Do you prefer Child or Adult Dolls? Why?

Feb 9, 2007

    1. I actually prefer more adult dolls but have a few kids YOSd's I lke to look at the little ones but have no wish to own any. I don't like some which seem to have baby faces on adult bodies. I like my dolls to be beautiful sophisticated women best, but have to admit teenagers and youngsters are easier to dress.

    2. I like al sizes, I jump from doll size to doll size depending on the mood. I like to sew for the msd to yosd so maybe I favor them a bit more ;)

    3. I definitely prefer more adult dolls with realistic sculpts. SD is been my favorite size since I got my first one.
Now I just can't bond with msds, yosds anymore. I have a few msds that I love but never play with them and will end up selling them at some point. My characters are adults, thats it!

    4. Hm...I guess adult dolls, but only because most dolls I like look like teenagers/in their early twenties. I would have liked to have an army of yo-sds, but there are not that many sculpts I like, although the size is my favourite ^ ^;

    5. I only have adult dolls right now (I have a DC Ada on the way though) and I love them, but looking at some child sculpts they look so adorable, and their outfits are a lot cuter! Maybe one day I'll introduce a child doll into my family, but it has to be the perfect sculpt for me.

    6. I think the preference changes! I used to love young-boy-MSD-sized dolls when I were at a younger age. Then I were attracted by those cute mini-sized dolls cuz they are so light and small that you can bring them anywhere you want. (And I got my little girl at this period. ;P) After that I turn my interest in to those 60cm teenage dolls cuz they are much more like friends of mine. Mature dolls are beautifully sculpted but they just can't catch my eye. I appreciate them but I won't think of getting them. Maybe it's not the proper time. lol

    7. I prefer adult looking dolls over childlike. Its more of a weight and size preference. There easier for me to handle and I feel more comfortable with them.

    8. I much prefer adult and teen dolls! I think it's more easy to create how do they look or an interesting story for their life. I like to look at the photos of child looking dolls, but never want to have one. Maybe the reason is that I don't know how to play with them..XD

    9. Depends on the sculpt. I am very particular and I don't like a lot of sculpts but the ones I do like, I love. Volks Miruku, Lorina... They are considered childish but I also love Supia Rosy and Haeun and they are considered adult... I like the less mature body of an SD10 and SD13 as compared to the mature body of Supia dolls. I wish they made more SD+ girls with a small bust and smaller hips.

    10. Asian countries prefer younger looking but westerners prefer older dolls than Asians. I personlly prefer younger boys. But I do plan on getting one adult man.

    11. I much prefer the adults; there's so much more you can do with their backgrounds/plot lines.

    12. The child dolls are cute but I definitely prefer the more mature looking adult dolls like those made by Iplehouse. Most of my dolls otherwise are fashion oriented, not cartoon related. I don't watch the anime stuff so that look isn't something I can relate to as much.

    13. Absolutely young adult\teenage dolls. I do have some YoSDs that are children, (though NOT the offspring of my larger dolls), but they act a little more... mature? than they look, since none of them are human children and I guess technically they ARE older than they look...

But anyway, the majority of my dolls are SDs. I think I like them more because I like characters that are old enough to act the way I'd like them to? Also I find the human figure, both male and female, to be very beautiful, especially when exaggerated (i.e. more voluptuous women, more muscular guys.) But it's a lot harder to exaggerate the body of a child, and I really just like having dolls I feel like I could be friends with in real life, y'know? (Wait then why are most of my dolls older than me...)

    14. I like both, really. My characters are tied up in a fairytale-like story, and the protagonists are both children, so it is only natural that I have two tinies. My main interest, however, is with the SD females (it is not that I do not like male dolls - I do, but I have no space nor ideas for them), who can look both as fully grown-up up ladies or young adults, depending on the sculpt and face-up. It is probably due to there being more creative ideas that I can try on them, and this size is overall much easier for me to handle.

    15. I have all.children,teenager,adult. They have their own charming point.

    16. I like dolls that are kind of in between, such as minifee.
I personally wouldnt want to spend 200$ on a child like doll :P

    17. I prefer teenage and adult dolls. I tend to lean towards liking dolls that model the types of people I find attractive in real life.

    18. I like them all, but currently I've only got child dolls at home. I'm about to get a mature mini though, just have to decide on who......

Ideally I'd like to have a combination in my collection, ranging from about 24 years old to about 9 months old

    19. I prefer adult dolls because I prefer adult characters. I do have a few tiny dolls, but even they aren't really 'children' as far as their characters go (3 are humanoid demons/monsters, while two are automatons/constructs). I eventually plan to get some children dolls/characters, but only because I have an adult character who interacts with children a lot.

    20. i do own some YoSD size dolls; they are cute and i appreciate them very much but i definitely prefer my dolls who look over the age of ~13 at minimum. mainly because i can relate emotionally to being a teenager & young adult better.... so i just find dolls that look 'older' (even if they're still really young from a societal POV) to hold more merit. it's harder for me to get as attached to childish dolls in the same way as dolls who look like they are approaching or passing into adulthood.

i see a lot of people who treat their child-like dolls as if they were real children; they get some kind of maternal or paternal feeling of happiness from owning these dolls and role playing like they have a daughter or son, even if only lightly, but i don't feel the same way. it could be because of my age (i'm not old enough for the biological clock to kick in yet) or maybe i just lack a nurturing instinct. my childhood was pretty weird and troubling so it's probably just a psychological bias that reflects back at me, in other words it reminds me of that on a subconscious level when i look at child-like dolls.

if i'm using my child dolls to relate a story, it's more likely to have a troubling or unsettling theme than an innocent or fun one since from my own experience of being a child that is what i am most familiar with. my MDD Konomi Yuzuhara is an exception to this (she's not YoSD size but she is very clearly a child doll) because she always has a really happy, positive expression on her face all the time, so just being around her and looking at her makes me smile and think good thoughts, which in turn lead to more light hearted pictures and stories.

even bright and interesting children are incomplete adults in my eyes, so they are harder to flesh out an in-depth persona for. i feel like a person usually doesn't really begin to define themselves or try to express deeper thoughts until they are a few years into their double digits, so it's the point where children begin to transition into becoming adults that is just the starting point of interest for me. how they develop from that point on is even more engaging.

i guess TL;DR i like my child dolls more for their cute & aesthetic value than for the emotional worth i get out of slightly older looking dolls.
