Do You ReDress Often...or Leave Them Alone?

Nov 26, 2009

    1. I probably should change Vince more often... and work on expanding his wardrobe! He does get the most clothing changes of my current crew, though, even if it isn't as much or as often as some. (he's my first and kind of the 'cuddliest', so he gets some of the most handling)

      Pete doesn't get changed often because he doesn't have a very large wardrobe, and he's white, but one of his shirts is super-dark, so he really only pops it on for pictures and then back to his light-coloured jammies.

      And Billy hasn't been changed out of the cute costume my sister made him for my birthday-- almost a year now! He just makes the cutest dinosaur (or dragon, when I pop his wings on)... Plus, the big costume keeps the doll inside clean if I set him on my bed to keep me company when I'm under the weather and my sheets aren't fresh-out-of-the-dryer. (I try not to freak out unreasonably over cleanliness, but I do really prefer to handle them when I'm clean, and the same goes for where I set them down, if they're not covered)

    2. A lot of my guys tend to stay in the same clothes for long periods of time. ^^;

      Mikael's still in that shoddy pants I quickly stitched together the day he arrived, along with that one shirt I bought him. Caleb's still in the quick-work t-shirt I made for him shortly after his arrival, and pants I stitched together clumsily before the day I decided to take him out for the first time. XD;

      Mikael's sort of in the middle of ironing out what his chosen "look" is, because I'm really not sure where I'm going with him aesthetically. He does have an ego and I'm pretty sure he's annoyed with me over not having nicer clothing.

      Caleb has a "style", I just haven't really gone beyond what little he has at the moment, as far as giving him new changeups in his outfit. His pants do need a bit of fixing up, though.

      The Captain's got a style, too. A pretty distinct look and theme and specific character background, so any outfitting that he'll get will be along the specific lines of "requires Steampunk to proceed".

      And Wraith, as a character, is going to cost me a decent amount of money, I wager. Mostly because his character concept involves a lot of black leather/pleather, for this almost "taken straight from a comic" look. And that's really not all that cheap, even in outfits with it that are premade.

      ....And the newest one, I swear is going to wind up being a Cloud cosplay until I decide what else, if anything, I wind up doing with him. But that's a story for another time. XD;

    3. Some of my dolls change clothes a lot, some stay in the same outfit forever. It depends on their personality and whether they are a character doll with a specific image.

    4. All my dolls have their own specific style and color theme. Ora is my ivory gypsy, Tragedy is my little goth loli, Lilith is dark elegance, Stella is my flower child, etc etc. I tend to change their clothes when I get new clothes, so sometimes they will be in the same thing for MONTHS, or I'll change them up several times a week. Ora gets changed the most because she's the oldest and I have the most clothes for her. As long as the clothes match who they are, I find enjoyment in re-dressing them.

      It's sort of the reason I left pullips, it was too much of a drag to re-dress them in their tiny tiny stuff so they just sat and got dusty. I didnt like that :doh

    5. When I started out and only had a few dolls I bought lots of inexpensive clothes and changed them frequently. Now, between have many dolls and buying them fewer higher quality clothes, they tend to stay in the same thing for weeks.

    6. I really re-dress my doll as often as possible. She doesn't wear the same outfit for any longer than a day. I change her clothes almost as much as mine. She has day clothes and pjs.

    7. I don't re-dress my dolls nearly as often as I'd like but if there was one of my dolls that would be the most frequently re-dressed it would be my BlueFairy Tiny Fairy May girl that my at-the-time-of-her-purchase 6 year old daughter insisted be named after her. My daughter is now 8 and loves to have a say in how "Kaja" is dressed...so naturally my May girl has the biggest wardrobe of any of my dolls. However, now as I have a growing number of MSD girls, the benefit is that they can all share from time to time =^-^=

    8. How long do YOU usually keep your dolls in a specific character or outfit?
      It depends on how much time I have to play with them, but I tend to keep them in the same outfit until I grow bored of it, which can be as long as months at times. I had my doll in the same pair of pants before for a year straight though I changed his top, haha.

      Do you dress in a character or favorite outfit and leave them alone...next to forever? or..
      Do you change outfits OFTEN, but at the same time retaining the character? (keeping within the 'persona' you have chosen for your doll when selecting new outfits)

      Both. I find that for the dolls that share bodies, they tend to end up wearing the same things (i.e. whatever is on the body) cos I'm too lazy to change them so often. So actually the outfits are just...sort of in character.

      Or does it even matter ~ and you just change characters/clothing randomly to suit your mood?
      I rarely do this, cos I can't stand having my dolls in clothing that don't fit their personality, though once in a long long while, I'll put them in something just for the heck of it (my own entertainment ;D)

    9. The wigs and eyes I definitely don't change on my boy, I feel like that just sets him in his character but I like the idea of redressing him. He's currently in casual but I'd love to get him something new and fun that I feel like will show up another side of personality :3

    10. I'm pretty sporadic. I'll dress them, leave them for a while, then feel guilty about leaving them like that and go on a redressing spree for a week or two.

    11. I love getting and making new clothes for my dolls, and like changing their clothes depending on my mood (and theirs). There are some outfits that I love, but that they can't stay in long due to staining issues. The default outfit my Yuu-2 came in is a prime example. The netting on the pants rubs against his knees and joints, leaving HORRIBLE black marks that take a magic eraser to get off. I've had to start putting him in a pair of nude tights before putting the pants on him, to keep from killing his body blushing.

    12. At the moment I am having some time off work but am actually feeling well enough to create new clothes, so my wee doll gets changed every other day so that I can take pics of the new outfit :) Can't wait to get another one same size as her then they can share the clothes

    13. I'm a lot like HollowDestruction- for the most part my dolls stay dressed in the same stuff, but then I'll get a wild hair to make them some new stuff and change up their outfits for at least a few days.

    14. How long do YOU usually keep your dolls in a specific character or outfit?
      It varies depending on how busy I am with other things and how much I like the outfit they're wearing for the most part. The last few months I've been super busy and just recently was able to find time to ease back into the hobby, so my boys have been in the outfits they're currently wearing for about 5 months. I'm not planning on changing Isaac's outfit anytime soon either simply because I love the outfit he's wearing so much! xD

      Do you dress in a character or favorite outfit and leave them alone...next to forever? or..
      Nope! Each of my dolls have specific characters in my mind, they aren't simply dolls that will change wigs/eyes/styles to suit MY mood. I do leave them in certain outfits for extended periods of time for various reasons (as mentioned above) but I do like to change it up when I am able. :3

      Do you change outfits OFTEN, but at the same time retaining the character? (keeping within the 'persona' you have chosen for your doll when selecting new outfits)
      Yep! Eventually I'd like each of my dolls to have their own mini wardrobe of clothes that fit their styles perfectly so I can change their outfits maybe three or so times a month and have new outfits to last like half a year. (:

    15. i always change my dolls looks, prob just because i love change!^^ My characters themselves don't change just their styles! :D My dolls wardrobe always changes~~

    16. My pukifee gets changed everyday, sometimes just the clothes but often the wig as well. I would guess as I get more dolls that they may become more static but with only one, changing it constantly to be different is fun.

    17. hmmmm for me, I want Emilia to have brown hair. but sometimes I will walk pass them and pull the black wig and put it on her head xD

      I dont have that much for Felix (poor guy!)

      it just depends how much I know the clothes will help change the way they look (all I have are casual clothes) nothing fancy.
      Me being lazy will allow the only change of wigs... soon I will start sewing (maybe.. soon.. maybe not! ) eh

      I will say leave them alone xD

    18. Wiishu is still new and ridiculously special. First thing I did when I got him home (he came to me in Dallas and it was a week before he had any options other than the shorts and crop-shirt his Momma-D gave him) was make him some boots to (blush) keep his resined tootsies warm. I then began swiping the clothes from the various dolls I'd gotten to turn in to character dolls (from my books) and never gotten around to. He looked so much cuter in them than they did. Then he needed a nightshirt, so I made him a Halloween nightshirt...and some Halloween shorts. A pillow. A blanket. Now...Sheesh...he changes each morning into one of his "day" outfits and into the nightshirt to go to bed.

      I don't think I'd do this for other dolls, tho I have some CLines on order, and I doubt I'll keep it up forever, but it's fun that he has entered the house with so much personality.

    19. I redress them about 1 -2 times a month.

    20. It all depends on the character , some of my dolls I change outfits very often because changing outfits is one of the things I like to do with my dolls .I like having them in many styles. What can I say ,I like fashion.
