Do you trust your doll to stand?

Jul 20, 2016

    1. Thank you @redsixwing ! That looks like a fine doll stand. I'll try to purchase it =)

    2. I keep mine standing without stands. I don't own a single stand lol, but I might eventually invest in a stand or two in future I guess. If my dolls can't stand, then I'd prop them against the cabinet wall for support and pose them like they are leaning against the wall, but so far all my dolls can stand on their own but a couple require some fiddling around to make them stand more "solidly".

    3. I never leave mine standing... I stand them if I'm there to keep an eye on them, but I just worry. Plus... they aren't all the most stable.

Well, Vince. Due to my being a bit inept at restringing, he's got like... just one 'bad hip', really. He can be pretty sturdy short-term when he's in his shoes, but I never know when he'll flop over. Billy's very sturdy in shoes, but because he lives on a high shelf, I never stand him when I'm just leaving him unattended. I just stand him for photos, in places where if he did tip over he'd likely be fine. (Pete... doesn't have his own shoes, and isn't the best stander barefoot, but he can stand pretty well if he has something to lean against.)

Marigold I sometimes feel more confident about, since she's got four legs-- and on one occasion, I got her to stand on three!-- but it's just become my habit to never leave a doll standing unattended, so I still have her lounge when I'm not actively working with her and paying full attention to her.

    4. Only for about five minutes at a time!

70cm doll, set to stand, and then suddenly...timber!! That's why I get so excited when he does just stand. He's simply on his own two feet and I'm there bowing at him. Because he's standing.

It's like he's Bambi trying to take his first steps, just without Thumper giving him that push!

I could maybe trust the 27cm little guy to stand unaided, when he arrives, because he'll be smaller and (should be) lighter than Alex.

    5. i trust my dolls to stand! i just don't trust the universe (cats, earthquakes, explosions, my own clumsy self, etc) to not knock them down :sweat i think they look more comfortable/natural sitting anyways, honestly. i mean...how would YOU like to stand up perfectly still and straight 24/7?

    6. Well, I trust 3 out of 4 of mine to stand. My resinsoul centaur is probably the most stable, and the only one I'd actually be willing to leave the room while she's standing. My Cyna*mon and Mini Machina are both pretty sturdy, if I want to enjoy them standing. They still shake with the table though, so I wouldn't leave them. Doll chateau Lilly? Yeah nope :XD: Not with those stick legs. One of the few other people who owns that doll's body sculpt got her to stand and I for the life of me have no clue how they did it!

    7. I trust (most of) them to stand in a "they're standing on their own two feet on an uneven rock in the middle of a creek when I'm two feet away with a camera" way, but not in a "leave them on the shelf standing all the time even when I'm not there" kind of way, y'know? There could be a freak earthquake, or I might bump the shelf and send them all tumbling down, or the cat might decide to chase a bug and knock into them... I have chairs/benches/beanbags/etc for them to sit on so they look nice and comfy :)

    8. I only trust my dolls to stand if I'm within catching distance, haha. Otherwise, I'm too paranoid they'll come crashing down if I leave them standing unattended so I just display them all sitting. I would like to get doll stands at some point though so that I can safely display some of them standing.

    10. I don't leave my doll standing on his own, I just can't trust him to not wobble and fall over (it doesn't help that living on a farm heavy machinery is always moving around outside making things rattle and wobble in the house).
He stands well enough, given a little encouragement, so I'm fine with posing for photos and for a short duration while I'm in the room but I will never leave him stood on his own.
I have cats too... Not really a great combination.

    11. I would never leave my dolls standing on their own.
I don't really know why, but as soon as I open my window, there's a lot of wind that come into the house. If they didn't have a stand they would fall every time I open the window. :/

    12. It depends on which of my dolls we're talking about. I could leave my souldoll Vito standing for days and he'd be fine. Same with my nYID boys, and my little MYou 1/6 guy. The rest of my dolls? Some of them can't even stand for five seconds and others are stable enough to stand on a flat surface indoors. If I'm standing my dolls for display purposes, I usually use doll stands.

    13. Yes...but just for pictures....that's why I bought her an stand from Amazon.

    14. I trust my centaurs to stand... and they have for years. But my two legged friends must either sit, lay down or have a stand when I'm not around. I'm sure they would fall eventually.

    15. i don't trust them, i have floor boards and i worry if i walk hard on the floor they will shake and fall, they are also in the same place that my xbox and tv is set up and people come in and out of the room a lot. don't want to risk anything :)

    16. I could trust Hyacinth to stand, but mostly I don't if I'm not in the room. I'm only just realising what a basically solid little poser she is. I wouldn't trust her to stand entirely on one foot if I'm not within catching distance, but she can handle a basic stance for showing off clothing and suchlike just fine.

My souldoll girl? At the moment, forget it! I can't trust her to keep even one leg or arm straight, she's so tightly strung. Forget letting her stand, I can barely persuade her to SIT when she isn't curled up in a fetal ball or on her knees!

    17. If I'm out if the room (or even not watching them closely) I always use a doll stand or I put them in seated position, just in case, even if they are a solid stander. I'd hate to kick myself later if they chipped or cracked or messed up their faceup due to my inattention.

    18. I usually keep my dolls sitting on their shelf when I'm away, even when they're super good posers, just because I'm kind of a worrier and it would nag at me during the day haha "What if they fell? Gasp." Plus I have cats who would love that opportunity to knock a doll over. They for some reason are more enticed when the dolls are standing (probably because the wigs dangle more)

    19. HAHAHA no. I used to, I would just plop him down and he'd stand so solidly. I have no idea what happened but one day he was standing up solidly for five minutes while I was looking at him and as soon as I turned he fell! Now he'll stand perfectly as long as I'm looking but the second I turn away he falls. It's not just standing that's become tricky, ever since he got a pair of shoes he's been really difficult to pose without him falling or kicking me or faceplanting or punching himself. It's like he's trying to curl up into a ball all the time. He still sits and slouches solidly and since that's what he does 95% of the time so I don't really mind it. Honestly it makes me smile and sometimes laugh for some reason. It's like he's trying to do weird and ridiculous stuff and it's cheered me up on many a sad day. I don't do photoshoots or photostories so at the moment I don't need a stand however I will probably need one eventually and since I'm me I'll probably just make one.

So TL;DR no but I don't mind it enough to get a stand at the moment.

    20. Not at first. See, I was completely unaware of company's tendencies to string their dolls pretty loosely when shipping them so I was convinced that this was how they were supposed to be and that I just sucked as a amateur doll poser. Dear lord, I still remember the struggle to make my first doll stand upright, it will haunt my nightmares forever... :shudder
