Do you talk to your dolls.....

Oct 26, 2020

    1. My dolls are shells for my characters, so I talk to them like I would speak to the characters. It makes for a lot of interesting "conversation" because I am convinced that unexpected movements from the dolls are their characters showing through. Any "play" between me and the dolls are basically me as the writer/parent talking to my character/kids.

This means I will plead with my playboy character to "Gimme a break and let me tuck it into your pants!". I've also caught me saying to my my tomboy girl: "When did you grow boobs? When did they get that big? You can't fit in your clothes anymore!" This, on top of the usual "excuse me", "sorry", "Goodbye!", "I'm home!" that I usually say. I swear to you, it's like I expect them to answer. Then again... I wouldn't know what to do if they -do- answer. I think I'm going to ask them to write their own stories to save me a bit of time...

    2. I talk to mine, but its mostly apologizing because I don't feel I spend enough time with them, I'll noticed some dust and feel immediate guilt and apologize. Also when I am taking them outside, I don't have a proper carrier so Im afraid they feel uncomfortable.

    3. I have a habit of talking to all sorts of inanimate objects, so yea, occasionally. Not like a full on conversation tho : D Pretty much what others before me mentioned like "Sorry!" "Excuse me" etc.

    4. When I bring my tinies around with me when I go shopping I talk to them under my breath. And sometimes when I'm at home, I'll find myself talking to them while adjusting them/changing their clothes.

    5. Sometimes when I'm dressing them. I'm weird enough as a middle-aged man who loves dolls, I don't need to give people any more incentive to mock me. :P

    6. I often have the urge to grab them off their shelf and have them sit with me while I do other stuff, but I dont out of fear of someone in my house seeing and being judgmental-- even though I know my roommates wouldn't be judgmental, I suppose it's a personal issue. So, no, I don't talk to my dolls (yet).

    7. No, I don't talk to them, but I used to talk to my frog clock and plush toys. I used to also have fake conversations with people in my head. Now I just talk to my dogs.

I like to think my dolls are asleep or dead in their doll coffins (their factory boxes) until I wake them or breathe life into them one day by opening their boxes. I haven't gotten around to it unless I need to sell a doll.

I do like to imagine setting my dolls around a table and having a tea party one day if I do ever play with them instead of keeping them in their boxes because we're probably moving again.

    8. I always tell my dolls to behave themselves and clean up after themselves if they have a party when I leave for a trip. Silly, but it makes me giggle.

    9. Yes! I argue with them when I am dressing them. Let them know when they are not standing correctly or look wonky in their photos. And I also just talk to them occasionally as if they are people on occasion. Especially when I leave them alone for long periods of time or if Im stressed with work I will vent to them cause working from home means I can have them in the same room with me. :sweat

    10. kind of, mostly during taking pictures or changing clothes, sometimes i apologize if i make one doll share clothes with another or if i don't have a full outfit for them yet.

    11. I didn’t think I would before I got my first 1/4 scale doll, because I never did with the smaller scale dolls and figures I collect. But the day he arrived he just felt like he had so much personality, I wound up talking to him without even realizing it.

I mostly do it when I’m actively interacting with him. I’ll apologize for taking his wig off and promise he’ll get it back once I’ve restyled it, or if I’m holding up a WIP piece of crocheted clothing to make sure it fits I’ll ask him if he likes how it’s turning out, or if he’s refusing to hold a pose I’ll tell him to stop being difficult because the sooner I get a good photo the sooner he can be done and go back to relaxing on his chair. Realizing as I type this that I also talk the exact same way to dogs haha.

    12. I definitely do this xD

As a lot of others have mentioned, I scold them to cooperate when they’re being a pain. “Halcyon, stop it” “please cut it out” “why, what is bothering you!!!” and also find myself apologizing when I bump them or do put them “in danger” LOL

I also talk to them about my plans for them a lot, when I’m fixing their wigs or just playing with them. “You’re gonna have an awesome outfit eventually when I learn how to sew. What do you think of that? Then you’re gonna be a badass. Well even more of a badass.” Or “what do we think about this hair? I’m not sure about this wig” and things like that.

    13. I do in the way I talk to most inanimate objects... asking them to cooperate, making general comments about how pretty I might think they are, verbalizing what we're doing in that moment ("I'm going to put you over here now..."). But I don't have what could be considered conversations with them. I certainly don't expect them to talk back.

    14. Yessss, I talk to them about my day or rant about stuff I'm mad about, and inform them of future plans for them.

    15. I always talk to them when I'm dressing/posing them, but I am one who will talk to anything. I talk to our Roomba and the scanner at work, the slow coffee pot....basically anything that's getting on my nerves will get a speech from me, LOL

    16. I sass my dolls while trying to do faceups, wig, clothing, poses ect. Really any slight on their part and I’m talking to them like they’re a misbehaving pet.

    17. I talk to my dolls quite a bit. I scold them lightly when they don't cooperate during posing, I say excuse me to them when I move them to get something, I even say sorry and ask if they're okay if I bump them or if they lose balance and fall over. I didn't use to do that as much, but now since I've started using them for videos on my YouTube channel, I've started talking to them more and treating them more like living beings. I guess giving them personalities on paper and starting to show it physically is making me see them as alive. It's seems weird, but that's just my creativity melding with my kind nature, I guess.

    18. So I mentioned elsewhere that I tried the Crobidoll-supported game called Nameless - The One Thing You Must Remember. Started it as a joke after watching Asenva play it on YouTube. Y'all. This game gave me the penultimate stereotypical mother-in-law of guilt trips.
So yeah. I talk to my dolls all the time now. All the damn time. Everyone is getting washed, face-upped, and dressed as fast as I can (and when I can tear myself away from the 'puter, lol).
Just throwing it out there, if you are thinking of playing it - there are BAD (violent) endings, and the dolls that come to life have past trauma. It starts silly, but it gets dark real quick. I had to stop playing after Yeanho. That one messed with my head.

    19. I talk to my dolls when they refuse to cooperate with me or when I find them extremely cute. It's kinda the same thing I do with my cats :'D
