Does anyone prefer SMALLER eyes?

Apr 5, 2009

    1. I adore small eyes on dolls - my MA Sabik actually has the same eye size as my tiny XD I find it easier to part with my hard earned cash to buy stuff if it can be used by more than one doll...

    2. i thought that i might like a doll with larger eyes after having my first doll with 12mm eyes but now that i have a doll with 16mm eyes i think that he looks odd next to my favorite 12mm eyed dolly so he's getting to boot to the marketplace ^^

    3. Personally i don't like big eyes..But small eyes dolls are hard to find the perfect eyse for them~
Usually big eyes look more tender``

    4. I prefer smaller eyes, 14mm for MSD is fine I think. Of course it depends on the size of iris and doll itself. It looks weird if the whole eye is one big iris... O.o When there is also white area it looks maturer and nicer! ;)

    5. For little kid dolls, big eyes are fine - but I MASSIVELY prefer smaller eyes on adult or teen dolls. Way too many bjd dolls have eyes completely dominated by their face, and looks creepily out of proportion to me - I really find more realistic human proportions far more beautiful. On tinies, all bets are off, because kiddies have big cute eyes, but on adults I get a powerful "wrong" feeling if they are too big for their face, especially when matched with teensy eyes and noses.

    6. Big goo goo eyed dolls creep me out every now and then. o.o I think they're adorable on MSDs though. Definitely prefer smaller eyes for SDs.

    7. Another vote for smaller eyes! I just gave 12mm instead of company-recommended 14mm eyes to my Sabik, and what a difference! In the future I will do what many folks in this thread seem to be doing, and just go one size smaller.

    8. I'd say yes, but that's because I tend to like more realistic styled dolls (for my personal collection anyway). And I like them to be able to glare well and intensly. But it depends on the doll and the character they're representing. For example, the next doll I'd want is probably a Supia Yisol as my little sister for my Rosy. She'd probably have larger eyes because she's more young and innocent. Different personality than my Rosy's character.

    9. I like small eyes best, but for smaller dolls I think they're cute, if they're to be representing a younger person. I think smaller eyes make them look more intelligent and able to look around more.

    10. Me too!I love the smaller eyes type for matured dolls!!

    11. Ha, so the smaller the doll, the bigger the eyes, and vice versa?

    12. I never thought I'd actually say this, but I think I'm starting to. I got some eyes for Lucas and after seeing him with them in, I decided that they were just too big, so they're probably going to somebody else for the time being. For Eros and Dakota, they both have fairly small eyes, but mostly with Eros, since he's supposed to look older than, for example, Micah, who has much larger, much fuller eyes, if that makes sense.

And so starts my eye collection. :l

    13. I love smaller eyes. Smaller eyes in the face sculpt, and smaller eye sizes, too. Eyes that are too big really do look blank. It's a bit creepy. More naturally sized eyes have more personality I think.

    14. Depends on the doll...

I went down to 12s, I believe, for my Megi as the recommended 16s were ridiculously out of scale. But I went larger for my EID, his default eyes made him look like a coke head..

    15. Ahhh, I'm soooo glad to find people who like a smaller size eye in their resin folk.

And Toshi-chan - XD Poor guy, well his eyes now are fabulous! ^-^

I actually found a place to let my 16mm's hang out until I find someone to put them in. XD My floating Luts head wears a pair of 16mm glass eyes and they look find in him, but it's an SD size head. Honestly, for MSD sizes, unless your resin person is SUPPOSED to be a child with big shining innocent eyes....... Smaller is better. Honestly the "Pika pika, Shuuichi!" huge eyes in dolls aren't my thing at all, so finding that I'm not completely crazy for like 12 and 14mm eyes in MSD's is relieving! XD

    16. I use 14mm eyes in my SD-sized head, and while the irises are a bit bigger than is strictly realistic, it's vastly better for me than the 16mm that was recommended. I haven't played with it, but I might try going as low as 12mm for an even more mature-looking face, but it's possible the eyes would look too tiny in that case... I think it's just something that has to be played with. I'm sort of glad I have a few random sets of eyes in different sizes, because never again will I order the 'perfect' color of eyes without making sure of the size I want first. ;)

    17. i agree with you. i like a more realistic doll with smaller eyes. I think they look much more interesting that way.

    18. I like smaller eyes too. I'll be sizing all of my dolls eyes down as soon as I have the funds for a mass order from eyeco. Squishy eyes :D.

    19. every time i've gone down 2 sizes it never works out, you get the super startled look:lol:

    20. No you are most certainly not insane!!!!
I lurrvvv dolls with smaller eyes, but sometimes it depends. Sometimes I really like dolls with humongous manga eyes XD -I'm quite partial to B&G Sky-
but you're not insane! I think smaller eyes give a doll a more intelligent look, and it makes them more interesting sometimes.... <3
