1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you make clothes for your doll?

Sep 17, 2010

    1. Oh, yeah, I'm a costumer & cosplayer - learned to sew eons ago for my Barbie doll at age 8 cause my mom wouldn't do it & my allowance wasn't enough for doll clothes PLUS everything else an 8 year old must have (comic books, gum, you know LOL) I got fascinated by BJDs BECAUSE they are so perfect to sew for! I can make all sorts of cosplay for them, do historical costumes plus just everyday street clothes! With far less material than for ME LOL
Now this does not mean that I don't buy them clothes from time to time - cause lazy here, plus some things have accoutrements and fastenings that I can't get anywhere else. Also, dollie flea markets (ie doll meets LOL) are my friend just as Goodwill has finds for ME - I'll pay $3 for an SD T-shirt rather than make it :d

    2. I actually just finished sewing my first doll her clothes and it really made me love her so much more. And I plan on learning to knit before Christmas so I can make her a tacky Christmas sweater!

    3. i love making my clothes for my dolls. Most of their wardrobes are handmade though i also buy individual artisan if they catch my fancy

    4. I make clothes depending on the difficulty, and if I see type of fabric while I'm out that fits my dolls style.

    5. I wish! I do not know how to sew but it is something I'd be interested in in the future

    6. Of course! Sewing is so much fun, especially customizing outfits (and being able to tell people that you did, in fact, make that!) Plus, I can not afford an additional 150 in clothes from any company, so it is up to me to dress my dolls!

    7. knit , crochet and sew yes

    8. Same here as well!
Sewing for them is the plan, though I've been terrible at following through on it so far.

    9. No...but I have plan to make some later :)

    10. I would if I could sew, perhaps one day I'll learn! :)

    11. I try, especially since my dolls have kinda odd proportions (especially my 50cm BBB girl *_*). Most of what I make doesn't turn out right, and I don't really have any skill. I just refuse to fail :sweat

    12. Most of the time, I don't really have money for clothes. I can't really make anything fancy but I do try.

    13. I am trying to make them but I just a beginner lol

    14. I have a lot of fabric and scraps laying around from years of collecting so I'm trying to use it all up yeah.

    15. I try to sew for my dolls. Sometimes it works out, mostly not. I can sew just fine, it's finding a good scaled pattern that's my fail. Trying to make my own or alter patterns has been frustrating. I'm going to keep trying until I get it right though.

    16. I do and I love making clothes for my dolls. Trying to make a hoodie jacket hope I can make it.

    17. Sewing for dolls was what got me into BJDs in the first place. I was already sewing for other types of dolls and wishing I had a larger more realistic doll to sew more elaborate fashions for... so when I happened across pictures of an SD size BJD it was like yup, there's the sewing model I've been wanting.
I've sewn most of the clothing my dolls own. I really enjoy finding inspiration in human fashion and the challenge of scaling things down and making it look as realistic as possible. I do buy things here and there if they really catch my eye but mostly I sew the clothing. I do like shopping for doll jewelry and shoes tho!

    18. I don't at the moment, but I really want to learn to sew so I can bring my own ideas and designs to life.

    19. I'm so bad at sewing. The only thing I can make for my dolls are accessories.

    20. The clothes I want for my future dolls are all very specific, so Id like to make them myself. I've been practicing in preparation for my first doll by making things for my Monster High collection. (:

Eventually I want to get good enough to sell clothes (both for BJDs and MH) on my Etsy!
