Do you prefer Child or Adult Dolls? Why?

Feb 9, 2007

    1. I usually prefer older looking dolls, but it always depends on the character. I've got characters from 3 to 53 years old so... It's so difficult to say a specific answer. Although there's something I can say, most of them are 20 or more, so I could say I prefer more adult dolls.

    2. I guess I kind of prefer between sixteen and early twenties... almost adults or young adults. Maybe because that's my age range? I don't know... I like to think of my MSDs as young adults even though they are technically young children (at least, a lot of them seem to be). I like MSDs because they look youthful and not too grown up, like some SDs seem to be.

    3. I prefer adult features, but smaller sizes... two things which are often in conflict ^^;

    4. Raven. Just starting out with BJD's so not very experienced and really green with most of the BJD companies. But so far I am drawn to a young appearance with my dolls. Child like.

    5. Some of the little ones look really cute but my style is more for older models, so yeah. Maybe one day I'll get to buying a child doll I really like, but for the time being I'm focusing on more adult looking features.

    6. I can't really say 'adult' or 'child' dolls because that all depends on how you view the term. Are you talking about the facial features of the mold or the actual size of the doll (MSD, SD, ect.) because people sometimes consider MSD's the 'child' size and SD's the 'adult' dolls. I'm going in terms of face/body style because all my dolls are adult characters.

I like mature, adult-like faces on my MSD's. I don't like the big-eyed, round-faced child look of some dolls, it just seems too.... baby doll like for me, and honestly, except for the more mature-faced BJD's, that look freaks me out. I've always been afraid of dolls with that look. I don't like kids, or baby dolls because they freak me out. I go for adult-styled dolls, which is a relief to find in the hobby because soooo many dolls have that round-faced style which gives me the chills.

    7. I love all dolls. I started in this hobby with "children" and realized that I liked the mature sculpts too. Now the different sizes (and expressions) make it feel like an extended family. In a family there are people of all ages and looks; that's the sort of "gang" I want all my dolls to be. For me it's not about only liking this or that size but rather what doll makes me fall in love.

    8. I prefer matured dolls, mainly because you can sew any style of clothes for them. Of course, theoretically you could make any clothes for kid dolls, too, but I don't think it's right to dress kids in adult clothes. I really don't support all these provocative costumes that are made for kiddies :|

    9. When I entered in to the "hobby" I vowed never to own a tiny doll (any doll under 15") because who in their right mind would pay all that money for a doll that couldn't even pose good?!!

I LOVE my 60-70cm dolls with all my heart but, honestly, I got tired of all the sex and discrimination that goes on in the larger and msd-sized threads. If you're doll doesn't have some lavish, top quality faceup then it gets ignored. If it isn't making some sexual reference - it's ignored. If you're not good enough with a camera - it's ignored. The large and msd-sized threads often have an in-group that has tactics for running out anyone they don't want "in." To my experience anyway.
So, I found myself getting into smaller dolls and I have to say - it's a much different community!
The community itself shouldn't be what drives the hobbyist; I'm just one of those people looking for friendliness and like-minded fellow. :doh How pathetic, right?

I've always preferred mature dolls over "baby" dolls. The tiny dolls are more like little kid dolls than baby dolls, they're more fun!

Additionally, I can take out 6 tinies and they don't grow as heavy as 1 big doll. And my tinies, being "kids," can wear just about anything! I find that my larger dolls require top quality attire, street clothes or dress down days are okay, but they much prefer evening gowns and the like.

    10. I prefer teens/young adults. Mostly for the fact that the more mature looking sculpts are SD and having owned two, they just don't work for me. So I'm sticking to MSD sized now and I don't really see myself wanting a MSD sized or otherwise younger doll than that.

    11. Child. Where to draw the line on really "adult" -- I like tweener and teenage dolls.
I don't have as much interest in reality adults. The fashion dolls haven't ignited any interest in me, yet. One never knows. I have learned that. My tastes can change in ways that surprise me.

However, I would like to create some tasteful nude art, with the amazing beauty of the human body as it is idealistically portrayed in most dolls, not the pornish stuff. And I realize where that line might be is a debate. The Chateau dolls and others with less perfect physical form I LOVE. I see them more as a child catergory, if teen-age is included.

    12. I have to say I prefer a certain level of visual maturity. Doll age ranges around 16 to 22. I think my own visual age effects my preference a bit since I can relate to it. Youthful, but not too young. I like the concept of taking a youthful late teen-ish doll and making her character age a bit older. Blame my love for fantasy (elves and vampires) on that one. ^^
Child and younger looks tend to look a bit weird to me usually, and most baby/young child casts sort of creep me out. I can't really explain why. The older more mature dolls, ones who are over 25-27 tend to just look strange in my opinion. That opinion may change if I ever had a character that suited an older doll and found a cast I really liked for it.

    13. I love adult looking dolls. Childlike dolls do not really appeal to me. I look at my dolls as idealized versions of real people who have very interesting character lives so maybe that is why I tend to gravitate toward adult dolls. I also nove the way the more mature dolls can be posed and the clothes which are made for them. i would like one juvenile doll though but that would be some time down the road when I have obtained all my grail dolls!

    14. I really like the size of MSD dolls, but I prefer a more grown-up look to them. I prefer the doll to be able to be mid to late teens at the youngest. I just feel weird dressing up and dressing down kid dolls, and for some reason a more mature body is just appealing. I also like a wide variety of different styles and fashions and with a young-adult I can dress her to look older to even dress her to look a little younger, so that variety is also appealing.

    15. Personally, I prefer the more child-like dolls (yo-sds etc). I like their faces a lot more than I do adult dolls, I'm just not a fan of a lot of the "sad" looks most of the adults that I find seem to have. I'm not saying that the adults aren't BEAUTIFUL, but I prefer cute and adorableness!

Now, if I could find an adult with a sweet face I liked, I may change my tune, but for now I'll stick with the youngin's.

I will say that I like MOST of the adult clothes more than the children's.

    16. I prefer teen to adult dolls. They just seem more versatile to me with clothing style and hair and whatnot. They seem more enjoyable to customize and photograph. I also just like the sculpts more :3

    17. Adult dolls for me. More fun for me. I can use them in a majority of ways and can tackle problems with them that I can't do with child dolls.

    18. I like little kids and adults, but nothing in between. Tweens and teenagers are the most irritating groups of people known to me. =A= I suppose it explains why I can't abide msds...

    19. Hmm, I'm not too crazy myself about the adult-adult dolls, but I do love Teenage dolls and Child dolls. For the most part, I find adult dolls to be too stoic, or their features to be quite strange (At least the ones that I've seen). I love the teenage dolls for their adult-like manner, but child-like charm X3 Can't ever go wrong with round cheeks and pink, porcelain-doll shaped lips! I'm also a big fun of frilly lolita dresses and the like and child dolls just look that much better in that kind of a style ^^

    20. My preference is adult dolls -- more fun to sew for!
