exciting adventure. It's harder than I anticipated but it's awesome, and I'm having fun designing outfits for her.

    17. I began making clothes.... But the kind of looked weird :/ .... So I decided to buy them, from now on.

    18. Yes I made cloths for my BJD, now I have three clothsets made with some little mistakes. xD
But I buy some cloth from companies, too.
Because some cloths are very difficult to made it self...:|:XD:

    19. Yes, of course because my doll clothing measurement is rarely being sold at any bjd online store. It's ios class80. The legs are so long so I make the pants myself. I already made some shirts and pants. I can design and sew human clothes..design and sew doll's clothes is another thing but it's fun and I enjoy it :D

    20. I love making clothes for my dolls especially when I have something set in my mind for the character and I can't find anything online that fits the character for whatever reason.
