1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. I definitely feel like they shouldn't be re-released, though it's hard to say such a thing because I so often fall in love with discontinued/limited model dolls. But that is part of the allure of having a limited doll as well.

I don't mind revisions of past limited dolls though...I guess it's just the idea of exactly copying a limited face that would bother me.

    2. I can see why they do limited dolls but honestly I just hate them, especially if it is one that I like and can't afford, or missed out on, etc etc. It's just frustrating because it adds a lot of pressure to me to be able to get something that I like.

I'm OK with a compromise, like a revision, but in all I dislike limited edition anything a LOT.

    3. I have to agree with cimorenegal, I can't stand limited edition dolls. Once one comes out that you'd just die to have, you have a very short window of time in which to save up for that doll if you're not in a financial situation to just go ahead and purchase it totally at random.

The feeling of disappointment you get when a limited doll fullset, head, body, etc is truly a terrible thing. :(

    4. I believe some companies keep the pictures of old limited editions up as a portfolio to their work. Also if a buyer is interested in an old limited they may be interested in a new limited that comes out from that company... I do hope I am making sense there...

    5. Good point. I think so too.
And to my mind it would be unfair to those who've bought limited versions to reissue those bjds without any alternations. Limited dolls just should stay limited to keep their value.

    6. Hate is a strong word! With some limiteds there is a reprieve - I got my SDC Kurt direct from Volks almost 3 years after he went on sale. He was never insanely popular, so he was still up for sale on the After Event page! I know this is an extreme example, but I was very upset to find out I was 3 years too late for Kurt...and so happy to discover that I could still get him perfect and new from Volks! If it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone. If you can't purchase a limited right then and there, it's always worth saving up and seeing if you can buy the limited second hand somewhere down the line.

I don't think limiteds should be re-released, unless there is a disclaimer from the company at the time of purchase that they may re-release the doll some time in the future, as Fairyland did with their gift Dark Elf Soo MNF head (not technically a limited...but you know what I mean, people could only get the original gift MNF DES head for a limited time.) If the company give the impression that the limited is strictly a one-time offer, I think it is bad taste to re-release the same exact doll...or even the exact doll and a few small changes. It devalues the original release and makes a mockery of the people who took the plunge to buy the limited originally.

    7. Basically, as much as it would be convenient for some to be able to get their dream doll easily from the company, rereleasing a limited is just not fair to those who originally purchased. The belief is that the doll really *is* limited, and the secondary market also reflects this (I waited ages to get my tan white lati for a much higher price than she originally sold). So no, I would hate for companies to rerelease limited dolls.

    8. Limited should mean limited so there shouldn't be re-releases of such a doll. I own a few limiteds but bought them simply because they appealed to me, not because they were limiteds per sea. The main reason I think that dolls shouldn't be reissued is because it's a form of lying. If you declare a doll limited then you have the obligation to follow thru with that statement.

    9. Well, I think my sig would point out my wish. At the same time, the point of a limited doll is for it to be..well...limited and "rare". I personally think what would be nice to release limiteds with similar body types or heads to the old limteds, but a different character. So same body or head type, just a little different. This would still keep the poeple owning the original limiteds happy as well as allowing those that missed out the first time a little lee way.

    10. Limited editions should stay limited, but in the case I've come across with Elfdolls, they put a new style BJD out as limited with different skin shade, clothing and all the extras with a cost that most would find difficult to purchase. After about 6 months the doll comes out on the public market with a different skin type, face-up with no extras at a better price. Think I'll wait till the "latter doll comes out" at a better price. But one day I will purchase that limited BJD!

    11. Limited editions should be restocked. But only twice. the first restock is to make people jump on it again. and maybe a special 10 year anniversay restock would be nice. I'm saying this because there is a limited doll from volks that i want now, released back in 2007 when i wasn't into dollfies. so boohoo for me ;_;

    12. I don't think limited dolls should be restocked because, as stated, it defeats the whole purpose. I also don't think it's fair to people who took the time and money necessary to aquire such dolls. Personally, I'm in the process of saving for my first/dream doll (Volks Suigintou) and her limited status has nothing to do with me liking her. However, I know I would feel bad if upon getting they rereleased her because it's like "All the sacrifices I made to get this doll and then you go and make her again?" That's just my opinion :)

    13. As it's probably already been said before, I think that limiteds should not be restocked unless the company CLEARLY stated somewhere on the sales page that it would be or there was a possibility of re-stocking. It would be even better if the different companies would say somewhere what 'limited' means to them; for some it's the sculpt itself, and with some others it's just the full-set and they may release a standard edition later; numbers don't hurt either, there's a big difference between 10 and 100 or more.

I also dislike when a limited edition's store price is lowered (cough, lu-wen) because then I'm kind of like 'Well, if I had waited I'd have xxx money to spend on other things'.

All of my current dolls (including one of my incoming ones) are limited editions, but I buy them because I like them. I buy them before standard editions on my wish-list simply because they'll be harder to find once they're sold out, while the standard editions will be around for a while.

And for people that 'hate' limited editions, that seems a little silly, in my opinion. There's always second-hand if you really want the doll, in some ways it proves you really do love that sculpt (or outfit or whatever) if you're willing to wait for one to show up or pay a little extra...plus you could just find a similar sculpt, it's not like there aren't tons of options.

    14. I kinda feel on both sides of this. On one hand I don't think they should be restocked. I love the fact most of my boys are rare, it kinda makes them special. Plus there won't be a million and one pictures of the same mold. I've always liked having the odd doll at meets.

But at the same time there are dolls that I think Omg please re-release! >< Some of the second hand prices are retarded! Like $500 for a pair of legs... I can't justify that >< I die a little inside ):

It's odd that I kinda want re-relases but at the same time hope it never happens.

    15. While I do think that it's a right pain if I see a doll that is limited but sold out I just wanna :...(. However, if they are limited then they are limited. If they were restocked by the company then they wouldn't be the rare gems that we seek out now, would they?

    16. I don't own any limited dolls (or any dolls yet for that matter) but I still don't think that they should be restocked or remade later. The whole point of it being limited is that it will be offered only once in that PARTICULAR way/outfit/faceup/whatever. After that, there will never be more, which makes it more special when you get it.

I like to see it when they produce limiteds and then say that they will be making only... fifty dolls, or will only be producing them for say.... three months. Then you know what ammount of time you have to get it. Sometimes they are gorgeous dolls, like the DZ clockwork face up on that particular doll (I for get the name ATM, but I'm sure people know who I mean). It's lovely and I'd like it, but its far too expensive for me at the moment, and by the time I can afford it, well, it will be gone probably. ^-^

But no, limited means just that. Limited. One time only and after that, very sorry but we no longer produce that doll/have that mold because we broke it just so we CAN'T make any more.

    17. I agree with KarieChaos on that. Limited dolls are not limited if restocked and if you want one you can or buy one directly or buy one secondhanded. Which isn't going to be much of a problem assuming by all those limiteds currently on the Marketplace. And if you really want it, you won't be shy for paying something more. But restocking would make limiteds useless. The whole point and meaning of limited is that they won't be for sale forever.

    18. As a person who has purchased many limited issues, I will say that I am unhappy when a limited is re-released. Those of us who purchase the limited issues aren't doing so to have the doll before everybody else but, rather, to have something beautiful that isn't available to the rest of the world.

When limited June was reissued as an open edition with nearly the same makeup, etc. by Elfdoll, it damaged my desire to own their dolls. I did not feel that the items that made June limited to begin with were worth the hundreds of dollars more that I had to pay for her.

While I understand and sympathize with those who want to have the limited dolls, releasing them in larger numbers and/or re-releasing them defeats the point of a limited doll. Limiting the number of an edition that is coming out makes us stop and think, consider why we want a doll in the first place. And those who bring a limited doll home should be comfortable in the idea that they are paying for what they thought they were getting, i.e., a scarce and beautiful new resin doll/child/object of art.

    19. Usually I'd say no. I'd say that a limited is a limited and would ruin the allure that the other people have in buying a limited in the first place. It is nice having a limited edition version. For example Delf Art. I'd be a little upset if I bought one for that much money just for them to re-release it again.

But on this occasion... If the Lu-Wen Delf sells out before I can get my hands on one I will certainly be crying "Rerelease himm!"

    20. No, I do not think limited dolls should be released more than once. As much as I'd love some of them (Soom's monthly dolls and DOD's Delphine -drools-), I think 'limited' really should mean that there is a limited quantity, and that's all. A once in a lifetime chance to get one. They go to the people that will chance getting a doll without owner pictures, or were just lucky to be there are the time they were released.

When I voted a while back, I put 'No, and I do not own a limited doll', because I didn't own one... I guess I technically do now- because event heads ARE limited... my thoughts still haven't changed, though. Limited is limited. If they're released multiple times, then they aren't 'limited'.
