Do you make clothes for your doll?

Sep 17, 2010

    1. Oh, yes. That's actually the reason I got into the hobby. I wanted to make clothing for something other than people and to be able to sew just for fun, and dolls were the best choice (didn't really want to make dog clothes!) I love making doll clothing. It's my favorite stuff to sew. It's fun to take my clothing designs and make them for far cheaper than it would be to make human sized clothing of the same design. (Plus, my doll is just a fabulous model!) It allows me to make things out of more expensive fabrics without feeling too guilty because I use a smaller amounts. Making doll clothes is my favorite part of the hobby hands down!

    2. Sewing and knitting for my dolls are my hobby. I like that very much.
My 3 dolls always wear my outfits except 3 outfits I've just bought from Impldoll with my last doll.

    3. I initially bought my dolls purely to have a large, beautiful art doll to make clothing for. The Mecha Angels, being made of equal parts gorgeous and huge, seemed perfect for this.

This may, indeed, be true! I just haven't found out yet. I keep intending to sew for them, but a combination of no space and no time work against that goal.

    4. I cant really sew (in part cuz i have NO patience) and also my sewing machine is broken for unknown reason 8D it just decided to stop working...

    5. This hobby actually got me into sewing.. Before I never did anything with a needle but now making clothes or accesorries for my doll is one of my favourite things to do.. ^^

    6. My doll came in last week and i have been trying to make her some clothes i have be able to make her a skirt but the shirt is causeing me some problems but all in all yes i love to sew.. I was looking for clothes but like everyone else is saying it just way to much..

    7. :I do! Kai doesn't have a lot of clothes as of now (a pair of pants, three shirts, a jacket and a couple of scarves) but I'm planning to make more in the future! My sewing skills still need a lot improvement though.:doh

    8. I once tried. It is now known as the Frankenstein top. I tacked it and tried putting it on Torio to see if it fit but he's a diva and didn't appreciate the home-made effect and so ripped it open when I tried getting it over his arms. I'd love to have the patience to do it and to take part in swaps but it just isn't one of my strong points.

    9. I'm starting I'm starting~ Those tutorials on DOA made it seem so easy and I just bought a sewing machine for that! The dolls are burning holes in my pocket but I'm sure those accessories and clothes are the main culprits draining my $ dry.

But hey, the stupid machine is so much harder to control than I thought and I can barely sew straight! My T-shirt failed for the 3rd time; it's so hard to sew on such small pieces of cloths! :( I'll try practicing on the machine again this weekend...

    10. I really admire those who can make clothes for their dolls, but my sewing skills are really sub-par. x_= I'm unwilling to purchase materials just to ruin them. Maybe someday, if there's a miracle, I'll sew something for my dolls. I've instead been commissioning a friend who sews amazing doll things.

    11. I do~ I've gotten really good at certain things... Like kimonos and yukatas. It's quite fun! I'll be making doll cosplay soon ^^

    12. I don't own a doll yet, but I plan to buy one soon. I have already started practicing at making small clothes that would fit one. :)

    13. I buy and I sew. If I buy, the quality has to be as good as or better than I would make myself, otherwise I won't bother. Shoes I definately buy. I probably could make some - i have cobbled a few doll shoes before, but it is just not worth the trouble for me. I don't get the same amount of enjoyment out of it that I do sewing.

    14. Being able to make clothing for them is only of my loves. I sew clothing for my daughter, my dolls and myself (in that order lately). I have gotten better at adjusting patterns for myself and my daughter due to making patterns for my dolls.

    15. Yes. I am teaching myself to sew through making doll clothes.

My 4 girls almost always wear clothes I made myself. The boy on the other hand is lacking in clothes :( I own 2 sets of outfits for him that I bought instead of sewing myself. This year I will spend extra time getting his wardrobe in shape :)

    16. No. I have alot of respect for those that do. I don't have that kind of talent.

    17. I sew for my girl as much as I can, I really enjoy it too! When sewing for Pucci, I go through Japanese magazines and collections from various designers. It definitely keeps me up to date on the latest fashions.

    18. All the time. Like for many other bjd owners, it was one of the reasons why I got my dolls :] I even started pattern-selling business when I was unemployed, and the dolls helped me a lot to earn some money. Usually I make historical/traditional clothes, at times casual - I have many plans for my dolls, and more are coming as ideas are filling my head quicker that I can realize them :p Even in those days when I don't sew, I make plans for other clothes, study various costumes and look for materials.

    19. I do. It's very interesting for me. But... want a little more time in the day.:eusa_pray

    20. I do have an the odd quirk of wanting to do everything myself when it comes to hobbies- especially this one. I already do everything else including faceups and accessories, so clothes weren't that big of a leap. Sewing is something I love, and I've been making doll clothes since I was a little kid so it wasn't hard to get back into. I invested in a sewing machine for the price of one really nice shop bought outfit, and now I'm on a roll pretty much! Lol- it's just another great facet of this hobby.
