Do you prefer closed mouth or opened mouth?

i loooove slightly parted lips showing a little bit of teeth. but not too open that they look like mouth breathers.

 

I prefer closed mouth sculpts with a neutral expression (not smiling or frowning). The only non-neutral faced doll I like is IOS Valentine but he's also closed mouth. I have nothing against open mouth dolls or dolls with expressions but I feel like that would limit the amount of photo scenarios I can do (nothing serious and intense for a smiling doll, etc.)

 

This topic has given me chance to consider what I actually want from which ever doll I eventually go for. I now know I need a ‘serious ‘ or ‘thoughtful ‘ expression. Don’t think I mind so much whether closed or open mouth as long as the expression is right.

 

I prefer closed-mouth, 'cause I'm not very steady-handed with my faceups and can't do the tiny details like teeth and stuff. Doing my Minifee Tika's faceup is gonna be difficult.

 

I've had dolls with fixed expressions before (closed eyes, open mouths, etc) and after a time I've always sold them. I think its because to me they always have the same look no matter which way the light hits them. I love posing my dolls around and seeing how their expression changes just with posing.

 

I generally prefer closed lips, or just slightly parted. I don't generally dig the visible teeth look (though it depends on the face up, I suppose. I've seen some artists handle it beautifully).

 

I prefer both! Open mouth for boy and closed mouth for girl. And I love the tongue to be shown a little bit. Cute and sexy

 

Closed mouth mostly. However seeing some teeth is super cute. There are exceptions but I gravitate towards closed more.

 

I guess I tend to lean more towards closed mouths because I personally find them to be more versatile for my photography... But, still, I do find slightly opened mouths adorable- especially if they show a few teeth!

 

Agreed it can depends on the mould, still I prefer closed mouth.

 

I just really do not like the teeth. So closed mouth for me. There is this one doll I love except for his teeth and I'm thinking about how to go about filling them in without looking ridiculous.

 

I absolutely adore slightly opened mouths so you can see the teeth, but if the mouth gap gets too wide, I feel like they're constantly drawing breath or is about to say something, and instead it stresses me out xD

 

I like both open and closed mouth as long as it looks nice and natural to me. But if I have to do the faceup myself, I prefer closed mouth much more since it's so hard to draw in that small little gap

 

Closed mouth for sure, I don't know why but I really don't like opened mouth looks on dolls. Whenever I see dolls with open mouth, I cringe a little on the inside. Maybe with vampire fangs I can stand it but with just a little bit of teeth showing always make me feel weird about why their lips are open like that.

 

I prefer closed mouths. I’m not a huge fan of teeth showing, unless it’s slight or they’re vampire fangs.

I can't imagine somebody having the mouth always open, not even a doll.

 

I said this a few months ago, but i've changed my mind and now more than half my collection has teeth showing lol

 

I like the slightly open mouth. Open mouth can also be cutie. I really like Switch dolls with their teeth and tongues.

Not to be weird, but I really like teeth and tongues aesthetically and my art has open mouths all over it, so it was inevitable. DC Evangeline is my favorite sculpt and I'm getting a Switch Dojin in part because man.... such a cool mouth.... and removable teeth parts. Nice.

Exception being smiling dolls. I don't know what it is, I think for me it just never registers as a genuine smile? Something about how the rest of the face doesn't seem to change enough. Gives me mild uncanny valley.

Some people have mentioned issues with wiping faceups on sculpted in open mouths, and yes, it is a nightmare. I accepted long ago that there will always be something left behind between lips on most sculpts, though. It's not that much worse on my Evangeline vs every other doll I have.

 

I prefer closed mouth or an ever so slight mouth part with just a tiny bit of teeth showing. I don’t know I just feel like the doll looks better that way
