Does your age reflect on the dolls you purchase?

Oct 22, 2005

    1. im a businessman...age 34...althought i look older than what iam.but my dreams were with my dolls ... a far away fantasy world, away from stressfull reallife.

    2. I am in my 40's and as far as my age reflecting my in my dolls I don't think so.
I have all sizes at present and they range from fantasy type dolls and attitudes to just girls and boys in period outfits/goth outfits/etc.
I sew clothing for them so depending on my mood will determine what type of outfit they are presently wearing.

    3. I'm 20 and I just simply wanted a male doll, that was anatomically correct, since I was a small child.

I'm drawn towards 17-28 looking boys, and I like the more realistic Korean sculpts.... (Iple, Lati and Migi)

Only problem is, they only started existing not even 10 years ago. So it's like my childhood all over again, except this time, with hot boys.

      :sweat

I think my dolls reflect my age... since I'm making the dolls look the age of guys I like.

    4. Everyone at my house (myself, st.Coward, & Orasteele) is 25-26. We all like mature, sexy looking boys! (Well, men- general age in appearance is late 20's, mid-30's.) But we also have a set of MSD's made to be older teens, cause they're adorable.

I don't see us buying young-looking MSD's. My girl has the larger-busted DOC body. We aren't so fond of 'kid' characters...but eventually we'll probably get a few tinies because they're TOO CUTE!

    5. I find it's based on personal tastes rather than age. I love older looking men so i tend to prefer my boys to look masculine and gentlemanly x3

And my girls? They have to be sexy.

    6. I'm 28, have a live in partner and yet still feel compelled to fill the house with sexy boys, Soom, Dollshe, Dollstown, etc....I don't think its got anything to do with my age. If they're still around in 20 years...maybe then we should talk about my Mrs Robinson complex.

I do have one girl and one on the way...maybe i think they're competition :)

    7. I don't know... but it doesn't for me.

I'm 18, and although Marguerite is a similar age to me (she won't tell me yet...) she's the sort of teen that's had to grow up too fast, so she's very mature and a very cynical.

But I plan to get a tiny soon, just for the cute factor. and the size ratio to the SD is so adorable :D

    8. I'm 40, and most of my dolls I would say are in their twenties. I'm more drawn to the mature sculpts rather than childlike dolls, but I always preferred adult dolls when I was a kid. I am getting some 'younger' dolls soon as two of my dolls are having a family.
When I first decided to get a BJD, I was planning for her to be younger and to wear goth/punk type clothes, but but since she got her boyfriend they have just plunged headlong into cosy domesticity. Not sure why that happened!

    9. i am almost 14 with a CP soony and a puki sugar... maybe it's the whole anime thing....big eyes...=3

    10. I'm 18, and new to the hobby but so far, I think I am drawn to the younger looking dolls- I like dolls that look youngish so I can give them an older age :D (I think that's because I don't really look 18 all the time- people have asked me if I was a sophmore in high school Y.Y)
But I also wouldn't necessarily think of my dolls as children- I mean maybe a little, but while I'm terrible with real children, I'm great with dolls XD

    11. I'm 55 and for many years (About 18  ) I was a single mom. All that time I just wouldn't have been able to even afford a doll and besides I was busy with my son.

I thought I didn't want a child doll (even my tinies are adults) but then I fell in love with CH Ange Ai Uri so now I have a little girl. My theory was that I didn't want a child doll because I was done with little children. But then again I would like to have grandkids.

Perhaps it doesn't have so much to do with age as it has to do with where you are in your development if you know what I mean.

    12. I'm 26, but I don't think my age necessarily affected my doll choice. I'm open to any type of doll because I enjoy creating different types of characters. I think I'd be just as interested in owning a fairy-like mini as I would a mature boy sculpt. The type of doll I want usually just depends on the kind of creative mind I'm in when I make a purchase.

    13. I'm 21, but the dolls I like usually range from older to really young. I like the whole spectrum. I think it just depends on what someone is attracted to, whether it's how pretty the doll is or that the doll reminds you of someone dear, maybe even looks like your ideal partner. I don't think it's really age related, more just personal preference. ^^

    14. i'm 19 and a college student, the dolls i tend to gravitate toward are primarily male and in the 14-24 age range. i'm currently waiting for a msd dollmore kid aiden that i will mod to make him look older. the size i like best is the msd ^^ i guess my preference is linked to my age but i've never really thought about it myself.

    15. Well, I am 46 and I don't have/like kids..but not sure if that translates into what kind of dolls I like/buy... I have tried several tinies and they aren't for me..but I do have one..he's a little devil named Horny..so he's just cute..all red and nekkid..lol
but I only have 4 big boys more mature looking and my big girls tend to be more mature/sexy. My minis are all girlz and my Posse...they are in their 20's..and I have a Dollstown who is 7yr..so not sure if my age has anything to do with it..just depends on the mold..:)

    16. Well, all my dolls are based on characters of mine, but my characters tend to be similar to me in several ways. I have almost no tone deaf characters (I'm a singer). Most of my characters are around my age, some younger, some older. Some of them are variable ages, for instance Tohru and Shuichi exist in my head both as high schoolers (where their story started) and as adults (when they were revisited in another story set in the same world). Thus they are simultaneously 16/17 and 27/28. I expect I'll have "young and old" sets of clothing for them as well. O-Kishi is quite old, since he's not human, but I have no idea how old (over a century, less than five centuries). Michi and Charl are both college age currently. Deanna and Mal are in their early twenties but not in college, and they act more mature than their age.

I find myself more attracted to girl dolls than boy dolls, although I'm not sure why. I think I idealize them a bit, make them into women I would prefer to be, and I can't do that with boys. Shuichi is my soul mate (in the sense that he's how I would want to be if I was male), so he's different. And the other guys are either there to be companions for the girls or I just feel they're necessary (I do want O-Kishi).

I intend to get one child doll, for the sole purpose of being Shuichi's daughter (with his partner Richi). She exists in my head as a grown up because that's how I formed her (I created her for a high school roleplay and decided after the fact to use Shuichi & Richi as her two papas, and then she just sort of wormed her way into their story retroactively), but I think it would be adorable to have my two boy dolls cuddle their daughter doll. <3

    17. I think it's different for everyone. I myself am 19, and also like the more mature looking dolls. I have seen some really cute tiny dolls. But I still prefer the mature ones. I think all my doll on my wishlist are pretty mature. But yah. I'm sure there are older people who like younger looking dolls, and so on and so forth. ^__^

    18. I'm thrilled to see there's a wide age range of everyone! I don't nor never will have kids but I don't have dolls to be my children. I think it's something else, but I haven't quite figured it out yet. It's just fun right now. maybe they keep me company? I'm older than most, in my 50's, but I also don't think my age reflects on the type of dolls I have. I started collecting dolls I had as a child but when I saw the bjd's, my loyalty totally switched. I can see why people develop personalities for them...they can be very lifelike.

    19. I'm 24, and I tend to be attracted to older-looking sculpts. I don't see myself wanting a doll whose character/appearance was more than a couple years my junior. I just really like the mature sculpts, I guess. And I don't particularly care for children... Now, I *could* see myself getting a tiny anthro type doll, but that's about the extent of it.

    20. I don't think my age is reflected in my dolls. I was 15/16 when I got into the hobby and even then, my dolls were older than me in age. Usually I don't even think of their ages, but when I do they're usually somewhere around 23-25 for most of the 60cms, except for my super old vampire, and 13-16 for my 42cms. Though I suppose they might start reflecting my own age, as unintentional as it is, now that's I myself am 20.
