They wear underwear or tights, and undershirts when they can. But some clothes are too tight to get over that layer of underclothes. Underclothes are helpful agianst stains, or if the shirt is a bit see-thru. And if they have a skirt on I feel like they are naked without panties. Gotta cover up.
Just the practical kind, stain-resistant bodysuits and socks, unless the clothing is really white/translucent. I like the bodysuits from Tata's Paradise that are made from a beige stocking-ish material, they're a little spendy but kind of worth it and they're slick so they make it easier to get clothes on. I have a few pairs of doll underwear like boxer shorts and even a set of briefs with a functional y-front and they're cute, but it's usually too much padding and too much trouble trying to get everything situated so there aren't weird lumps. I can see why a doll in a skirt would need them, though. It's too much work and too "obvious" I guess to do the junk inspection on a doll in pants as opposed to just casually flipping the skirt up or turning the doll over.
In my experience, the first thing anyone looking at a small doll in a dress does is lift the skirt. Don't ask me why. But based on that, all of my girls get panties, bloomers or leggings with a skirt.
I want to get undies or tights on my ladies with skirts, but so far a few still need them. It just seems like they should have them.
I love this discussion! and @LadyMadrigal, you are so right!! My mother-inlaw was in town last weekend, and when I brought her my dolls that was the first things she did! And then of course she wouldn't stop talking about how they needed underpants, and "oh my gosh - they have boy/girl parts." The urge to rip them away from her was strong.
I mainly do it because i feel bad if my doll is just sitting naked while I make cloths. Sometimes I have to take them though. because if I don't then it might make it twice as difficult to get an outfit on that doesnt allow for much space.
Despite the difficulties I have fitting underwear under some of their clothes, I like my dolls to have it if possible. It just feels more complete that way, you know? I use leggings as underwear quite often, though (which helps avoid staining too). ^^ Plus I feel embarrassed for them if they're naked, lol.
depends... most of my boys go commando, one of my girls wears bloomers (not panties but technically underwear) ... if my girls are in skirts I'll put bloomers or panties on her, pants on the other hand, they can go command... I guess I use the same logic as for humans for my dollies.
Haha this thread cracks me up but it is oh so true! I really need to make my gal some panties because all she has to wear is a dress and some thigh high socks. It is bad enough with her "kicking" habit since she is new but with a short dress it is kinda scandalous! Must make panties!
I make them wear underwear entirely for aesthetic reasons. ...And on the off chance anyone feels the need to check their anatomy, I don't have to deal with their questions 'cause panties are in the way. I don't think the average person will have the nerve to undress a doll's panties for the sake of curiosity.
I've only got one doll who doesn't have many clothes, but as underwear and so far proven easier to make than full pants, he pretty much lives in light blue boxer shorts right now haha!
Sometimes underwear looks awkward or bulky under clothes so my doll never wears it. I wanted to, at first, since it was more realistic, but it just doesn't look as good.
Most of my dolls do wear underwear, unless they are wearing a fullset that didn't come with any. It's for aesthetic reasons like @Temishi said
In general, most of my dolls go commando under their clothes; there's not enough room on MSDs and smaller for the bulk of undergarments and the clothing over them. However, when my girls are in short skirts (shorter than knee length), I will generally give them panties, so they can be "decent" while seated. So I suppose I'd say my reasons are aesthetic: they don't look good in general, but they prevent indecent exposure when the skirts are short.
Mine do, just for realism. My boys wear boxers or briefs, and my girls wear panties and a bra (sometimes. My YoSD girl only wears panties, and one of my SD girls only wears a bra on occasion.) It just feels uncomfortable to me to not put underwear on them. XD I haven't had any major staining that didn't come off with a good scrubbing, so I don't worry much about that. Weirdly enough, the worst staining I have ever had on a doll came from a pair of black Luts underwear!
Some have them and some don't. I don't like visible underwear lines so it all depends on the costume. My boys and girls in jeans (that aren't skin tight) have them. I have a boy with white trousers and they just don't work for that so he's commando right now. Anyone in a dress/skirt has them for modesty purposes.
Only my MSD girl has underwear, mostly because her nipples are so pointy that you can see them with the shirt on...
Mine wear undies when they're wearing a skirt, in case of wardrobe malfunctions that lead to exposed bottoms. When they're wearing trousers, generally they don't. Dolls don't have sensitive bits that need protecting from their garments, so I don't bother with a layer underneath their clothes (and they accompanying extra bulk and panty lines) if it definitely isn't going to show.
Since the source of the fabric is unknown most of the time, I try to use underwear on any doll wearing dark clothes next to their body, but as Tonboko says, sometimes there isn't room, so in that case, I do not keep the outfit on for long periods of time. I guess for me, the dolls are a large investment; I do want to have fun, but I don't want to see them stained.
I like the idea of my dolls wearing underwear but it always gets caught in their joints, so none of them do.
