1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do You ReDress Often...or Leave Them Alone?

Nov 26, 2009

1. Yes, I change my dolls' clothing pretty often. I will even change wigs, and to a lesser extent, the eyes. I guess that it is hard for me to settle on any one look for long. Besides, that was my initial draw for getting into this hobby; the ability to change how the doll looks! It's almost like having more than one doll (at the price of an average BJD, it really helps stretch the bank account!) :)

2. My DD's have considerable wardrobe. Dunno why Them when they stain so easily. XD
the rest get a default outfit for now. But eventually, many outfits will be had for various occasions. All based on character and story.

3. My dolls represent characters in a fictional town I've created & written about. They are a group of cosplayers, who gradually get involved w/amateur theatricals. So I've got 2 types of wardrobe. Each doll has their own style & clothes (as much as I can afford/make). Then, there are the costumes for cosplay/theatrics.
As for changing, I try to change the dolls into season-appropriate clothing as much as I can, for the little group settings they live in when not doing photoshoots. Then of course there ARE the shoots, where I dress each up according to the script - some of which are for the characters every day life & some of which are cosplay.
Wigs get changed a LOT (real people hair changes a lot, remember...). Eyes, not so much. In fact, each doll has their 'own' eyes which only get changed out when required for cosplay purposes.
Right now I'm trying to get everybody in costume for Halloween, so busy busy!!!

4. I wish I could change them out more often, but I'm not talented with the needle, so I have to buy clothes for them. I hate that it is more expensive to dress them than to dress myself, so most of them have one outfit. And some of them only recently too. I always seem more motivated to spend on a new doll than on clothing. But for those that do have alternates to wear I change usually summer to winter. Only one of them has enough outfits to change more often. I rarely change eyes, usually only in the beginning when I'm trying to find the right look. But I do have a fondness for wigs, so those get changed pretty frequently, unless I hit on an aha moment, where I know this is the one and only for a particular doll. Recently I added to my collection and the new dolls represent characters from my books. So eyes and wigs will not change and once I find the perfect outfits for them, it has to be in character, which will limit how often they change. If I ever win the lottery though, all bets are off. Everyone will get massive wardrobes and frequent clothing changes! :)

5. I change their clothes kinda often, my crew are in a few pairs, usually i change their wigs or clothes in pair once a week
Eyes... i don't usually change them when i am settle in a particular pair for them
Sometimes when i get new package, i may change everybody's wigs/clothes lol

6. Sometimes I feel sorry for them for not changing their clothes that often. They have also stayed a long time at my parents house (multiple times) and the clothes were at my own place...you do the math :sweat
There have been some eye and wig changes within my crew, but I think they finally have the right looks when it comes to that. They have their own personalities and thus their own looks. This also goes for their clothes. When I change them I only pick out things that fit their personalities.

7. To be really honest my dolls like me sleep naked, when there a dolly day as my friends call it.
They all come out and it's usually a free for all in the wardrobe. The only thing I have for them that is all the same theme is tuxes and I'm yet to get the white one!

Generally my dolls don't have a choice, they wear what I want! But I do find they dress more formally than casual. perhaps because they have less casual clothes? Who knows, but what I say goes! :mwahaha

8. When I have spare time I like to change my dolls outfits to their nightdresses and so on. They have outfits for specific places :celebrateAlthough I don't change their wigs to something completely different often. It's normally something the same colour. I like to keep them in character. ><!

9. My guys almost wear the same clothes they've been wearing for the past year..haha. But I have them commissioned often and there clothes always different.

10. For me, I create my dolls' character first and that helps me with the wigs and hair (I don't change them much once I find what fits each character best - unless they are constantly changing their hair. :P) After I have the character really cemented down, they wear what suits their individual personalities. (Similar to us humans. :P)

So, with all that said some of my dolls change their clothes a lot and others don't. But it all comes down to the personality of each doll. :)

11. I don´t have a limit for changing clothes. I do it when I have time or the spirit to do it.

12. I redress now and then when I get the time and definitely if I get a new outfit.

13. My girls usually stay in the same clothes for at least a few weeks. I really don't have enough for them to change outfits often, especially since they have to share the same limited wardrobe. The eyes never change but I sometimes switch out which wig Alwyn is wearing, since she has two main wigs.

14. I change my doll's clothes when I feel like it or when I'm all eager over a new outfit I made or bought. I'm not exactly a top class seamstress but I love making him clothes nonetheless. (Now if only materials were cheaper and readily at hand at all times.)

15. For me, it really depends on the doll. My boy, Altair, he only seems to want to wear his default outfit. Nothing else looks right on him. He just doesn't do casual.

My girl Emilia, though, I have multiple outfits and wigs for her. When I change her is when I feel like it, but I always make sure that her wig and clothes (and possibly even eyes) fit her character. Make it something she would wear if this were a person with specific clothing tastes. My girl is shy and gentle, and something like a dominatrix outfit is out of the question. When I'm looking for clothes, I look with specifics in mind.

16. My dolls have a specific look in keeping with their characters, but occasionally I like to change their eyes, wig, clothes, etc for the simple pleasure of seeing them differents and really enjoy doing it.

17. quite often, not as much lately though but usually when i feel bored or a bit down often changing doll outfits cheers me up, or wigs, but i rarely change eyes, i like mix and matching clothes because i have a lot and its cool to discover new combinations that work.

18. Each of my dolls have their own personality and character special to them, I only change them if I have heads away for face-up or if I have bought a floating head and am waiting for the body.

I tend to change my dolls clothes whenever I feel like doing something with them without taking pictures of them, just want to play around with them a bit. It can be months between or only a few days, it's whenever I want to.

For new dolls, I guess I tend to try on a lot of different looks on them within the first few weeks I have them, wigs and clothes and eyes can be changed even if I already know which ones I want to use, just to see how it would look... but then I change the hair and eyes back to the right ones afterwards at least.

19. So the questions are: How long do YOU usually keep your dolls in a specific character or outfit?
I keep my doll in a specific outfit for a long time until it needs to be washed

Do you dress in a character or favorite outfit and leave them alone...next to forever? or..

I usually Leave them in a favorite outfit and leave them along until the outfit needs to be washed

Do you change outfits OFTEN, but at the same time retaining the character? (keeping within the 'persona' you have chosen for your doll when selecting new outfits)
favorite
Yes I change my doll's clothes but not that often. I still try to retain my doll's character that I have given him.

Or does it even matter ~ and you just change characters/clothing randomly to suit your mood?
I cant randomly change the clothes according to mood....that doesn't suit me or my doll

20. I change my dolls' clothes when I make something new for them... which is not very often. Sometimes, they spend months in the same outfits!
