Do You Need Variety?

Jan 6, 2010

    1. Variety for me. I DO like things that match. Having dolls wearing all black wigs wouldn't bother me at all--in fact, I think it could look great. But I still like to mix it up over time because there are just such wonderful colors and outfits out there. (I'm weird because the outfits and colors totally trump 'character' for my dolls!)

    2. My first two dolls came with black wigs and I loved them on them. my third I knew I wanted in white when I was planning him. So to add a little variety to the group I was determined to put my fourth doll in blonde. And I did, but then I got another girl and I wanted her blonde and pink and then my roommate got this two tone blonde wig she wasn't real fond of and looked too cute on my black haired boy so...not I'm ending up with a lot of two toned blondes. So sometimes variety can end up being not as various as planned.

    3. I am another who likes variety in their collection - at this point, no two dolls of mine have the same hair colour, although that's purely coincidental, I swear... (they're based off of pre-designed characters, and I never change their hair/eyes once I've found the combo that reflects them best.) I find that distinct characters call for distinct looks, and I do try my best to give each of my boys their own unique "flavor" as it were. :sweat However, I have started to notice a definite trend in the sculps within my collection - long faces and larger noses to be exact (witness: Migidoll Ryu and F31...) So I don't know...
...Then again, my favorite part of this hobby is that you *could* have five of one sculpt and, with various customizations, still have five completely unique dolls and a large amount variety if you wanted to. :)

    4. I really really want variety but I think I'm one of the people in danger of having all black wigs. Luckily my dad bought a surprise wig for me for Christmas and it's a sandy blonde colour but I prefer it to my others so hopefully I'll be able to keep some of my dolls away from black hair!

    5. A lot of mine have predetermined hair color, because they were characters before dolls, so picking out things like wigs, eyes, and clothing styles is a bit different for me. I do have a variety of people, but there are actually quite a few with black hair (7 have black wigs, and of those seven 5 also have blue eyes). Some of them are related and it's a family trait, and a few are from other storylines. It doesn't bother me, though. I do have a couple that I got that were not pre-existing characters that I intended to do more wig swapping with, but I find that I don't tend to change their wigs very often--they sort of settle into default looks.

    6. Well my dolls are mostly going to be related, so there may be a lot of similar hair colours. At the moment I only have one wig, and though it suits my doll (it's long, straight and black) I want her to be a brunette. And her sister will be a brunette too.

But I am also attracted to brightly coloured things so there may be some less realisitc hair in my future, lol.

    7. it kinda bothers me a little. i try to have them with different eye and wig color BUT Aiden have white hair and i plan to have twins and they'll have white hair as well!! (their caracter was made before doll unlike aiden)
so i wanna buy them next, but i dont want all my dolls to have the same hair so im thinking about buying some other before... :sweat

    8. I like variety, but it's more in the dolls' overall look than in hair or eye colour. The two predominant wig colours of the house are black and white, and then there's the rest of them. Most of the dolls with black hair are related however, so I feel it has to be that way. But they all have their different look and different personality, so it doesn't feel like everything is the same.

    9. The bold pretty much describes me to a tee, even taking it further that dolls can't have the same skin tone or body, so most of my projected dolls are from a variety of companies.

I mostly find myself prefering curly hair in wig styles, and browns. Somehow, I don't have a doll with curly, brown hair (O_o), but that's what I uually look at first.

    10. I prefer variety, although each doll do have their own hair colours and must have only that hair colour (although when not in character they do occasionally get to try other colours ^__^).

For now I have a lot of white/silver/grey wigs, mostly because the dolls that wear them are related (they also have the same eye colour).

    11. Not much variety here. I love brown wigs most of all. Soft browns, grey browns, chocolate browns. I love mixing these colours with grey/silver eyes and pale blue eyes. The only colourful wig I use is a curly red one. Buy wigs of other colours but they get ignored in the end.

    12. Personally I prefer variety, even though my dolls are quite different sculpt-to-sculpt. My fist boy I got a gray-white fur wig for him because of his character. The second boy I wanted a cream colored wig (same style) but when I went to order him they were sold out. So I grabbed the first one that caught my attention, which turned out to be perfect for his character, but it was a silver-white color. At this point I realized I didn't want all of dolls to have white/gray hair, because that would bug me and people would think they were all related. Lucky for me, though, the next two boys I found were well suited to brown wigs. So my third boy has this rich dark brown furwig, and my latest boy has a nice brown-red wig, and I love them both for the characters!

    13. I like to try and give some variety to the hair and eye colours that my dolls have, but I will have a couple of white/light silver haired ones. I don't think the dolls themselves will look anything like each other though, their outfits, faces and eye colours are all different. And as someone else mentioned you should do what you want, they are your dolls after all :)
