1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you make clothes for your doll?

Sep 17, 2010

    1. Part of the reason I got into BJDs was to learn how to sew, so yes, I do. But he was only completed very recently so I haven't sewn much for him yet. I hand-sewed boxers for him while waiting on his body, and used my mom's sewing machine to make pajama pants for him yesterday. Both turned out all right, though I'm having some issues making a matching top...

    2. I do. It's fun to make stuff for them. I hope to work up to doing something fancy, so far it's mainly pants and jackets.

    3. Yes, I make clothes for my dolls because BJD clothes are so expensive but most of the time I'm too lazy to sew and my dolls have to wear the same clothes. XD

    4. Yes, I do.
Not that I'm any good at it, let's be realistic. But it's a really fun part of the hobby and I'm trying to improve.

    5. I don't since I don't own a BJD yet... but if I did I would! I cosplay and sew my own outfits, so I'm familiar with hand-sewing and using sewing machines. It'll be tough at first to make doll sized clothing, but I hope after some trial and error I can eventually get the hang of it. Plus there are so many great tutorials on here!

    6. I try to but sewing doesn't like me. T-T I can do repairs though. :3

    7. Jolly well! I'm waiting for my first doll, so i'm trying to sew something for him)

    8. Lol I try to but they suck most of the time . I mostly buy clothes.

    9. Definitely: yes!!!! I love sewing!
I do it for my daughters (and sometimes for myself, but it's not as easy), and I've always loved sewing for dolls, also in my youth. I sew for my daughter's dolls and now for mine!
and it's so nice to sew something, and then taking pics, etc...

    10. Ooohh yes, I love sewing for my dolls. I buy socks and shoes but usually make everything else. I've been sewing since junior high school and I guess I can modestly call myself an "expert" by now. The only thing I struggle with is clothes for tinies -- I had a doll the size of a Lati white for a while and finally sold her because making things this small was just too much!! I favor the larger sizes, but my 33cm Sleetwealth Briar has quite an extensive wardrobe too.

    11. My current project is a lined tunic type shirt, Thorsberg trousers, and some boots. I've been tinkering with the patterns I have to make my own thing...and once I am satisfied with what I have, I will probably share. I like changing up patterns, I am no seamstress, but as long as I've got my measurements and a "base" to work from, I'm good to go.

I am not going for period attire, so I have free reign with my ideas. X3

I do admit though, I am having one heck of a time with a coat I want to do, and the thorsberg trousers. XD (I like how they [trousers] look...but they're a bit confusing)

    12. no i don't know how to sewer, i prefer to buy it!

    13. Nah, I don't, but I would like to learn one day. My hands aren't in good physical condition, but for me it dosen't really matter - I'll be trying to make some dresses for my doll.

Anyway. I do not know where to start! Maybe I will visit my grandmother on holiday - she's so talented (but she hasn't seen my little girl yet). But right now I can't even think about it, snow's falling all the time and I'm not able to go to Denmark (where she lives).

      :sigh

    14. Yes, I love sewing clothes for my dolls!! Just another creative outlet that these dolls bring about. Sometimes it can be frustrating, but other times its super fun. Just depends what I'm making. I love how you can make OOAK stuff depending on the style you want your doll to have. But even though I sew (it saves money!!) I still find myself tempted to purchase other dollie clothing out there - it's just nice to have a variety for my dolls!! :)

    15. The only reason I own dolls is to put them in pretty, pretty clothes. And, not having infinite money, this means that I certainly do.

    16. I love sewing for my dolls. I do not have a particular style that I focus on but rather alternate. Sometimes I create something modern, sometimes something historic. It makes the hobby of BJDs so much fun for me!

    17. Sewing and taking pictures are my favorite part of the hobby. I buy shoes, faceups, props, whatever, but I love to sew the dresses (I like the female dolls for this reason, love dresses).

    18. No but my mum was a seamstress and she's made lots of clothing for my dolls. I don't really like to ask though. :?

    19. ...nope, but I make chainmail for them!

    20. I make most of my dolls clothes, as well as take commissions for outfits.

I've done this from the beginning and in fact, when I first got my Hound and almost no one had him yet, I took commissions like crazy for that size, which the income from doing that, in turn, paid for most of my other dolls.

I do buy the occasional item though, as well as work trades with other sewer/designers. Different people have different costuming strengths and it's alot of fun to work trades for things that I don't make as well as others do.

The only doll I have that I don't really sew for is my EID. I just don't enjoy sewing for him, so have bought, or traded for almost his whole wardrobe. I did make him a very detailed costume from the movie Dune though.
