Does your age reflect on the dolls you purchase?

Oct 22, 2005

    1. I'm 27 and i really like mature looking dolls. I really like mature mini sized dolls but they are few and far between. I don't think it has anything to do with my age but how i grew up. When i was little i played with barbie dolls. I really hated baby dolls :)

    2. I prefer mature sculpts, not childlike ones..even as a kid i didn't like "baby dolls" I liked Babs..{barbie} and her ungodly meausurements.:)

    3. I have a doll who has grown up with me. His first version was 16 (I was 20 when I got him), but nowadays he's "somewhere in his twenties" (so potentially the same age as me). I didn't even realize what I was doing until a couple of upgrades later when I stepped back and took a look at how he'd changed. Maybe the most telltale sign was his last upgrade, when I switched from SD10 to SD13 right after I graduated from college and got a full-time job. That certainly wasn't what I was thinking at the time, but it sure looks clear now, lol.

    4. I'm a little over 50 :) I LOVE sexy beautiful BJDs, prefer 60cm(or larger) females, my daughter(over 30) collects the boys. I love to dress them in goth/punk clothing(I sew some of them myself). I also have the Elfdoll catsy(I like cats). I love the Japanese style of dress. I don't know about the age thing....Maybe I'm going into my second childhood OR maybe I never grew up!! I just know I really enjoy playing/dressing them!

    5. I usually fall in love over a face, the body comes second, so everything else comes after that.
The only dolls I ever bought for the bodies are my Shinydoll, I was so curious to see the body (worth it, BTW, amazing) and the head was a no brainer since one was an elf (all elves is good elves), and my Machina, because I got to hold one and the body was so amazing I had to have one.

    6. I'm 24 (with no kids of couse) and my oldest boy is around 21. We have some things in common (at least with my old me). My other two (wanabe) girls are around 10 and 16. With the little one I have no things in common but the old one and me are pretty alike: she has her own style, doesn't depend on others, is stuborn and likes money and candies *0*

    7. I'm in my twenties, and my doll is seven. I specifically went out of my way to get an MSD with a childish body sculpt (hence she's Volks). Older dolls just don't appeal to me very much; I definitely wouldn't want one my age. My first doll was a young teenager, and she was very beautiful, but ultimately not what I wanted in a doll.

Honestly, for me I don't necessarily think that it's anything about my age as much as about my opinions. I don't want a doll that looks like me. I don't want a doll for a best friend. I also -don't- want one that looks like a baby or a toddler; I have friends with real kids that age. The doll isn't a child-substitute for me--I am not particularly fond of kids. I wanted a doll that was cute, that I could create a cute personality for, that I could dress in cute clothing, and that I could spoil. Perhaps I may or may not have wanted this in a doll at a different age, but generally that's the kind of thing I personally associate with dolls. :3

    8. I like both childlike and mature dolls. My current doll is an adult male. My minifee is very versatile but I like to see her as a young budding lady around the age of 13. My Soom tiny definitely is more childish.

Being 19, I think my dolls don't reflect my age because I sometimes don't reflect my own age. ^^

    9. I am in my 50's and I think my choice of dolls has to do with my life than my age. I am the mother of a 17 year old boy. Since I am the sole female in our household (5'6" to husband & son over 6' each) overwhelmed by testosterone-6 of my 7 dolls are female. All are mature-late teens to 30 something in looks. They all dress differently-some historic, some fantasy/sci fi, some modern-it depends on the personality of the doll.

    10. I'm a 20 year old female, and I really love mature realistic-looking dolls who look to be in their mid to late 20's. Then again, that is the age their characters are at, so it is understandable. Their clothing style is currently late 1920's/early 1930's style, although one doll is rather timeless so I can put him in just about anything I please. I also have a bunch of more stylized, fantasy-esque dolls on my wishlist. *shrug*

    11. I am 24 and have always collected dolls, mostly BJDs for the last 4 1/2 years or so but before that I has a similar look I liked. I've never liked fashion dolls and don't like BJDs that remind me of them. I tend to like younger more cutesy looking girl BJDs the best. I don't see that changing with age.

    12. I'm 21 right now and the ages of my dolls vary from about 2 to 40. I have 4 SDs, 2 MSDs and 3 tinies with one 30 cm one on the way.
I don't think it reflects my age very much but I wonder how this will look like in 10-20 years. :)

    13. I love both mature looking and baby dolls......but as I am growing older, I seem to favor younger looking ones more......

    14. I don't know if our age affects our choices for more mature molds or kid molds dolls... I'm 42 and I have a 7 yo daughter and 22 yo son and and I have 8 BJDs and they are between 4 yo, 7 yo, 10 yo and 14 yo. I don't have space at home to have big BJD as MSD and SD size dolls so my older dolls (20 yo) are not BJD but Momokos : P!

    15. I'm 22, and my age sort of reflects the dolls I buy. I tend to like the "little girl" dolls because I can dress them up in cute outfits. A doll that looks like someone my age wouldn't be as fun for me because I would be tempted to dress it in styles I'm more drawn to, and since that's already how I dress myself, it would feel somewhat redundant, if that makes any sense.

However, there are many "adult" sculpts that I really like! It's just a matter of time before I get one of those really, haha.

    16. I'm not sure if it is my age, or the experiences of my life that attract me to certain dolls. What I loved about the bjds is that there are so many that look like beautiful adults (human & otherwise), and are amazing when photographed. I have never seen anything like them. I love art, and these dolls fit into so many aspects of that: sculpture, photography, painting, fashion, myth/mythology, the list goes on.

    17. I will be honest. My age does affect the dolls i pick because i like anime and the really colorful outfits (not lolita) and im really not that into adult dolls i like them between the age of tiny to 18 thats when there the most versitile to me lol. Like my soon to be dolly dolfie dream yukino lol.

    18. Most of my characters that end up dolls are in their teens to early twenties, nearest my own age, so yes I do prefer youngerish looking dolls.

    19. I guess dolls to me, are a way to express different types of characters/personalities. The incoming FL Bisou is going to be a reflection of my inner child (if she decides to be that way! LOL) Aine is my OC and is roughly around my age (she still hasn't "told" me...)
I guess, when one gets older, the dolls mature with one (or in another case) embrace one's inner child. :)

Not only can one's age effect what dolls you adopt and create, it depends on the number too! I am a younger member at seventeen- this affects what dolls I purchase. I have to start focusing on saving for college and looking into getting a job so this dictates what I can and can't purchase!

    20. has nothing to do with my age, at least I don't think it does. My dolls are aged all over the place. I have tinies to SD. I enjoy realistic dolls to fantasy dolls. I am a bit of a SciFi nut and the dolls play more into the character that exists within my imagination. I am closer to 50 these days and I have a child who is less than 10 years old. AnnMarie
