Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Do You ReDress Often...or Leave Them Alone?

Nov 26, 2009

    1. So the questions are: How long do YOU usually keep your dolls in a specific character or outfit?
That depends. Sometimes I just want them to look different, sometimes the season changes and I dress them properly. But since I didn't touch my dolls for some time now they stayed in those clothes for some month.
Do you dress in a character or favorite outfit and leave them alone...next to forever? or..
      See first question.
Some dolls just have one outfit, so I never change those. Some vary depending on season or daytime.
Do you change outfits OFTEN, but at the same time retaining the character? (keeping within the 'persona' you have chosen for your doll when selecting new outfits)
They always stay in character, the clothes just express their character more. Just like clothing usually does.
Or does it even matter ~ and you just change characters/clothing randomly to suit your mood?
      No.

    2. How long do YOU usually keep your dolls in a specific character or outfit?
Maybe two-three weeks at the most.

Do you dress in a character or favorite outfit and leave them alone...next to forever? or...
When I first started, I planned to have a lot of practical clothes and change my dolls' outfits a lot. That is the way I am with my own clothing too and I'd rather have a lot of cheaper clothing rather than a few expensive outfits. However, I have found out that changing clothes isn't always a breeze since their face-ups can be wiped off and fingers break, etc. Lately, I've been gearing more toward the expensive and fancy outfits that my doll will stay in for a longer period of time.
Do you change outfits OFTEN, but at the same time retaining the character? (keeping within the 'persona' you have chosen for your doll when selecting new outfits)
I don't think that any of the clothing I choose is unique enough to "express" a character.

    3. So the questions are: How long do YOU usually keep your dolls in a specific character or outfit?
Well always the same character but I do change their clothing every few days or weeks I just like seeing them in new outfits. Showing to their personalities.
Do you dress in a character or favorite outfit and leave them alone...next to forever? or..
Well I have a few characters that have like one outfit and stay in that oufit but no mostly see first question
Do you change outfits OFTEN, but at the same time retaining the character? (keeping within the 'persona' you have chosen for your doll when selecting new outfits)
Yes I keep them with the same persona that was orignally created unless they are dressing for something specfic and even then I try to pick things that work for that character.

    4. I think I'd go crazy if I never changed their outfits.
I absolutely love creating new looks and sewing new things, so I can't help myself.

    5. I am CONSTANTLY making clothes for Layla, so she usually wears the most recent thing I've made her. I'll change her clothes multiple times a week, just for fun. I'll also change her clothing due to events (cons, meetups, family events) and due to the seasons. To me, clothing is one of the best parts of dolls.

    6. The clothes I have for my dolls pretty much stay the same on them. I rarely change them, not because I can't afford clothing but because I see no point to do it. I have set clothes for my guys and I see no reason changing them often. I commission artwork of my characters all the time so that is where there clothes do change.

    7. How long do YOU usually keep your dolls in a specific character or outfit?
Well right now I don't have any characters that are really different in the way they dress so I sometimes leave them in the same outfit for a couple weeks...I don't have to many outfits right now but...
Certain outfits I have fit my Souldoll muuuuuch better than my Mnf so my MNF doesn't get her outfits changed as much.

    8. I usually leave them alone for a week or two and change the clothes and wig around. They look totally different after I give them a new outfit..

    9. I have discovered, over time, that some of my dolls have 'created' their own look ~ and I am not eager to change. However, like many of you ~ some are begging for redressing all the time! I appreciate all your input to my question!
Please feel free to add your own experience/opinion here!

    10. So the questions are: How long do YOU usually keep your dolls in a specific character or outfit?
At least 1 month, many dolls wear their outfit longer, some forever.

Do you dress in a character or favorite outfit and leave them alone...next to forever? or..
Some of my characters wear their outfit since I got them and dressed them. 4 of them are dolls based on existing characters, some others wear the outfits forever because I just love them so much.

Do you change outfits OFTEN, but at the same time retaining the character? (keeping within the 'persona' you have chosen for your doll when selecting new outfits)
If I change the outfit, the character's personality will still reamin the same. For some dolls I choose outfits which always fit their personality (for example: no businessman outfit for my Samurai boy)

    11. How long do YOU usually keep your dolls in a specific character or outfit?
Totally depends. Sometimes I'll dress one and just fall in love with how they look and they'll wear it for a month, sometimes (especially with my smaller dolls) I'll change them once a week or more.

Do you dress in a character or favorite outfit and leave them alone...next to forever?
Usually not. I have a few expensive outfits and they might hang out in Dollheart for longer than something I made myself but it's not always the case.

Do you change outfits OFTEN, but at the same time retaining the character? (keeping within the 'persona' you have chosen for your doll when selecting new outfits)

My dolls have personalities that are present no matter what they are wearing so I don't put someone in a frilly dress and think of her as a more girly character than she was in something plainer, they are themselves no matter the outfit. But I don't have deeply developed stories for most of my dolls, at least not yet.

Or does it even matter ~ and you just change characters/clothing randomly to suit your mood?

I usually change the big girls at the same time because they're more difficult to dress and I might as well take care of them both when I have the clothes box out. I might change them for a photoshoot, or because the season has changed and their last look doesn't feel right, or because we're going to a meet and I want to have them in something fresh, etc.

    12. I rarely change the outfits of my dolls because they belong to their characters. I only change their outfit if I find one that fits their character even better than the one they already have.

    13. on average i change my dolls' outfits every 2-4 weeks. i own 10 dolls but only 3 of those are ABJDs (6 others are Dollfie Dreams and the other 1 is an offtopic doll, VMF50). so i obviously take some time to do this when i do it - but it's enjoyable and fun creating that 'new outfit' or 'new look' like people have said.

also, if i buy new doll clothes and the box or package arrives, that will motivate me to change their clothes as just like IRL fashion, when you get new clothes you immediately want to wear all of them!

    14. I like to "play" with my dolls. I don't do that every day, but I do love to dress and change hair each time I do. :)

    15. I like to change my boy's outfits pretty frequently. I am always fiddling with his clothes.
His hair never changes and his eyes are rarely changed.

    16. I change them all the time. I never take a picture of them in the exact same outfit twice.
Both of my dolls have several wigs with different hairstyles (same color, same company) so they stay "in character" but still change their styles. And although they have "standard outfits" which I return to often (for my Kid Delf it's a very ethereal all-white Dollmore dress and no shoes, for my Leeke boy it's a leather jacket, acid-wash jeans and tennis shoes) I always change something: the eyes, the hair, glasses, necklaces or shoes.

I treat my dolls as little people and just the same, it wouldn't be nice if others would see them wearing the exact same outfit every day.

    17. My dolls wore the same outfits for two and a half years. They're still in the same wigs/eyes as that long ago, but I've changed their clothes twice in the past year. I still think about playing dressup with them, but honestly I've just got too much else to do.

    18. I change the outfit whenever I had a chance to play with my doll. (Usually 1-2 months)
My doll has specific character, but I just bought any outfit that I think it'll suit her.
So it just randomly things. ^^"

    19. I just do it if I feel like it.

    20. Time to time i get a outfit which they stay in for awhile.
But i usually redress my dolls every time i play with them.
      Or photograph them.
