~*~Do Your Dolls Share Clothes?~*~

Jan 21, 2011

    1. I want to but my dolls are in different sizes. But they do share eyes and sometimes wigs.

    2. Some of their clothes get shared like tanktops, but I've found that most outfits get attached to one doll and so I end up thinking of it as that dolls. Shoes though they always share because I just put on whatever suits the outfit.

    3. Yep they will - at least the basics, however they will wear them differently. So a pair of jeans may get passed around, but one boy will cuff them at the bottom, another will belt them and toss on dress shoes and blazer and another will stuff them in knee high boots. But all of them will have their own signature style and items that they won't share.

    4. I've definitely had a clothing problem, haha. My poor girl came with nothing! We got her some underthings, but... they got horribly bunched up in her joints and the dark color of it stained her! I took them off as soon as I noticed. I haven't been able to get her anything, and I don't want the problem of them getting into her hip joints again -- because that really messes up her legs. It completely dislocates her legs and it's an effort to get them back into place. So for a long time, way too long, she went bare. It was awkward when people would handle her and then pause and blush or check under her dress and make some sort of comment on it. I was cleaning out our closet and found part of my boy's fullset -- his underwear! A wife-beater and boxers (both white). So now she is wearing his boxers. Though it did make someone ask me if they were in a secret relationship, I actually really like how things turned out. They don't get in her joints at all and they cover everything up! I don't think of her any differently, even though it doesn't fit her style at all. I plan on getting her some bloomers in the future, but right now, I'm pleased.

My fiancee and I have a shared outfit between our Volks dolls. It fits both of them well -- literally and personality-wise.

    5. If they can fit, why not share? I have different sized dolls, so if something can be shared, the image that the clothing gives off changes somewhat. A baggy sweater on one doll suddenly becomes a fitted one on another and vice versa. The lengths look different and can really give off a different vibe!

The only time I think I wouldn't share clothes between dolls is if the dress is made for a specific character a doll has. If I made it with her in mind, the point of it was to be something she could wear... so sharing it seems rude. :chibi

    6. Out of my family, I only have two that are the same size. They may share jeans, a few tops that are versatile, but there are also tops that one likes, and the other one doesn't. One is very girly, and so the flowery, whimsy shirts are hers. While the other one likes to sport an Adventure Time teeshirt, which is way to casual and childish for the other!

    7. I can only hope that my Littlefee Baby body can share some clothes with the Littlefee body I already have. Otherwise every single one of my dolls will be a different size.:| Of course it's nice to have a variance in size, but you're right that clothes are not cheap and I can't sew to save my life. Honestly if those two can, it'll be fantastic because one character isn't particularly super girly and the other is a boy and the clothes I have are mostly neutral unisex type clothes (such as jeans). Having all child characters is very helpful when it comes to accessories, and actually clothes as well because child characters aren't necessarily as well defined.

    8. I have 6 SD boys, so they can share clothes and they do sometimes, although their styles are a bit different. Mostly they share accesoiries, shoes and wigs and jewelry and things like that. I like playing around with their outfits and trying one doll in anothers outfit, even if I didn't think it would be his style, sometimes I'm surprised :D And sometimes it looks ridiculous and I have a laugh xD

    9. While all my dolls so far are mature minis their bodys ar too defferent to be able to share antything but stretchy t-shirts and some wide skirts. There are a few basic pieces that they do share, but mostly I still see it as if the doll wering it is "borrowing" it from the doll it was made for.
I see nothing wrong with it. Friend and siblings borrow clothes from each other all the time so why shouldn't dolls?

I even sometimes find mysef playing out a little scene in my head where one of the dolls ask the other to borrow whatever it is and their characters are allowed to make any kind of terms or negotiate it on their own. But I'm silly like that, my dolls characters are very much alive in my mind.

    10. My two MSDs would share some of the basic's - like a black tank top or some tennis shoes. More often, though, they have their own distinct wardrobe. Such as David is more 'preppy' and Guy wouldn't be caught in some of his suits or polo shirts as David wouldn't be wearing Guy's leather pants or chain mail shirt  I also have a mature 1/6 (Iso) and an off-topic doll that can wear the same clothes, but again, their personalities are different so they have their own outfits (I have to keep separate so I can locate their clothes easier). Even though they have different clothes, they also share some of the basics like tights or simple tank tops/tees.

    11. I'm half and half. My MSDs definitely share shoes and pants. My girls have different styles though - one wears dresses and the other doesn't really that much, so there's that too. There are accessories and such that definitely belong to the princess of the group. Everybody else just shares for now - I don't really have enough clothes yet for each to have their own wardrobe.

    12. I'm fairly sure my gang will end up sharing clothes, since they have similar styles. It's all rather casual clothing, and most of the characters share clothes in their own stories as well.

    13. The only time My dolls share clothes is when I first get them in and I haven't yet made an outfit for them. I make all their outfits (I've bought maybe two outfits, both of them I rarely put on my dolls). Each of them have their own personalities and character base, so they each have their own set of clothes that no other doll wears. Although there is one dress the two of my dolls share, but it still belongs to one particular doll XD. Then some of them couldn't share clothes if they wanted to because of the size differences.

    14. My dolls have been sharing for years, wigs, eyes, shoes, clothes especially the girls, but not the boys....that's another story in itself

    15. No they don't
I actually have twins and the clothes got to be matched
that's even worse they couldn't share and I have to buy double

    16. My Iple girls share some basics (except for Niamh who has been a little traumatized from having nothing of her very own for the first month or so, so now she refuses to wear anything that isn't explicitly hers and she won't allow any of the others to touch her stuff either). Once my floating head gets her Miro body, she'll get some of the basics everyone seems to be sharing until I get around to making her own things. But those shared items are mostly basic shirts/tops and leggings, every doll has their own personality and there are some things that belong to them respectively - Chris would never wear Lauren's faux suede pants or lacey shirts, nor in turn allow anyone to put on her summer dresses or favorite pullover. Anything that really shows a doll's personality is taboo for everyone else.

    17. If the dolls are the same size, they share clothes - and why not?

I have a few odd-sized dolls who have to have their own wardrobes, but even they end up sharing shoes and accessories.

    18. My dolls share clothes a lot :aninja: . I do have clothes enough so that no one needs to be naked (though there is a lot to improve so match their individual styles...) but I like to let them lend clothes from each other. So if one doll needs a shirt they lend it from the doll it belongs to instead of buying another shirt.

I Don't feel it affects their personality at all. They are who they are and even if they are wearing something different they are still the same character :apirate:.

    19. technically mine can't (size/gender reasons... trust me pirates "do not" wear frilly skirts :barf). That being said, does it count if mine share with other dolls from other owner ^^. A club mate has a wonderful Sebastian Micheals (sp?) and he looked spectacular in a Swallow Tail 'lordly' coat with a red lining. And I am actually hoping to find enough tall slim boys from club members to hand out my collection of Soul Doll outfits with the pirate/leather-ish type coats and get a group shot of all of them on dolls... I even have 2 one friends mentally tagged for particular outfits lol...

EDIT: I reread my post and realize my guys might do 'drag' if it was a disguise? A minor character who is an 1800's privateer dresses as a harlot to get off a ship headed for 'prison'... sooooo maybe? or undercover (in the King's service of course). lol I can just see my planned IH Dexter or Roger like that lol... yikes!... Although one of the cuter YID's might pull that off ^^.

    20. As much as possible, the clothes that I've collected are purchased towards an end of mixing and matching ( unless gender specific by my standards ). There are only a very few specific costumes that really can't be mixed, but so far, if it fits and individual items look good together, then any of the dolls can wear it. Wigs & shoes are shared the same, although my wife and I disagree sometimes as to what looks best together. And so far, none have become permanently associated with a wig or clothing. The default outfit items & bits get used as needed, but are kept track of so that the outfit can be quickly reassembled if desired. I have the beginnings of back stories on some of the dolls, but this so far hasn't bound any of them to a specific look.
