Do you prefer Child or Adult Dolls? Why?

Feb 9, 2007

    1. I prefer young adult-looking dolls. Sometimes teenage too. I'm attracted to more mature looking sculpts...I think it is because I like relating to them. I like older characters of all genres in general as well.

    2. My preference goes to young dolls although an uncertain age, not childish and not really teen either: rather a kind of timeless youth ^ ^...

    3. I'm more drawn to older looking dolls, which is lucky since most of my characters are on the more grown up side. I just feel that they're a bit more versatile, and it's easier to create more believable interaction between them since there's so much variety and complexity in "grown up" relationships.

I do like how easy it is to do really cutesy things (and some surprising things, like evil children) with the younger looking dolls.

    4. I like both... In fact, one of the charms of these dolls is, for me, that they exist in several shapes and sizes. My first doll was the child version of my story's main character. Most of the important characters are adults, but I couldn't resist shelling their children as well... I find it enriching for the group :). It also brings variety.

    5. I prefer adult dolls. I owned the original Barbie and Ken dolls when they first came out--way back in ancient history. They were beautifully made and high quality with detailed clothes and accessories, nothing like they've devolved to be. An adult fashion doll wasn't really a new concept, but it was unusual for that time. I'd dress them up and put them on their stands and wish I could capture the moment but all we had was an old black and white camera that had no close-up capability, at least not that I was aware of.

So now I can dress up these beautiful adult dolls in all sorts of finery and take lovely, colorful photos. Fantasy fulfilled.

Plus there always seems to be a bit of sexiness in doll clothes, poses and face-ups, and that makes me uneasy in the child-like dolls.

    6. I most certainly prefer adult looking dolls. Which creates a kind of a problem for me, because full SD dolls I find way to big for my taste. I have a strong preference for MSD, but it's not easy to find ones that look mature enough in that size. :(
i think childlike dolls just remind me too much of dolls I used to play with in my childhood. I prefer dolls that have realistic looks to them and that look more like of work of art rather than toys.

    7. I personally like child dolls :) I think they are so sweet. My lati yellow, white and pukifee are my faves. I am sure just a child at heart! :)

    8. I don't like the older looking dolls. They creep me out! Lol! Though I can't say that I won't get one at some point. ;)

    9. Good question. I'm not really sure, but I think I'll say it's kind of a half and half thing. I love child dolls simply because I love children and they are like my babies. I'm like that mom that never lets her kids out looking bad and is always snapping pictures of them haha.
But then... I love the more adult characters because you can delve more into their personalities and who they are. A 21 year has had a lot more happen to them than a 6 year old, ya know. Also, for me it's more fun to find cute clothing for SD sized dolls than YoSD, maybe because it's easier to dress them in the style that I tend to dress myself which how I usually try to style my dolls. It makes them more relatable to me, I suppose.

    10. I most definitely prefer adult or young adult dolls to children dolls. I'm not one for kids in real life so I don't much see the reason for them in resin either. I would however like to get a nice look at a pukipuki in person because they are super portable and I love the idea of having several face plates for just one or two bodies. However mine wouldn't be of the three to five age rang most seem to be, he would simply be a tiny man. I also prefer male dolls over female but I suppose it really just all comes down to personal preference and mine is for adults.

    11. I prefer teenage-to-college age dolls... I think because I'm still stuck at that age in my head even though I'm supposed to be a grown up :P
Something about teenage rebellion... (Although the girl I have now is just too dang sweet... o.O; )

I don't really like child dolls much, possibly because I've met far too many annoying children in the past few years... Some of them are cute, and I think it's really adorable that people have little doll "families", but I can't really see myself doing that.

    12. I love and would have both,
I like to see the differences between them and to have a diverse family :love...!

    13. I like young adult and older dolls best. In real life I'm just... not a fan of kids haha.

But I'm at odds with myself because I really like how some of the tiny and YoSDs look and I want one but... uhg. I don't know what to do.

    14. I prefer older teens or young adults, it's optimal to me.
But I can say that all the ages and sizes can have great potential to develop and create a wonderful character of a doll ^__^

    15. I very much lean towards the Teens/Young Adult to Adults. I haven't really found a child doll yet that has a face I have to have.

Plus I grew up in a house full of my mom's old dolls and some of those are down right terrifying, so that might also be why I prefer dolls that look older then a child. Haha.

    16. From all of the photos I've seen of sculps, I'd say I prefer teen dolls over the younger dolls. I suppose, it's just that I don't want something smaller to handle since I easily misplace things (even things that are extremely important to me!), so it would be a hassle to deal with. There's also the fact that many of the characters I plan to use as persona for my dear as in their older teens, so. . .

    17. I prefer adults, since I have this weird "I want to see this doll/person when he/she grows up" thing with child dolls! Tho' I find it rather fun to get a kid doll and to imagine buying an older sculpt with same features to make the character get older.

    18. Adult dolls have my preference, because I like my dolls to be 'fixed in time' and it's hard to do this with children. Also, I prefer the more mature body types (one of the reasons why I don't have many MSD's is because they are too childlike for my tastes, even the minifees).

It's what attracted my in BJD's in the first place, the fact that they looked so mature. Up until I saw my first BJD, the only dolls I knew were baby dolls you could find in a toy store and Barbies, who I've never considered 'dolls' for some reason. So when I was my friend's CP Chiwoo for the first time, I was amazed to see a big doll that wasn't a child OR a girl. That first impression always stayed with me.

    19. I like ALL dolls but definitely go for more younger looking dolls as I love anything cute. I definitely see the appeal of the older looking dolls though especially for their clothing options. Some of the outfits I've seen are amazing.

    20. I like dolls of all ages, but for myself I like child dolls. They're just so cute and sweet, and you can dress them in adorable outfits. I would love a young adult doll someday too though!
