Does your age reflect on the dolls you purchase?

Oct 22, 2005

    1. I am 26, but in many ways I feel younger.

Most of my dolls are 25-30 year old, attractive SD boys. At least when it comes to male dolls, I prefer mature sculpts that are SD or larger. At my age, I would just feel like Mrs Robinson drooling all over CP dolls or other more youngish sculpts. Ok, and I am having a bit of a ":...( I feel like an old lady"- crisis, so my dolls looking even older than me helps. I am completely in love with Soom Spinel, I think he is the perfect size and age :)

I've had hundreds of girl dolls of various sizes and styles while growing up, as my mother and I are both dolly-loonatics. As an adult I prefer male dolls, as they have a different form of esthetics, wardrobe... and hunkyness ;) On the rare occasion that I really fall for female dolls, they are either cute and childish MSD and smaller dolls, or more old-fashioned ladylike.

I mostly dress my dolls in gothic or metal style clothing, as that is a style I myself have kept for the last 10 years and feel comfortable with. I would also love to dress them in Warcraft-inspired costumes, just need to work up the courage and initiative to make them. All in all I would say my dolls reflect myself pretty much in style and age, and I do have a tendancy to choose dolls that share some of my boyfriends looks.

    2. I don't know how I missed this thread. This is an interesting topic.

I am in my early 30s. I don't think my age affects the dolls I purchase or how I envision them. My dolls range in age from 17 to 26.. to ageless. I have Large, Mini, and Tiny sized dolls. My Mini has an immature body, but I didn't buy her to be young. Two of my tinies look like toddlers, one has a mature body, and 3 are colorful forest elves.

They all wear different styles of clothing. English aristocrat, goddess, Chinese warrior, Russian military son.. they're all different.

I think they only reflection of me in them, or vice versa, is the essence of my mind and love of cultures portrayed in their characters.

    3. I'm not too sure. I consider myself mature and definitely no where near the teen age range, but I think my doll has a more "older" aesthetic appeal. Went for a more Victorian-ish Lolita look for her. If I had a boy, he would be more on the fantasy "younger" hip, sexy look I suppose.

    4. I'm 19, and started collecting when I was 17. My dolls are pretty much just the ages I think they look with their molds. They're all characters I had before I got into dolls, so I've used them at different ages, but the difference between their ages stays the same.

At the time, Tobienne is 20, Theiarry is 16, Dashiell is 17, and Veronie is technically about 22, but she's a pet dragon, and ages like a large turtle or parrot.

    5. of course yes, your age will reflect on your dolls, not only age, your hobby your personality will all reflect on your dolls more or less.If you like punk you may dress up your doll in punk style,if you are a cute kitten girl you may dress up your doll in pink.If you are well doing on make up ,the style of your dolls must be the style of you.

    6. I am 24, my crew is based on a "universe" of mine, so they are all characters I've created over the last 10+ years. The youngest character is Jonas, who is supposed to be 2. The oldest (and never going to be 'dolled,' most likely) is Lal at around 56000 (though she looks around 75.) For the ones I have, their ages range from 2 (Jonas,) 3 (Gael,) Gaia (5-6,) Asalahan (285 (but about 14 in maturity,) 38 (Weros,) 426 (Mikelandros,) Noorstom (520 (but about 26 in maturity,) Mariisa (704 (but about 35 in maturity,) and then Kasada, who is around 1100 years old.

I think my interest in family dynamics and dynastic relations framed my characters-dolls, not so much my age. But it definately differs for everyone. :)

    7. I'm 22 and all of my dolls range from the age of 18-26. Well...regarding their appearance at least so I'd say that my age does reflect the type of dolls I buy and their ages. Currently, I have a tiny in transit that I'm thrilled to have. As I'm not a real mommy yet, I think it'll be fun to have a "child" like figure in my little family. ^_^;

    8. Well I'm 21 and I'm getting my very first doll soon. I mostly go by how old I think the doll looks like or the age I choose which would be around 19-22. And again, it also relies on how I want my doll's character to be. For future dolls, I have already planned them to be in their twenties and if I end up getting an MSD, of course it would have to be a kid.

    9. I'm 25 and my first doll was an El when I was 22, but now I just have an Unoa Lusis, who was the first doll I fell in love with before I even considered myself in the 'fandom' and I still love her. I actually don't have an age for her, so.. I dunno. ^^'' Maybe I like her because she's cute and girly, very unlike myself.

    10. Maybe? I just turned 20 and I have a 4 1/2 month old son with no possibility of having more human children... I just ordered Claudia Neel from Dollmore (name may end up being Corinne Kurosaki, still thinking...). Her bio on there puts her at 17 years old.

    11. I am 16, and only like the more mature looking boy or girl dolls. I reallynever really thought that age really played a role in picking a doll. But I could be mistaken...... I think that all the dolls that a person chooses, reflects them is diffrent aspects.:)
Like current styles, and the kinda person they are-
Example, I am a guy who is kinda preppy:?, and thus I like more of the in style prepply looking pretty boys/girls
      or
I really love the more gothic, kinda darker looking dolls*_* because its a side that I really think I like, not really for me but for an aspect of my life, plus it kinda freeks out my parents:sweat!!! lol

So I really don't know if this helped at all:doh, but thats what I think......

    12. I am 20 and I tend to prefer the younger girl dolls or the mature boy dolls. I don't like to give definate ages for dolls, though. I like them being ageless and I tend to think of them as children despite the fact that I DO NOT want children.

As far as my age reflecting what dolls I buy I am not really sure. There are a few ideas I have bene thinking about. What if need a doll to to give my love to because I am at the point in my life when I leave my family behind ot start my own life? Or what if want young female dolls because I am trying to fulfill the fact that I never had a little sister? I dunno.

    13. Well i love anime and or fantasy looking dolls i hate realism mostly but i love asian looking dolls such as chinese or japanese.I have some that are semi asian human but look anime to ^hard to explain ^^ and im 18 but when im older i doubt id change.

    14. I don't think my age affects the dolls I purchase.
I'd just buy the molds that I like. :)

    15. I don't think age reflects the dolls I choose. I am an older member, but have a wide varity of dolls and styles, from Tinies to SD size, and Lolita to Steampunk.:)

    16. i dont think my age plays into the dolls i buy, it might play into how i'm able to buy them though /lololol usertitle =___='

one thing i've noticed though as as i've gotten older, my main characters have also aged with me, so i can relate to them better
but i still have a wide range of children to adult characters, from schoo at 12 to attic (his dad, roflrofl ) at 30

    17. Hmm maybe that's why I want a lati. I'm 27 and Maternal?

    18. Hmm, interesting question! :)

I'm 24 and bought my first doll a few months ago. She's really very styalized, in a cartoony way. She's roughly the same age as me, too. I like the styalized, cartoony dolls most at the moment ... maybe 'cause I draw cartoons? I don't know. But they appeal to me a lot ... and I think a lot of my dolls would be around the same age as me for now ^_^

    19. I don't think my dolls are a reflection of my age, I think they are more a reflection of my lost childhood. I am 21 years old and I didn't have a happy childhood. I missed out on a lot of things children do and I had to mature and grow up beyond my years in order to cope with life.

I have dolls of all sizes and styles too so I still can't pin it down to anything specific, I like a bit of everything, cute young children, more mature adults and even anime styled dolls. I like them all. Variety is the spice of life after all.

    20. I don't think so, because I've always gone for things like them ever since I was a child. I feel as if my gender may have more to do with my choices, though, because I don't think that being a teen has as much to do with my desire to have a Puki than my being female.
