1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

does anyone feel like they've spent too much money?

Jul 3, 2006

    1. I haven't bought anything for four years and I still feel like I spend too much on dolls lol I have a head that needs a body and a wig, and a full doll that needs his own clothes (he's too big for the other dolls' outfits). But I'm pretty darn scared of spending a single penny. I'm poor as heck, and responsibilities come first.

    2. Yes -.-' I am suffering from major buyer's remorse right now! I spent more than what I should have spent. So right now I'm kicking myself in the butt lol

    3. I always feel like I spent too much on this hobby, or at the very least bought too much in too short a timespan... but then I glance over to my right, see all the cute happy faces, and then shut up xD

    4. No.
But I wish I hadn't bought so much clothing when they usually stay in 1 or 2 outfits.
So no, not too much money but could have had another doll with all the clothing just sitting in a trunk...

    5. After spending $1000 on two dolls this month... HELL YES... But really I am hoping the new comers will be worth the price, and the wait. Because I almost got out of the hobby all together!

    6. Yes, sometimes. Usually, right after purchasing an expensive doll. There's always something practical I could have spent the money on. Then again, I think, I'm allowed once in while. I work, I pay all my bills, I also save, and I don't live extravagantly. So, if dolls are my one vice and they make me happy ... hey, that's not so bad. :) Everyone has something.

    7. I moved internationally a couple of months ago, and had to write up a detailed doll list for insurance and customs purposes - seeing the numbers laid out all together like that was a little disconcerting. It definitely made me reevaluate how I see my collection evolving in the future.

    8. Since ive only been in the hobby for about 2 years i went a year without considering any dolls, over the past few weeks/months i have gotten 2 full dolls and 3 heads >< at the same time i feel like my money could go elsewhere but after all my priorities are taken care of thats when i consider dolls. I dont party too much so i have a bit more money to spend then the average young adult xD

    9. I dont feel like I've spent too much money, I know I did.

I think its best for me to never ever add up how much ive spent. I might get a pretty big coronary artery spasm.

    10. It took me four years to reconcile spending 'that much' all in one place! I only dropped about $330, but I wouldn't let myself buy anything until after I had a steady job and reliable financial aid for my college education. Dollies are special privileges in my life and it's hard not to cringe at the money!

    11. omg 1000x this!!!!

    12. The doll has to be perfect in sculpt and body, but I still feel like I'm over-indulging myself every time I buy one. My husband just looks at me, then says "it's your money". I too pay my bills, and kind of use dolls as a reward for reaching a goal, such as paying off a large bill. While I kind of want one more, and try a different size for a bit, and then, how can I possibly give all the time each doll deserves?!

So, yeah, still guilty over how much I've spent. But just look at their little faces!!!! Add in that I actually am learning all kinds of photography techniques, photoshop, and how to make my own clothes, and the investment suddenly takes on a new meaning.

    13. It's the price of international shipping that really gets to me...

    14. Yes! Not on my doll though, that cost I can accept. It is the cost of the wigs I just got that blew my jets, it's mainly the shipping that is crazy. 3 wigs for $100 *0*

It's a really good thing when explaining the hobby to someone new to research the cost of wigs, clothing etc.... I would hate for someone new to think it stops at the cost of the doll lol!!

    15. One half of me thinks "well you could buy so many other things, you could buy a car instead of 2 or 3 dolls!" but then the other half thinks that if I keep doing it (buying dolls) then it must make me happy, and that justifies the money I spend :)

    16. I have this feeling every single day. No regrets.

    17. Nope, not at all. Of course, the dolls are really expensive but they are well worth the amount of money spent on them. However, clothing and accessories can be really expensive and I've done my best to keep those costs down. I buy each of my dolls a couple of outfits and a few wigs..but I generally make all of their clothes and I'm learning to do faceups so that I can cut out those costs. Like any other hobby there are ways to manage your expenses.

    18. I don't have many expenses but I'm generally pretty cheap when it comes to certain things, I squirrel my money away for one day soon when I know that I'll really need it
I rarely spend money if I don't have to (or have thought about it a while and really really want the item) so as long as I'm not taking any money from my savings for anything that isn't 100% necessary spending money on luxury items is alright
however, every now and again I do spend rather large chunks of money on seemingly trivial things such as nice clothes for my doll or even something nice for me and do feel as if I have spent too much (usually a few days after I have spent the money) but then by the time the stuff finally arrives I have forgotten all about that feeling and am happy with my purchase(s)

sometimes though I do get that feeling a while after I have bought the item(s) or even when I'm just thinking about buying something expensive

    19. Oh I know I've spent too much money but then I think, money is for spending. There is money saved for emergency, money for retirement and money that is saved to do something you love. At the end of the day, I think - what else do I want that I could have spent my money on - and my answer is always nothing.

    20. I feel at times like I am not spending enough money in this hobby. I subscribe to a lot of BJD owners on YouTube. I do not know how they are able to keep purchasing and selling at the rate that some of them do. I actually enjoy watching all the things that they purchase and watch their selling videos too. But I had to figure out not to have buyers remorse. So I am going incorporate all my sewing skills, collection of fabric, etc. into this hobby so that I enjoy this hobby and not think about the cost of the BJDs.
