Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. does anyone feel like they've spent too much money?

Jul 3, 2006

    1. Hehe, you guys make me feel good about my dolly spending. I mean, once everyone gets here I'll have five dolls and 3 extra faceplates, for what one would spend on a Feeple 65 fullset and a puki wig. And I diy a lot, so there isn't much extra expense after they arrive.

    2. First off I wanna know were I can get a couple outfits and all that the op mentioned for 150$ O.o

      I know I've spent too much just buying the doll to begin with... And I have 2 and one I just ordered xD. But for me the money I save just sits there until I spend it on something... And right now these dolls are what interests me... And I don't drink much so I hardly ever go out to bars or clubs.. And I don't smoke... My utilities are all included in rent so I save there too.. So basically my fun money is saved up for these dolls.. So even though I feel as though I have spent too much money on them I kind of at the same time don't worry about it much

    3. I don't spend more than I earn, so it's ok. Dolls make me happy. But I feel like I need to spend more on myself, not dolls. :) I have needs too...

    4. I'm getting a big sum of money soon, and I'm planning to spend a good amount on it on dolls/doll things, as well as a computer, gadgets, etc etc. I rarely, rarely, rarely buy something for myself, so it's kind of like a present? To myself... from myself. Haha. I've never had a hobby before this either, so I've never spent a ton of money on something over an extended period.

    5. I feel like I have spent too much money compared to what I thought I would spend in this hobby. My first idea was getting only one BJD, but things changed.
      I also feel like I have spent too much money compared to what I have spent in other hobbies I have too, but again not a higher amount than what I could spend.
      I do not feel like I have spent too much money when I think of the BJD characters I have. Each of them is an important piece of my resin crew and I love every of them.

    6. Yes orz. To prove the "ridiculousness" of it, a family member had me add up the total to see how much I've spent on dolls alone xD;
      Let's just say it's nearly 2 grand 8D;; (And that's just for the nude dolls, not including extra clothes/accessories but excluding fullsets). Which is actually not that much at all compared to what others have spent, so... that makes me want MORE XD;

      But hey, to each their own, right? I know people who spend thousands on video games or clothes or shoes, etc.
      And in the long run I think the dollies will last longer than a video game console or a fancy pair of shoes ;)

    7. only Sarah, but thats just cause the post office swindled me

    8. I will only be fooling myself, if I say I didn't spent so much in this hobby
      though all I can say is that, I love what am I doing, so be it! :3

    9. I did have this one day, while I was saving for my first doll, where I asked myself if this was all worth it. What could I buy with the money I had saved so far? Did I really want this doll?

      Oddly it lasted one whole day, but the next day, I didn't feel so down anymore.

      And I don't regret what I did, ever since doing it.

    10. All the time xD I do enjoy my dolls and such, but the blow to my bank account makes me wonder if I'm crazy.

    11. I love to buy cute things for my dolls, being relatively cheap individually, but as I´ve counted every single penny together to see how much this hobby really takes money, it´s quite shocking to see the actual numbers counted up. Would lie if told otherwise. Though then I´ll just look the lists and see, how much includes in that money... It helps a lot.

      Somehow the amount used on dolls isn´t that awful - they feel worth of it. But to use over $200 for shoes for dolls... Way more to wigs and eyes... Again the same price for toys for dolls! And for furniture and other stuff... Oh it makes me feel so crazy sometimes. (But don´t stop me from buying more cute stuff!) Luckily though, it´s comfortable to think that the things for dolls won´t wear off, they don´t grow out from their clothing and the items are able to be sold on and will last like forever if handled well.

    12. Nah. The good thing about money is that you can always get more. :)

    13. Ahaha ALWAYS. Like, people ask sometimes how much they cost and I realize just how crazy it is. My two current girls (MSD, PukiPuki) and my incoming LTF (yosd size) PLUS all of their accessories is probably somewhere around $1200 total. It's really not a lot compared to what other people spend but I do try not to buy things on impulse. I wait a couple months and see if I really want it and often times, I find that I don't. Lol. It saves me a lot of money in the long run.

      Plus I feel horrible that I will spend like $15 on shoes, $20-30 on a whole outfit and such for myself. But I'm willing to spend $30-50 on shoes for my dolls and have nearly considered buying an outfit that was $90+ for my doll. WHAT'S WRONG WITH THAT. Ugh. Lol.

    14. Oh, sure, I spend far too much money on dolls. But then if I wasn't spending it on dolls, I'd be spending it on something else. Maybe it's a little silly that now I buy more stuff for my dolls than I do for myself, but there's nothing morally wrong with that, in my book! :)

    15. I have spent way, way way way waywaywayway tooooo much on this hobby in the past year. But I've spent frugally. Only buying dolls in country, except for one. Only buy male dolls, so I'm regulating myself away from 1/2 the possibilities. Checking pricing for new dolls vs. old dolls that are just as lovely. So, though I have spent alot, I compare it to my husbands golfing. We are pretty well matched. He leaves my dolls alone, I leave his golfing alone.

    16. I don't really buy very much for my dolls directly, I mean I buy wigs/eyes and shoes, but between them, there's only maybe one and a half outfits that I haven't made myself? I don't feel like I've spent too much as these things go, I've got 8 full dollls and three heads, and after bodies and things have been purchased, I think I've still saved money... I'm pretty good at bargain hunting, so even though I've bought all this, I know it hasn't cost me nearly as much as it could have, and that makes me really happy. I brought two of my grail dolls home for really good prices all things considered, and while it's a sizeable chunk of money, it was for two dolls...

    17. Meh, I only wished I spent money on my boy himself now instead of three years ago (since the dolls are cheaper now)...Could've saved $100...T^T

      I still love him just the same, but I guess it's just a bit sad to see how fast the value of the doll when down. >_<;

    18. Yeah, I always get that feeling after placing a new order. Whenever I get my dolls / their stuff home though, I'm just happy >-<
      And since I usually don't spend my money on other things (no smoking, drinking, partying etc.) and enjoy this hobby so much, I'll keep on buying.

    19. I have certainly spent more money than I should right now but that's because I'm working part time, finishing grad school and looking for a job. However, once I've found the job it won't but such a scary amount of money and since I sew all my doll(s) outfits and make jewelry etc. I save some money that way. Plus they are a bright point in my life especially over this past month as I finished grad school and was under an enormous amount of stress. Somedays just sewing for her or taking pictures got me through so for that reason I would say that I haven't spent too much :)

    20. I recently visited the LA Sumika for the first time. I ended up spending way more than I ever had on doll stuff. Lets just say, I could have purchased a whole standard SD instead. ~___~. BUT, I do not regret it. I work hard for my money and saved especially for this visit. Plus my SD got everything I ever wanted for her. So I dont see myself splurging like that for a while. :)
