1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

does anyone feel like they've spent too much money?

Jul 3, 2006

    1. I don't feel like I've spent too much money. I shop/buy for my dolls after I pay my bills, essentials, a good amount into savings and gas in my car,so I never feel like I spend too much. It also helps that I'm in an industry where I always have cash on hand, and I still live at home while I'm saving up for a place of my own. I think budgeting and priorities play a lot into it.

    2. I just. . I don't think about what I spent. I can't.

    3. I only feel like I've spent too much money when I look around at my dolls/doll items and count their cost in the number of semesters of tuition I could have paid to attend ivy league colleges. :P It's like, "You cost one semester, you could three... These wigs cost a semester, that outfit cost a semester, and so did that one!"

When I think of how much I have spent as a currency amount, I feel they are so completely worth it. :) I actually keep a tally of everything I have purchased and sold in the hobby, so I am all too aware of how much I have spent in this hobby. Even so, I don't feel like I have spent too much because of the amount of enjoyment I have received in the time I have owned them.

    4. Well I don't, but my wife does. She just saw the bank statement. I foolishly paid with account transfer instead of credit card, so she was like "why are you sending so much money to some Russian lady?! Ah well...

    5. I feel like I spend too much money all the time, even on groceries. There's no escaping it for me.

    6. Rather than thinking of it as a lump sum, I divide what I spend over the year. $500 over the course of a year is less than $2 a day when you think about it. Some people spend way more than that each day on coffee. And since, I they make my smile each day (and I get hours of enjoyment, researching/buying/dressing/styling/playing with/and photographing my dolls, I consider it money well spent :) )

    7. Goodness yes, but I regret nothing!

    8. why did you not make your own cloth for your BJD
      Ilike to make patterns
for the BJD t is ot easy but very rewarding

    9. I do right now but I think it's only because I don't have them in hand. 1,800 is a lot to spend and have nothing to show for it yet. I think once I have them in hand I'll feel different about it.

    10. well this hobby takes a lot of money so I'm prepared to save before I can get my dolls but layaway is always good to have so you can pay a little at a time.

    11. I'm at a point where I have to be really careful with money, so I rummaging through my old clothes for ideas on outfits to sew rather than buying. I'm also attempting to make a chair for my Nauticaa to sit on from some wood I had lounging around the house. I bought a few outfits and two pairs of boots for her when I bought her back in April (back when I had money) as I wanted to show her off to my family.

    12. I have beautiful evening gown I want to customized to fit for the next doll. My doll Minji have flowery summer dress which I made for her. It completely fits her personality. In terms of dolls, I just want to get one more for now. I will add more dolls in the future if I have such opportunity.

    13. For me I spend too much money, then I regret it, then I mope and sell things.......and then I spend again -sobs-

    14. Spent too much? Well, maybe. Is it going to stop me from spending more? No way!

    15. Depends on what is "too much"... I haven't spent more than I can afford. It's still probably "too much" though... And yet I've spent "too much" with a huge smile on my face, so I'll not complain. ;)

    16. Yes, I definitely feel like I have spent too much money at times. I try to set limits for myself and ask: "Can I make this myself for a cheaper price?" It definitely helps!

    17. I never think this, unless I stop and actively think about the amount of money spent on my dolls. :sweat Even considering that I got some of them as "steals" (events, secondhand, etc), once you get past one or two dolls, even those start really adding up in price (not to mention wigs, eyes, clothes, supplies for aesthetic work, furniture, and on and on and on). I don't spend recklessly, however, and I don't feel like I've overspent when I look at them. And honestly, I don't think about the cost, either, because I wouldn't want to sour my enjoyment with working out the monetary value.

    18. My rules of spending money on hobby is, i have to prepare all expense coverd for the next 3 months.. If i still have spare money, then i use it for hobby.. Means that, i never think i spend too much
Although sometimes when i calculate how much i spend the money for dolls and props, i get surprised hahahaha

    19. I don't feel like I've spent too much money. I know I've spent too much money.

But that's what being an adult with a full time job and no responsibilities beyond myself is for.

    20. Haha Kim, that's how I feel too! I wouldn't ever go into debt over a doll, but if I have spare cash and feel like buying a doll or doll-related items, why wouldn't I do so? I work for my money and think I have the right to spend it the way I like.

I try not to think about the total cost of my doll group. Then again, they aren't like a car that needs fuel every so often and for which you need to pay insurance every month. It's a one-off cost.

Yes, yes, I'm justifying my 21 dolls, I'm sorry...
