Do you mind if your dolls look similar?

Mar 23, 2010

    1. Some molds have similarities but I try to keep all my dolls looking different. I know there are people who are really into dressing 2 of the same molds as twins, or purposely buy 2 of the same molds for all dolls. I enjoy looking at some of them too there's no problem with that but, I can't see myself doing that. ^^

    2. My dolls share everything except for eyes, so, to a certain extent, they're going to look similar in style at some point in time. Their sculpts are so different that it doesn't really register, though. ^_^;;; Regarding their eyes, somehow, they've all 'chosen' green or blue eyes. No other colours look right.... So I don't really mind at all. haha~

    3. I think that I would want my dolls to look different to show their personalities. But I also think I could make them look different even if they were very alike.

    4. I guess I should amend my earlier post by saying I do have a few sets of siblings lined up, and in those cases, I want them similar but no where near identical. I find one major feature to line up, usually the nose, and keep everything else different.

    5. I don't really care if my dolls have similar hair or eye colors. There are very few naturally occuring colors anyway and almost all of my future dolls will have natural hair and eyes. Each sculpt is different enough to stand out IMO.

    6. I like getting dolls that are different so they could have their own different personalities and appearances! :)

    7. Depend son the doll to be fair <3 Id rather have a girl and a boy doll that looked different rather than simerlar

    8. But then again this does depend on the doll~

    9. I would like to say no... but I can't. >.> Two of my boys are father and son, and while they are radically different in their mannerisms and style of dress, they have practically identical hair color and eye color - which my lazy, poor butt has them sharing a wig and even eyes for a while. And my other two boys both have white skin, white hair, and horns, but are utterly unrelated and not even in the same story.

      On one hand, I tend to like certain styles and colors for my dolls, which are often very, very similar. On the other, I don't have a lot of money to get the wigs and even eyes I'd like to really bring out the individual characteristics of my dolls.

      Before I start babbling again, I don't mind if my dolls look similar - provided of course, that I have a good reason for it (like lack of money, or family ties).

    10. I think that might be a smart way to go about it! If you like the similar colors and palettes then you should use them! Each doll has a different "personality" but that does not mean that they couldn't be "siblings"

    11. i try not to have them look too similar, but i think i like the same kind of clothing/dressing, and similar type of faceups...

      so i guess i don't mind? i want to have a pair of miho twins some day though, and they're supposed to be similar, but without the SAME faceups etc. i want them to still be individual enough to be different.

    12. Actually, I'm one of those weird people who have a thing for one particular sculpt - I have two SD Shiwoos (though one's dreaming), a LittleFée Shiwoo and a PukiFée Shiwoo, and weirdly enough they all look alike ;) Then again, they're meant to be elements of the same character so I guess that makes sense!

      But to answer the question, I have a weirdly almost-even split between blonde dolls and black-haired dolls, and a LOT of them have blue eyes. I don't really mind, though I occasionally think I should - their clothes and the sculpt and the faceup tend to make them individual enough, and if you like something then I guess I have to ask why strive to make them all different for the sake of it if you're going to be happier just going with a similar look.

    13. Firstly, interesting question!

      I think my dolls are all going to look similar, whether I intend it to be like that, or not. And I think a lot of that is probably subconscious, so if I ever get more than one doll, if someone were to look at them, they'd probably see a lot of similarities between them, looks-wise.

    14. I don't mind similarities in one area, like hair color, eye color, general facial structure, or fashion sense, but I'd rather not have two dolls that look similar enough to be related when they're not supposed to be.

    15. I want my doll to be different, for me I think it's no need to get a similar doll

    16. unless they're twins or sisters
      though none of my dolls look alike
      save those who are related
      (eg Prudence and Piper-they're twins but not identical, and still look quite different)
      Ivy and Lily look sort of similar, but Lily, in the story I wrote about these, styles her hair to be like her sister's, and they are the same size, due to Lily's stunted growth, so frequently share clothes

    17. I'm actually looking for a sculpt that resembles Soom Namu so I can find a brother for him (of any size).

    18. I'm worried that I might end up doing this. I want my dolls to have separate personalities, but I tend to pick out clothing and wigs based on what I like and what I would wear. I'm afraid it might clash with their personalities and make them all seem too similar. I'm going to do my best to avoid this when I buy my second doll.

      If I buy one that looks very similar to one of my others, I'd probably make them related in some way.

    19. I just sort of realized something about this myself @3@;;
      Aesthetics-wise, I do find myself making that no two dolls have similar hair/eyes/face ups.
      The face ups aren't an issues, but eyes... well, I actually had the same problem- two dolls I want/have seem to fit the best with gold eyes, but I can't bring myself to accepting that fact xD;

      Otherwise I noticed I'm extremely partial to molds with pouty(ish) lips and pecan eyes... a prime example of this would DMK's Vian.
      Or Fairyland's Miyu... or Volks' Sora... eue;;

    20. If they were related, then yes. Having two or more dolls with the same face ups, wig or eyes otherwise would irk me a bit.
