Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. 1. I don't think a company should restock limiteds.
When they say something is limited, what they are saying is it's going to be artificially rare, and therefor have a higher more lasting value than another doll. If they re-release the doll, they are automatically devaluing it.
They also, in my eyes, would seem less trustworthy. It makes it look like they put the limited tag on the doll specifically to drive their own sales up, without having either a care for what the purpose of limited items are, or for those who actually buy their product, considering it an investment.

    2. Yeah, I think they should be re-released!
For new people getting into the hobby (ohi, that's me) it can be very frustrating falling in love with a doll only to find they won't be released again! (ohh, zuzu persi - the waitress.. I still dream of you..! )
But I suppose in the spirit of keeping things exciting for current doll owners it makes sense. It just isn't fair for newbies.

    3. I think it should be restocked. In fact, I really rather bjd companies not have limited dolls period.

I'm just getting tired of the hobby. And tired of all my favorite dolls being out of my price range because someone wants to make a few extra hundred dollars profit. I mean, they have the right to do that all they want. They could sell it for thousands if they want. There's really no right or wrong to this. That's not the point when people complain about scalpers. The point is that it is just a frustrating aspect of the hobby, that's all.

I can understand being frustrated that you bought a doll and the company re-releases it, and you could have saved a lot of money. I understand those people's frustrations! But the people we should be angry at are not the doll companies, and I'm not really sure why people are getting angry at them. Unless you value the limited number, but most are not being sold like that anymore.

    4. I think they should restock the specific faces, but it's fine if they only want to make a few "sets" with certain costumes and wigs. It's the face I want, I don't care about the fancy hat.

    5. the full unique set could be limited... so body head faceup wig eyes extras for charater like horns hooves fang face wings ect and a complete clothing set... that could be offered as a limited sale and never repeated!

but I think that the mold of head and body and extras... like horns wings ect... could come back for sale later... but never all available at the same time with the exact total faceup and clothing to match the limited so people could design their own characters from these stock molds

    6. Despite my bad habit of falling for out of stock limited edition dolls, I do not think that they should be rereleased. If they were, then there would be no point in them being limited. It would also not be fair to those who bought them during the first release.

Not saying that I wouldn't want them to, though. I'd love to see a rerelease of Soom's Chrom (I loved this dolls face and extras) or Angelheim's Kozy with raccoon parts (I want those MSD paws so bad) as well as many more that I saw too late or couldn't afford at the time.

    7. There Is a few i think should but then it wouldn't be limited well mabe if they do another fifty out of fifty there still be only a hundred. interesting topic.

    8. I yearn for a limited doll that I will never get because I refuse to buy a doll used.
It's sad. I wish they'd bring him back even for like a week or something. :(

    9. I think if companies re issue limited edition dolls, that just makes them liars. It is ok to re issue the doll sculpt but in different combination of clothes and face up. But, definitely a no no to re release the whole set, including the clothes and face up and extra body parts. I think what Soom is doing now is ok, as long as they don't re release the full Monthly Doll set, I think it's fair. You don't get the extra fantasy pieces off of these human versions. Even though I find that they should not have said they were never to re release those monthly dolls... if they r unsure, they should just say it and not totally deny a re release of the sculpt because I believe some desperate fans of the dolls paid boatloads of money just because they thought Soom was never going to release them again, so get them before the price goes even higher. I think they though Soom meant what they said, but ends up they released the human versions of the MD dolls. I feel unjust for the 2nd market buyers but also at the same time, I think Soom needed to get more income in this economy downturn to survive. I guess it was a mistake on their part for saying so firmly they were never to release the Monthly Doll sculpts again. But at least Soom is releasing human versions of the fantasy dolls, not exact replicas including the costume and fantasy parts, I think it's fine this way if this keeps their company in business.

    10. I think if a limited sculpt was to be re-released, the way Luts did with some of their elves, that wouldn't bother me. In fact, I'm hoping they'll eventually get around to re-releasing their Shiwoo elf sculpt, as well. Just a limited sculpt being re-released is not that big a deal to me.

Now, if it was a limited fullset, that might be another story. My B&G Nailo elf fullset, for example, has a limit of 30. Comes with full outfit and wigs and special eyes and faceup, and extra clawed hands. Plus, he's an elf. I know B&G sells an unlimited human version of Nailo. If they re-released him as an elf version, that probably wouldn't bother me. But if they started selling his limited clothes set as standard outfit on their site, or re-releasing him as the same type of fullset in the future, even though there are only supposed to be 30 of this set, that might be a bit annoying for some collectors. There'd be no point in calling him "limited" then.

Well, I bought him because I really liked him, though, not just because he's limited. So even if he were to be re-released and sold as standard, clothes and all, I'm happy because I own one.

    11. I do agree its a bit unfair if the company really does sell my doll again, especially for a cheaper price. I think its a lot more fun knowing you have a limited doll. Plus it gives others a challenge to getting one of their own.

    12. if they restock them .. then they wouldn´t be limited ._.

    13. Er by restocking a limited doll, then you are completely going against the entire point of the word LIMITED. Of course they shouldn't restock a limited doll! I'm sorry but arguments about people wanting them, therefore they should make them not limited are just preposterous. It's absolutely silly.

I had what was at the time, supposed to be a limited doll. I bought him because he was the perfect and only doll embodiment of my character anywhere, but I must admit part of his appeal WAS his limitedness. He was all set to be my one and only limited doll. My most expensive doll AND based on my most important character.

Then the company went and bought out a new system where by, not only can people get the doll I bought as a limited, but they can now all of a sudden get the doll that I bought because he was meant to be special. And not only that, they can get the special parts on said doll, that were previously ONLY available on the sculpt I bought and one other sculpt. And this was mere months after they brought out my so called limited doll.

Sure they are only available for a certain amount of time every month, and they cost a little more than what I paid for him when buying him as a limited. But it does sort of ruin my enjoyment of him, as he's no longer the limited doll he was meant to be. He's pretty much just a normal doll that I spent a bucketload of money on now instead.

I'm sorry but it's just wrong. If something is limited, then it's limited. The entire point of the word limited means it's not available in large qauntities! If companies re-release their limited dolls then they wouldn't be able to call them limited anymore! And that defeats the entire purpose of such a word. I never planned to have or even want a limited doll, but the second I saw that special edition doll, my dreams came true and I thought he'd have an added bonus of being fairly limited as well. Now he's not, that does ruin some of my enjoyment of him. And just think how furious people who paid way more than I did for a truly limited doll would be to find that now their doll is not so limited or special anymore. It's wrong plain and simple. And yes I do get very worked up about said fact, both on my behalf and on behalf of those who have much more rare dolls than I.

If you want something special, like a limited doll, work your way up to it and save for it, just like I did. Don't sit there and whine about how you're a newbie or someone who missed out for one reason or another and want a doll that you love and can't get because it's limited. I had to live with it, and I eventually managed to get exactly what I'd dreamed of since I asked the company to make said doll. It's worth it and the doll will mean so much more to you if you work to get it. *gets off soapbox now.*

    14. I don't mind about companies restock Limited dolls but it is strange if they restock limited dolls because if everyone can get them, they are not limited anymore.

    15. Yes, I think limited should only apply to make-up, resin color or clothing since sometimes you love the sculpt and the only way to buy a limited is through overpriced second-hand. Re-releases are awesome for people who love the sculpts but missed the chance to buy it at a fair price.

That being said, I think a company should say if a sculpt is limited, rather than just saying a fullset is limited, because it specifically states whether or not the sculpt will ever be available other than the limited release and would warn anyone who just puts value in a doll because it's limited. There should be prior warning about re-releasing a limited.

Then again, a company has everything to gain and nothing to lose from re-releasing a limited so I don't blame them for re-releases. The company gains nothing from second hand sales so they don't really owe anyone anything. :sweat

Right now I'm surprised at the outrage towards Soom's re-releases yet people are super happy when Volks re-releases. Boggles the mind what the difference is between what the companies did.

    16. Most of my dolls are limiteds. I did not buy them because they were limiteds... I just happened to like the sculpts or outfits or default faceups or whatever, so I got them. I also don't tend to re-sell dolls, so it doesn't matter to me if prices go up or down.

HOWEVER... I do wish the companies would state what they mean when they say they have a Limited.

I think buyers can get a little upset if they rush to buy a doll because they think it's their only chance--or pay a big price on the secondary market--and then find out the doll is being released again.

And re-releases may drive some doll prices down (I've seen it happen with some of my dolls), which is bad for those who wish to sell to get more dolls, but doesn't really affect me, since I'm not reselling. Again, it would be nice to know if the company might have plans to do re-releases, since that just helps the buyer make a decision when they buy. and it would keep buyers happier.

In a way, I wish the companies would drop the whole "limited" label, as it really isn't followed consistently by companies. They should say dolls are being sold for a limited time and may or may not be sold again, if they want to do that, but just call it a limited sale period and not a limited doll... and maybe give a hint of what they might do with the sculpt later on down the line, just so people can be informed.

    17. Well, I'm in for the restock of some limited dolls. There have been a few that I've missed, and cannot find second-hand if not overly-priced.

That said, it would kinda take off the "limited" quality, I believe. As april said, it would be better for the companies to drop the "limited doll" label.

    18. I don't own a single limited doll because I've scrimped and saved for every doll I own and it breaks my heart when ever I see a limited I love and know that I'll never own it because it is a limited.

That said, I love the idea of fullset limited dolls where a company uses a mold they have already and gives them a special outfit or special parts (IE DZ Asura or the CP Untold Story crew) I think it's so cool that they're taking the time to show off their dolls.

    19. On one hand, it's not up to me to decide how a company chooses to run their business or what they choose to sell. I don't condemn companies like Soom, who have a new limited every month. I love some of their molds, and if one is patient then you can find what you're looking for on the MP. Granted, you may have to pay double (if not more) than what you'd ordinarily have to pay for similar, non-limited doll parts, but you can find them.

But at the same time, I really hate it when I miss out on some of these beautiful dolls (not just Soom), knowing that if I really want them, I'll have to scour and haunt the MP in order to find them. And pay much more than I would for a non-limited doll. I'll use Soom as an example, yet again. They have some beautiful molds, absolutely gorgeous in my opinion, that I wouldn't mind seeing them selling some as a regular line of dolls, albeit without the fantasy parts.

    20. If they do it I'd be really happy :) I'm totally in love with a lot of lati limited releases, but when they sell it, I can't buy it :S
