1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. Im with those people voting no to rereleasing limiteds. i dont buy my dolls just because they are limited or not, not that its anyones buisness but my own, but i believe that for a company to simply rerelease a doll they labeled as "limited edition" is bad buisness and downright dishonest. sure, there are sculpts you love. i missed out on a sard just like 90% of the population here on doa, but if i really want him then i will save up and get him. thats just how things are. I could however understand only releasing the dolls in different versions, like say the soom mds get released as humans. however, the other things that people have mentioned like limited outfits or complete dolls still seems unfair to me. the entire point of these dolls is to customize them, where is the fun in a doll where youre afraid to change his apperance because youll reduce his value from 1500 to 600?

    2. I agree, I would save up for the very saught after sard, :sweat But not everyone who bought him is selling him, because he's limited to whomever bought him that month :) Im not saying Soom -should- release their monthly dolls again, because more then likely they won't and come up with new things next year, (if they continue)
But Soom is the only company with the monthly idea. Other companies shouldn't make rereleases. But should they give up to 2 months in advance of showing the doll before selling?Or would that not be good marketing?

    3. I very much want an SD13 Irvin, SD16 Amelia and a SD17 Alain one day, not to mention some Yo-SDs and an SDC Renee. My long-term plan is to save up and get each one eventually. Part of the appeal of this hobby for me is hunting down the dolls I really want, dolls that really inspire me and tick all my creative boxes. Some of those are retired limiteds. I don't want Volks to release them just to suit me, I'll hunt them down myself.

I actually think Soom should let people know the schedule of monthly dolls ahead of time. I didn't like Euclase, Vesuvia, Heliot or Amber, but I loved Glot and Glati. I wanted to buy a doll to mark my December birthday and Amber was my starsign's doll and I didn't like her. Because I still wanted to mark my birthday with a doll, I bought a MiniFee Rheia. Had I known that Soom were going to release Glot and Glati, I would have saved my money and waited for them to be released and bought them both fullset, instead of just Glot with only a few of her accessories and no blushing or face-up. I would have been able to wait to purchase my Rheia another time because Rheias aren't limited edition, but the Soom dolls are.

It would be good business practice to let people prioritise which Soom limiteds to buy, rather than buying a doll on the spur of the moment and be left paying a layaway for a doll you end up having to sell because you don't like it enough. A lot of people on long layaways for Soom MDs get very fed up with waiting and this transfers to their anticipation for the doll. If they had time to plan and save up for the MD in advance, Soom wouldn't have as many production problems as they're having either. Buyers wouldn't have to resort to layaway and Soom could begin production almost immediately, bringing down the waiting times.

I'm really pleased I bought my Rheia, and I would have bought her anyway, but I'd have liked the fore-warning to get both Glot and Glati while they were still available direct from Soom, particularly as some illegal recasters are planning to copy Glot and Glati and sell them as originals. I wouldn't want to trust the aftermarket for these little demons.

    4. No. ... It kind of fights the purpose of them being limited, doesnt it.:sweat

    5. I do agree it would be nice to have more of a heads-up on some of these limiteds. The above situation has happened to me several times... I would have had the money to buy Glot outright if I hadn't JUST joined a split for another doll right before the teaser pics were released. I was able to put her on layaway, but only because I'd been able to sell some other doll items to cover her first payment.

Iplehouse has at the very least given us a short description and schedule for their Noctarcana Circus dolls, for which I'm very grateful. Now I know that the dolls I'm likely to be most interested in (Magician set) will be around June, so I have time to save up just in case.

At least Iplehouse and Soom both have layaway plans, for those who fall in love with limiteds but don't have the immediate funds. There are some other companies who have released limiteds I adore, but have no layaway plan.

I think a little bit more warning about limiteds, even just a statement like "We plan to release special monthly dolls in Teenie Gem size in the zodiac theme" would have given a lot of us the heads-up to save just in case. I think it would increase sales too, because I've seen several people in the Glot/Glati discussion thread who are hoping to catch the dolls on the secondhand market due to a lack of immediate doll funds. If those people had been given a couple of weeks or a month to save, maybe they could have bought one from the company.

And since that would cut down on the number of people missing out on the monthly dolls, I think it might help cut down the desire for re-releases a bit too.

    6. I don't think any doll company is obligated to rearrange their production schedules & change their marketing techniques just to cater to anyone's personal doll-collecting plans. If I have just bought a doll, and then a company immediately releases a limited that I want but can't get, it's certainly not their fault that my timing was off. Doll companies are not here at our beck-and-call. They're releasing dolls as they see fit, and releasing advance information about them as they see fit, and we are not entitled to any of it.

    7. Dont re-release the set but re-release the mold. I think the price should be decent as to not upset those who do possess the limited sets of the doll.
But who knows, I'm sure companies wouldn't want to upset their previous customers like that so i wouldn't worry.
But they are limited for a reason, best keep it that way.

    8. Completely agreed and i couldn't have put it better myself if i tried.

I've been caught out plenty of times by the same company. Everytime i've just placed an order from DOD within the next week they start an event or release a new doll. I own 3 limited dolls myself (Bambicrony Elf Shy, Dream of Doll Delphine & Fairyland Puki Loreley) and i personally don't mind releases as long as there is SOMETHING different about the doll. Maybe it won't be avaliable in a certain skin colour, or it won't come with the same clothes and such. But the purpose of limiteds is to BE limited, meaning only a certain number of them will ever exist.

Personally i think if you missed out on a limited mold, if you desperatly want it you will be willing to pay extra on the market for it.

    9. Yes, it is bad luck and I get caught out by companies all the time...but advance warning would be quite nice and even help some companies win sales. I don't think it's a company's fault if I miss out on a limited and I don't expect any 'advance warning' to happen any time soon, but you can't stop a girl from wishing.

    10. I'm sorry if my previous post gave the impression that I felt "entitled" to the doll companies giving an advance warning for limiteds. That's not really what I meant. It's not their fault if I miss out on a limited, and I'm not blaming the companies. But I can't help but be a little bummed out and/or frustrated about it. Yeah, sometimes that's the way the cookie crumbles, and I get over it. But I just can't help that wishful thinking sometimes.

But if they did give advance warning, I think they would sell more of those limited dolls, and isn't that just good for business?

There's a difference between "entitlement" and "wouldn't it be nice if..."

    11. Even though I have now changed from 'having' two limiteds (well, on their way) as opposed to not having any from when I answered this poll, my answer is still the same. I think they should be restocked sometime. Just not in the same set.

So while I wouldn't want them to release another grey skinned hawk-legged egyptian themed Euclase, it would be cool if they released a normal skin / white skin Euclase with a different set, gimick or even just human legs. Stuff like that. That way people who loved the mold could get it in a different form, and it wouldn't affect the value of the original batch any.

    12. by restocked do you mean like soom with their MD or by a limited number?
if their is a time frame in which you can order a doll then yes because otherwise it kind of defeats the purpose of the time frame. while with limited numbers than no because then the doll wouldn't be limited.

    13. I answered once on this thread saying that I would be sad if a version of a limited doll I owned was re-released, but I find that I was sorely misjudging my feelings on the issue. I believe that molds (not clothing/etc sets) should always be available to everyone.

In my opinion, the desire to own a mold (not clothing) that few other people have or is unique roots down to plain old fashioned selfishness. If the limited-ness or uniqueness is the only reason you love the doll, then do you really love the doll? Would you really love your doll less if more people were able to own and love it to? That, to me, seems sad. Companies can mean what ever they want when they say "limited" and they have every right in the world to re-release the doll if they want more people to enjoy it or if they know they'll profit from it. They are artists and business people alike.

In the end, we are lucky at all that these companies even exist to provide us with such beautiful dolls. The ball is in their court to decide what ever they want to do with their own creations.

    14. yes !! should be restocked maybe with a different look, makeup, clothes.... but should be restocked in my opinion...

    15. I think if a doll is limited, and this fact encourages collectors to purchase because they want something exclusive and they are getting a premium price for it, they are only hurting their reputation to put it back into production. They would lose the faith of their customer.

    16. I actually think that maybe some times they should be restocked, even if just for a little while.
Mostly because the dolls I've seen and fell in love with (example; Lut's 08'man, I'd kill to get him..) were all limited.

    17. As much as I'd like to have one of those limited dolls, having them be limited is part of their appeal. They are a "rare" doll, and part of the "rare" doll's appeal is the fact that there are so few. By restocking a limited doll, it goes from being "rare" to "high-priced" which isn't the same.

    18. Actually i don't own a imited dolls, but i'll go mad if company re-stock a doll sells for limited..Simply.

    19. I can see a company creating more and extending how long it is available for. (They're trying to make money... that's how it works) But I think as soon as they are sold out they need to remain so. It breaks my heart when I see one and it's sold out, and I know that I will probably never get the doll. But I would not be a happy camper if my limited doll turned out to be not-so-limited.

    20. As much as I would love a re-release of Soom MD Beryll (the first doll I fell in love with and had no hope in hell of getting lol) It defeats the purpose and the price tag people pay for them, if they are re-released.
