Do you prefer Child or Adult Dolls? Why?

Feb 9, 2007

    1. My SDs & slim minis are all adults. I came from the fashion doll genre so I like the adult dolls more. In my tinies I have some in their young teens & one definite child, Lucy from Not Doll Lab. She goes perfectly with my Aren as a little sister.

In general I'm not attracted to children so don't want dolls like them. Besides, the wardrobe possibilities are better with the mature dolls. I'd had some Puki Pukis & some Brownies but I sold all of them. They were adorable but I couldn't bond with them.

    2. The majority of my dolls are adult. This varies through the sizes (tiny to large SD), too. I do have some child dolls, but their characters are children so that's why they are what they are. Even given that, I currently have a teen version of one and I have sculpts chosen on my Maybe-Some-Day-List for 2 others that are currently represented as children (I would still keep the child versions of the characters even if I broke down and bought the adult versions).

My main reasoning for the adult styled dolls is simply that all my dolls are characters from my novels and generally speaking, what I write rarely involves children and would be wildly inappropriate for children to read. The child characters I have generally come from one-shot stories that develop a life of their own *sigh* and become so persistent that they NEED to be shelled.

    3. Most of my dolls are small, my biggest being Fairyland Littlefee, of which I have three. I have a full set of Fairyland Realpukis, which are nine different sculpts. I also have many duplicate Realpukis, in all 16 dolls. I make each one look different, but all childlike.
As a small child I love the fantasy of fairies, so these dolls continue my childhood love. I also have other small dolls, but still very small, my smallest being a Felix Brownie small Comfort baby.[h=1][/h]

    4. Most of my characters are in their late teens/early adult hood, so this will reflect in the dolls that I get.

I love how cute the child dolls are, I just have no use for them, as of yet, in my stories.

    5. I think i prefer Adult dolls (except Sakura Kinomoto, i have yet to make a custom of her!)
I love the curves of mature BJD bodies thus i think it can be reflected nicely in a photograph with all sexy outfits that are available out there.

    6. When I had my dolls, I really preferred dolls that could be considered young adult to adult in age and appearance. When I create characters, I create them with complicated backgrounds and place them in adult situations that require mental maturity to be dealt with. I want this to show physically too! I do consider any size doll as long as they can appear more mature in age. I do have to say there are some seriously cute small dolls that I would consider in the future, when I have need for them.

    7. I like both, but I've noticed that adult (or teenage) dolls better suit my taste. It's easy for me to find an adult doll that I would like to buy, but I've spent a long time looking for a small girl that could become a character of my story. Finding her wasn't easy and I wasn't really sure I won't be disappointed after her arrival. Luckily I'm still satisfied with my choice and I'm really happy that I've bought her.

    8. Child, all the way from itty bitty pukifees to yosd/short msd, and teen (msd) but that's only out of what I have so far. I do have plans for 60 cm+ adult dolls, but I dunno when I'd get round to it xD

    9. I think I prefer dolls with childlike faces and more adult bodies. Like I love fairyland and companies like it because the faces are so adorable! It's not like I'm not interested in buying older looking dolls but I always find myself looking at the same baby-faced sculpts.

    10. I always go for an older doll. When I was little, I always wanted to look like one of the beautiful, doll-like celebrities and models and cartoon characters. I never enjoyed being childlike and as I'm in my (very) late teens now, I am very happy with how I look as an "adult." :)
So in all honesty, it had never occurred to me to be interested in childlike dolls.
I'm also vision impaired, so the tinies are too small. YoSD is ok, but there's just something about a beautiful, mature body sculpt that draws me in every time.

    11. I prefer child to teenager range. I'm barley feel like an adult myself so I could not bond to well to an older doll as well as one my age or younger.

    12. I used to say I would never buy a child-like doll, but my tastes have been gradually changing. I still much prefer older dolls, as I like to characterize dolls, and prefer older characters for a variety of reasons. However, I am beginning to see the attractiveness of having a child doll -- they are just so cute! However, I mainly love posing them with adult dolls, giving a parent and child, or older sibling - younger sibling kind of relationship to them. It makes for more interesting pictures and also storylines, in my opinion.

    13. For a boy I much prefer an adult doll, I like the way the body and the face looks. I'm not too keen on the way MSD sized boys look, they look a little too much like girls.
For a girl I love MSD size, they don't look too young and they are so easy to make them look cute.
Child sizes are super cute too, and I think they fit a kawaii style so well.

    14. I like child looking dolls. Cute and little bit chubby dolls really attract me.
Also for me, dolls are kind of substitutes of pet or my own child.
I want my dolls to look young so that I can easily imagine their characters such as purity, naivety and dearness…

    15. I think I prefer the teen to young adult ages. I don't see myself having a small child for a doll, or a full grown adult either. I'd like my dolls to look mature but still have a youthful appearance to them.

    16. I definitely prefer adult dolls. The more mature look ( and large size ) is probably what drew me to BJDs in the first place. But I don't have problems with teenagers or children dolls. They are each fun in their own way. I even plan to get a 2-3 MSD later.
