Do you prefer Child or Adult Dolls? Why?

Feb 9, 2007

    1. My favorites are definitely the young adult ones. You know, the ones that are about 20? I think they're easier to dress and are generally more photogenic. :)

    2. Child... Or more accurately, those that are around young teens age. That way can dress up in school uniform and a whole host of other outfits. And cuter.

    3. The final form of my collection ended up being four MSD children and one SD in the older teenage range. So kids all around. XD; I guess adult dolls just don't work out for me. Though most of my characters are adults, I think I just don't like big dolls very much. If I could replicate the ones I have perfectly all one size down (4 YOSD, 1 MSD) it'd probably be even better.

But, I'm happy with what I've got. :)

    4. Definitely adult for me. I do have a few tiny children or adolescent dolls. Those aren't part of my regular storyline though & don't have well developed characters while my adults do. I guess since I came from the fashion doll genre I'm just more comfortable with mature dolls. But since most of my dolls are fantasy based, I can dress them any way I want. I also prefer to photograph the mature dolls. While I did love the very realistic dolls I also have some more stylized ones & I'm finding that I prefer those more & more.

    5. Child-like dolls! I'm all for Lati Yellows and Whites and have bonded more with them than my SDs or MSDs, all who have youthful faces. I think the tiny Latis are wonderful to travel with as they're so teeny and not as much of a hassle and they embody the age that I embrace the most as I adore my childhood best. :)

    6. Almost entirely adults so far, there's one teenager amongst the crew - but there are a couple of child characters that need shelling, I just haven't found the right sculpts for them yet

    7. I have a strong dislike for children in general so definitely adult dolls. All my boys are my age or older between 26 and 30 (the vampire's about 273). They're all also SD or bigger. There's just so much more I can do with them clothing and story wise. I tend to write more adult stories in general.

    8. I prefer the look of the older dolls--like the teenager to adult ones. I don't know what it is, but the childlike proportions of the littler dolls just freaks me out a little. The fat little fingers and chubby faces just don't do it for me.

    9. While I like small sizes, I'm not a fan of the chubby look the young dolls are often given. I really like thin bodies, which are generally found on teen or adult dolls. I'm even pretty picky with them though; to me the aesthetic of an artistic body is most important, and if child dolls had the lanky look I like, I would probably appreciate them much more. Not to say I think they are 'bad', it's just not my preference. Though usually if they have clothing on, they are cute, pretty, whatever, and the body I can't really see doesn't bother me.

    10. I prefer bjd-child, because they are funny and cute :) bjd-adults are too real, and I am afraid them a little and don't know what to do with them )))

    11. I prefer adult dolls, child dolls are cute but I'm just not interested in owning them.

    12. I really prefer older dolls, from around age 16 on up. I think it's because I like to dress my dolls in different trends and styles that I love, but am completely incapable of pulling off. XD

    13. I like the young adults one the best...the more "mature" ones are nice too. I don't mind the younger teenage ones, but anything younger than that kinda wig me out. Just a personal preference, nothing against people with child dolls.

    14. Definitely the sculpts that resemble kids. I have a handful of pukifees and a lati yellow. I think it's because my own kids are growing up before my eyes...and I miss their pudgy, cute baby/toddler faces.

    15. I prefer dolls who look like children or teenagers.Their face are so adorable and they are not too tall. I love anime and manga and those kind of dolls fit more to do cosplay. Most adult dolls seem to be near 60cm-70cm which is too big for my taste and they take too much space.

    16. I've got two pukifee who are 7 and 8, a pukipuki who is a faerie who acts like she's 4 or 5, and then my MSD and two SD dolls are in their 20s. My MSD is 21, one of the SDs is 22, and the other I've been toying with making older, around 28-29 as her face sculpt is very mature, and I've been having a hard time with her character being in her early/mid 20s.

However I do want to get a YoSD to be around 10/11, and then a YoSD to be a fantasy character who acts around 10/11, so I don't think I've got a really set age group haha! I don't think I could ever have any dolls younger than what I've got though, I think 4-5 is the youngest I'd go (I babysit a friend's 2 and 3 year olds, and yeah...nope, don't want dolls that age!)

    17. I love dolls which are adults considering their story, but look like children. Or young dolls, age from 15 to 20. Dunno why. Maybe because I like when dolls look like dolls indeed, and the youngest ones on adult bodies suit for this role more than others ;)

    18. personally i like older dolls because when i make a backstory i want it to relate to me, its coming from my experience. but then again sometimes i feel tempted to get a childish cute doll because more positive feels are associated with them and others who are not into the doll hobby are more fond of them, so i think if i had one of these i wouldn't be as embarrassed to show it off in public the way people parade around babies and small pups. people would just be like AWWW LOOK HOW CUTE THAT DOLL IS! rather than "what's that woman doing with that grown man doll...creepy much :| " oh well maybe in a few years my taste will change

    19. I like small dolls because they're cute as when they have lots of tiny bjd altogether they seems more merrier to take a picture XD

    20. I prefer child-looking dolls over mature adult dolls
I guess I like the cuteness or simplicity more, not entirely sure why
