Do you take along your dolls on holiday?

Jun 8, 2014

    1. I've taken my girl with me to an anime convention so far, and plan to take her with me to another in October which will be more of an actual 'holiday' because I'll be staying out of state with my sister xD I'm definitely looking forward to it~! (Even if I am a little nervous, I'm determined to never set her down anywhere o__o)

    2. I do, always, at least one of them. I often choose the ones easiest to travel with, or specific dolls that I want to bring to our meet ups (which creates a huge dilemma as to what I'm going to bring with me this year for the Christmas meet because I'd like to bring my centaur boy but also my two new SDs.... and I can't obviously fit them all in one carry on bag...). To clarify, we hold our meetups in Athens where my parents' home is and where I stay for vacations most of the time. When I go elsewhere -like right now that I'm on an island for work- I always get what's most convenient (in my case, an MSD and one off-topic pure neemo)...

    3. maybe, id prob feel safer taking one of my DD's, as they are standard models not like my Mia which is worth a lot more and kind of irreplaceable if she got lost, stolen or broken, plus DD's are a bit more robust and lighter, i mean the clothes, hair and boots alone on Mia are worth hundreds.

but it would be fun to take on a trip, id prob feel more comfortable to becasue i know i wouldn't meet anyone i know. and i think some other places might be a bit more accepting of a guy carting around a doll

    4. I never did so before. And every time, at the end of the trip/holiday I feel so bad for not taking one cause along the way I always see so many places I could take pics with them. So next time without a doubt I take one with me! I actually took one with me a couple of days ago on a one day trip in my backpack (stuffed with pillows ofcourse), but I wasnt able to get her out because it was raining to bad. But at least I didn't feel bad anymore for not bringing a doll.

    5. When I began, I thought I would not. But with IH's pirates, I am really longing to take some photos of them at the beach, so I guess I will have to...

    6. I wouldn't. Too much risk of damage and if I'm vacation, I wouldn't want to carry one around. Doesn't mean I wouldn't take it local for specific pictures purposes.

    7. I take them across states when I attend conventions. Does that count? Honestly I haven't been on a "relaxing" vacation in years. We go canoeing and hardcore backpacking and I don't have space for a doll.

If it were like a Disneyland vscation, I might bring a tiny doll or two if I can find a secure way to transport my pukifees, but I'm afraid I'll be too busy worrying about them to enjoy my vacation.

    8. I always bring dolls with me wherever I visit . I did a very crazy thing once .. Hauled 11 dolls from Europe to the USA and back. By plane . It was a nightmare and I swore to myself I'll never go overboard ever again xD I have lots of pictures of me& one of my bjds in various locations such as Pompeii and Notre Dame . I can't post pictures right now because I have them on my laptop and I 'm browsing with my tablet but I'll come back later and post some if you don't mind:).

    9. I've done a couple of day trips just to get pics of my OT travel doll. I haven't had much of a chance to yet with the BJDs - too hectic lately - but I'd like to. I can carry a Pukifee or two in my other doll's travel case. (I did get to a state park for photos, but not all of the doll pics came out, much to my dismay.)

    10. If it was by car and just to see family or something maybe. Otherwise, I'd be too worried about him being lost in transit or something! Plus on longer family vacations we usually spend our days doing TONS of stuff and I would get no chance to do anything with him. Conventions are a yes! Carrying a doll around is the BEST way to meet other doll owners and people who are interested in the hobby. Plus if you match, it's even better. I've seen plenty of girls in Lolita clothing carrying dolls with similar dresses. :D Maybe one day.

    11. I wanted to take my doll on vacation/work related conference; but it is next to impossible to carry the doll around when there are millions of things to do. I think it would be better to take the doll on a cruise, but I am not a cruise person.

    12. I'm at the airport right now, going on a spur of the moment trip!

I decided not to bring my kid delf girl with me. I was too worried about her getting lost or damaged. I have this horrible vision of having to check my carry-on because the plane is full, and then my luggage being lost! Or someone taking her from my hotel. Or her being damaged somehow. It goes on and on xD

But... Sitting here at the airport, I wish I had her with me

    13. No, I don't think I would unless there was a place that had a scenery that I reaaally wanted. I've learned from experience that it's not good to take expensive things with you on trips. :'(

    14. I don't go on holiday/vacations too often, but I always bring a doll or two when I do. Sometimes it's because I want to take pictures in certain places, sometimes it's just because I want to have them with me. More often than not, I'll grab an MSD and one or two YOSDs--whatever/whoever I can fit in my doll bag. I'm always a bit worried about them getting damaged or lost, but I tend to watch my valuables like a hawk, so I haven't had a problem yet.

    15. I enjoy taking my dolls places with me. My Boyfriend and I drove to Dollism in New York and I took several dolls with me. Here is my Soom Grit Aldric at Niagara Falls. It was so cool to get pictures of my dolls (mostly Aldric because he is little and fits in my camera case) in so many different states.

    16. I love bringing an off-topic doll with me anytime I can manage it! :) When I finally get my first bjd (will be a tiny), he/she will definitely come on holiday! I love taking photos with them.

    17. I have one place where my family goes camping quite a bit that I'd love to take a couple of dolls too. It's a place that's actually still close to civilization (despite being a place for camping) but there's lots of nice trails close to rivers, waterfalls and meadow-like areas that would be great for photos and I wouldn't have to hike out too far with the dolls and camera equipment. Hoping I can get some time off this summer so I can go on the trip and get the opportunity to take some decent images!

The only thing I'd be worried about is leaving them in the vehicle or tent when we're off to do something else. The campgrounds are monitored by park staff and the local police, but we've still had some things stolen over the years (mostly beer). So that's always a worry when bringing them along on a trip!

    18. Sure, I do. I took my Volks SDGrG Cristal to the south of France back in April. It was so nice taking pictures of her at the chateau we stayed at.

    19. I will be bringing mine with me on holiday for Christmas this year. I'm debating whether I should bring one or two or all three >.<

    20. I love to bring my RealPukis along with me when I travel! It's just too easy to sneak them into my luggage!
