Do you make clothes for your doll?

Sep 17, 2010

    1. I do. I'm a hand-sewer-- it can be relaxing sometimes, and on small projects I find it's a lot easier than it would be to haul out and set up the new sewing machine.

The last thing I made my boy was Christmas pyjama pants (mint green with white polka dots and maroon trim), and I'm hoping to expand his wardrobe this year. I got a medieval outfit pattern for Christmas, so I can make him a costume and maybe bring him along to D&D... and I've got some fabric for making him a couple more t-shirts as well, and some small-wale corduroy for doll pants... I'm pretty excited about getting some sewing done!

      =^__^=

    2. I do. But I'm not really good at this so most of my handmade clothes are rather simple.

    3. I do, but only for girls XD

    4. Not at all! I'd rather leave sewing to those with both talent and interest in it. It would only frustrate me and that takes the enjoyment out of my dolls.

    5. I do and more than likely will for awhile.. Or until someone can point me in the direction of 'professional' medieval clothing makers for my beast of a doll..

    6. I always try to make clothes for my doll but failed... :sigh My sewing skill is bad, the clothes always not fit well on my doll... :doh I will keep on trying to improve my skill because I like to see my doll wearing my handmade clothes ~ :3nodding: kind of sucessful to me... :mwahaha Hope to made an appealing clothes for my doll one day ~ :eusa_pray

    7. I'm still a newbie, but I have made one pretty awful dress for my doll, but it was kind of fun ^_^.... So I do plan to make more.

    8. I will eventually, I even have fabric picked out and a design ready.

    9. I sew by hand. I've never before tried to properly sew anything for Kuro until recently. Several hours of sewing spread through two days only to realize that the fabric I bought was not meant for dolls, it tore when I tried getting it over his finger because I didn't think to measure his hand for the sleeve and the fabric doesn't stretch at all.

I'm not a professional seamstress, heck the most I'd done was about in 2007 playing with the home ec's sewing machines.

Though it brought me down a little, I do intend to try again. They just don't make enough clothing for boys that I like, and the time/love put into a project makes for a great stress reliever.

    10. I make ALL of my doll clothes. I love the scene look and it's easier to find fabric patterns I like then make it myself than to search the internet forever to find already made clothes I sort of like. It also makes the hobby more personal and I enjoy it (and for the same two reasons I also do face-ups myself even though I'm not that good at them).

    11. Like many others have said, I am a cosplayer so I already sew a lot. Making clothes for my doll was one of the biggest draws to the hobby!

    12. When I was first in the hobby i sewed tons of stuff for Kotori, because I knew she was coming Naked and I had ideas for her first outfit. I also hail from a family of people who sew, so perhaps its just in my blood. Nowadays I dont really have the time or the fabric to sew. Mostly because I want to make a specific article of clothing, which I would have to make the drive down to JoAnn's Fabric.
I used to have two large bins of fabric/old clothes. But since I cleaned my room I'm down to 1 bin. :o

    13. I'm not too good at it, but I do sew. Hand-sewing, since either the sewing machine is broken, or I'm at college. ^^; And I'm getting better! I like sewing, I just measure and cut, then pop on a movie I've seen a million times like Raiders of the Lost Ark and by the time the film's over, I've got a shirt, or pants. :)

    14. I am able to sew but I prefer to buy them- or get them in swaps xD

    15. So far I've only tried to make some pj pants... lol, and they didn't turn out all that super. THey are a little too short and very wide n the hips & butt... it makes it look like he's wearing a diaper under the pants! LOL

    16. Yep and i love doing it. I handsew most things because it's easy for me to take wherever i'm going, but i do machine sew some things...like denim, because it hurts my hands if i handsew it! I often don't work with patterns but rather start with a general idea of what i want and go from there. I'm still learning but it's lots of fun.

    17. I sew a lot, even without making dollclothing. At this moment I'm making a doll carrier, because I thought it would be to expensive to buy one. And when my Blueberry comes in, I will be sewing like a monkey on red bull..

    18. I try, but always is a big FAIL for me :|

    19. Correction, I sewed punk kimono top just yesterday in 3 hours, working off a normal kimono pattern. I haven't taken pics yet, but it's black, down to mid-thigh, and sleeveless on left arm with red & black dragon brocade kimono-style right sleeve, and same brocade for collar and obi/sash thing... i'm proud of myself =v=

      lol, wow...

    20. yay, I am so happy! I made my first dress for a doll!
It is a funny story~ my japanese penpal gave a skirt to me as a gift. Unfortunatly japanese sizes are very different from european sizes, so the skirt was way toooo small for me >.<
But then I was thinking about making a dress for Bulma out of the skirt :) It was easy and is looking good on her :)
