1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. However, it seems that doll companies have two different meanings to the word LIMITED. In one instance, it means that there is only a set amount of one doll type that will ever released. In the second instance, limited means there's not really a set amount of the type being released, there's only a set amount of time that the particular body is being released.

    2. So how does one go about finding the better quality companies, the ones that don't shirk on resin quality?

    3. Unfortunately, price is usually an indicator on this one.

Volks has some of the best resin, and some of the best lasting resin. While it will yellow - yes - it does so gracefully. If that makes sense.

Cerebus Project and Dollzone also have lovely resin that last well.

    4. What are the web addresses for both of those companies?

    5. For Volks go to either http://www.volks.co.jp/en or http://www.volksusa.com but I reccomend for all dolls/companies to lurk in the forum and don't be shy about asking lots of questions. I hear good things about a lot of companies resins. I love Volks's UV cut resin but I've been impressed by other companies as well. I'm going to be getting a doll from Custom House and I've heard they have nice resin too.

    6. There are very few things that are collectibles (and none I can think of off the top of my head) that don't age in some fashion. In fact often the aging or 'patina' increases the value of something. It is a given that resin yellows but the resultant color-change/patina can be quite nice sometimes.

I guess I'm just dense because I don't see what yellowing has to do with whether or not a sculpt should be limited.

And for the record, I have quite a few limited dolls (some of them very) but I'm enthusiastically for there being various editions (meaning different clothes, face-ups etc) of limited sculpts.

    7. UV cut resin? What is that and how is it different from the other types of resin?

    8. I don't think limited dolls should be restocked because it's limited. They wouldn't be called limited if it wasn't just that. You can always wait for a limited to go on sale in doa or ebay, etc to. :)

    9. But it's not quite that simple--it depends on what is making the doll LE. Often when companies rerelease the new run of dolls will have different outfits, wigs, and faceups--they aren't exactly the same as the first runs (a lot of LEs come as full sets so you have to take all their clothes and accessories into consideration). Maybe the doll will be released in a different skin tone or have some other minor alterations. Even if a company rereleases the same doll, depending on the how many over the two (or whatever) releases, they can still be considered LE and still be difficult to get--a rerelease doesn't necessarily mean the market will suddenly be flooded with what was once an uncommon doll.

You can always go to the secondary market, but it's often (not always--it depends on the popularity of the doll) a whole lot more affordable to get the doll from the company if possible. Popular LEs can skyrocket in price, and the availability can be catch as catch can.

    10. As a fairly new devotee, I have to say that while I think a Limited Full set (a particular set of clothes, faceup and accessories) should only be sold once, I don't think it's really fair to only release a set amount of a limited sculpt. If it's more of a "we have this limited sculpt that will be sold for two months but the amount to be sold is unlimited" that seems more fair to me, as more people can buy them and there's a greater chance of happening upon one on Ebay or somewhere else at a later date. If they release a limited sculpt that will only sell ten or fifteen or something like that, I think that's unfair. So many people seem to fall in love with dolls and not be able to get them because of things like this, and it's sort of unfair to me. As I said, Limited Full sets are another matter, because you can at least get the regular sculpt, and you can make your own attempts to duplicate the limited faceup and outfit with your own abilities, or just enjoy the sculpt without worrying about the limited clothing and faceup.

    11. It wouldn't bother me at all if Luts restock Chiwoo elves, in fact, it makes me so sad to tell someone who loves Oliver and asks me where to get the same doll, "I'm sorry, he's not sold anymore, but you can get the human version..." and the next thing I get is "but how can I mod him to have elf ears?". I don't like that. I would love all people could have any doll they want, cause I feel bad too if I want to get a limited doll and I can't.

    12. No. Then they wouldn't be limited anymore. I know that I wish I had a few limited dolls, but it's all about timing. The limited dolls are suppose to be glorious, one of a kind, amazing, special. Them being limited adds a bit of a spice to it. Most limiteds come with special items or special resin or a very unique mold which requires more effort, which is understandable to limit. (soom MD's for example)

As for limited molds that aren't so special and could compare to their unlimited molds, I find it a bit off. Its the companies choice to make their dolls limited in the end though. :/

Anyway, I don't think limited dolls should be restocked. I think the people who own limiteds would be a little cross about it, especially people that bought a limited second hand at twice the price as its original price.

    13. I'm a little torn on this topic.

I did, however, vote no, and that I do not (yet) own a limited doll.

As much as I would love for Volks to re-release Chii or Bianka or Rose or RENEE, it just wouldn't really be fair to all of the people who practically killed themselves to get these girls. I guess it'd be different if they weren't offered in a fullset like the original LEs, but...

      I don't know.

    14. I don't own a limited doll, but although I would really want one, I find really unfair the restock of some limited doll for the ones who bought this the first time, because I know what is have to buy by a limited time and it's really frustrating some times.

    15. Thinking it over today I guess they should do it after some years have passed to make sure some people won't fight for the last doll of one kind that is up for sell... :sweat

    16. I totally agree with this- there are some sculpts- the Limited DoD Delphine for example (:drool) that I really would love to see made into basic sets- but if you're going to spend the money and spring for a limited, then darn it all- your doll should be LIMITED. I'd hate to go all out and find out that I could have just bought the basic set for like $300 less (and now that's exactly what everyone else who has it did) So even though I'd love to see Delphine as a basic, I don't think it'd be quite fair to those that bought her as a limited- unless she were de-fanged, and given only normal skin tone options (aka made ordinary)
In that case I'd still get her- but cute as her mold is, it kinda defeats the point of the Limited idea.

    17. Nope, not at all. Limiteds should stay limiteds IMHO..
By re-releasing them to me, it just feels like the company's lying to the customers..:|

    18. I really want 1 or 2 limited dolls, and now they're sold out.
But I think, re-release those sold out limited dolls will make the owner of the limited dolls upset... IMO...
