Does your age reflect on the dolls you purchase?

Oct 22, 2005

    1. Well, after reading some of these posts I sure do feel old!lol! At 39 I have just started collecting bjd's and all of them are tiny dolls. I've never thought about what age they are....maybe as I become more educated about these dolls age will matter but right now it doesn't.

    2. I'm 26 now and I think of my doll as my little sisters.:) I think my age does not reflect at all.

    3. I agree!! I haven't really thought about the age of my girl. She's in an adolescent body, so I guess shes around 13-16yo...?
I do know that she is level headed beyond her years, whatever they are. She likes to switch between goth and loli whenever she feels like it, because she can. She's quietly confident. She doesn't take herself too seriously.

Pretty much what I would have wanted for myself in my adolescence *lol*

I'm 26, unmarried, no children, currently career focussed. Don't think that my age has much to do with my choice ^_^

    4. The dolls I fall in love with are ones that look like my age and someone I can have a date with :))

    5. I'm 24. I guess the way I feel about dolls is a mix of how I feel about toys/playmates/pets/projects. Not children, siblings or lovers like some people have stated.

I think when I was a teenager and more boy-crazy, I might have gotten a boy doll. But now I am older and have a BF and am not so boy-obsessed, so I'm more interested in girl dolls because I like how girl bodies look more, from an asexual POV. :3

The little dolls, I don't feel like they'll ever be my thing. Babies are not my thing at all, and even if they were, I think I'd like the full-grown-looking dolls more because I like the bodies. By full grown I mean anything about 12+ looking, as long as they're not disgustingly cutesy, because their proportions are adultish by then.

I'm also not really drawn to the older female dolls. The "sexy" mature ones that look like they should be wearing business suits or something. XD; Too intimidating, maybe?;; I like some older male ones because they have interesting faces, but mostly I like younger-faced BJDs overall.

    6. I believe so, yes. I'm 19 now and my dolls represent older characters from some of my stories (with Adeon being an exception since he's a mix of several of my OC's actually). These characters (more or less) keep on aging with me, so will my dolls - to a certain point at least. Atm we're all still kinda in the teenage range with Adeon and Lace being 17 and Matt being 14 or 15 (no one knows for sure 8D) but the boy I'm planing next is gonna be in his mid - or late twenties.

I was actually kinda surprised when I realized, I'm not into tinys at all. I still suffer from the 'Au Pair disease' .. ("Oh my goodness, a child! Aaaaaw!!") but I don't want anything child-like in my slowly growing crew right now. Maybe in one or two years. The new kid could be doll-daddy material @.@

    7. Yes, my age has an influence on my dolls stories. I'm strongly into mature BJDs, 27-35 or so. This means my characters are mature enough to be strong and independent. I may say that I would be comfortable with them as my friends or acquaintances (though I have a lot of friends among people).

    8. For me, I know that when I started the hobby, I was totally in love with Volks. I started liking poytu, closed eyed dolls.

Now that I'm older, I find I still like the dolls with same look, but more mature/realisitic. This could be just as much about the introduction of more and newer companies throughout the years as it could do with my age/own growing maturity, but generally, my tastes have not changed, but they have matured. If that makes sense.

    9. Almost 19 here, and got into BJD's at 16. Still going strong with the love of good looking boy dolls, no matter the size, but lately I've been loving on smaller cuter dolls [esp girls]. Even though I've got a boyfriend, it doesn't stop me from wanting attractive/mature looking boy dolls either. I also dislike children...

But as the type of girl I am, I've just got that addiction to all things cute and squee-worthy. That includes cute YoSDs to smexy SDs. So I don't know how my age affects them really, since I just like attractive things.

    10. Maybe it depends on your personal 'style' ?

I'm almost 14 and my weak spot is def for cute little tinies & yo-sds.
I think i like them because i'm 'into' hello kitty, animal hoodies, cute hairstyles & all those cute stuff ya know?

      :D

    11. I'm 15 and I tend to look at younger dolls mostly (yo-sd size or very young-faced msds). I thinks its cause I know how much puberty sucks right now, so most of the dolls I like are frozen before that happens xD idk, thats mostly just subconscious I'm sure. I also think its because I'm younger so I can identify better with the personalities of younger dolls and bond with them better. Don't be fooled, I'm still saving up for an SD too, have ONLY young dolls would make me feel lame. I like variety

    12. I'm 42 just started collecting BJDs and only like the more mature looking dolls.

I have no children and have never wanted any. I therefore don't want BJDs that I may view as children.

I prefer the look of the more mature ones as I feel I can appreciate them more.

    13. My questions is: Does your age reflect on which dolls attract you?

I am not sure if age has anything to do with it for me, but I have never liked baby dolls, and a lot of Yo-Sd types look like babies to me, and even some larger sizes look like tall bodies with baby faces. I had one baby doll as a child (to make up for the fact that my older sister had an American Girl doll) and while I liked her, what I really wanted was an American Girl (older looking doll, to me anyway). Then when I got a bit older (maybe 6 years) I loved having Barbies and dressing them up (I liked some of Barbie's "little sisters" but Barbie herself was the best). So I think I may have always tended toward older looking dolls. Though older then (what 6 years?) depended on when.

I have two small dolls (a tiny and a Elfdoll flower elf: super tiny) I love them, but I don't intend to buy any other small BJDs. My first doll (my getting my feet wet doll) was the tiny, Colette. And I got the Tulie for Christmas. I don't mind that Tulie is tiny and looks young because she is a flower and fits into my dolls stories as such, but I kind of wish Colette was bigger, at least MSD, though I can never get rid of her because she is cute, and was my first.

Because I am a full grown women (almost 22, and yes I feel old :|) I really appreciate mature girl dolls with shapely figures, similar to my own. I am even considering looking for a Soom Cass (whose sculpt looks older then me) because she is such a beautiful older women. I really don't have a desire for boy dolls at this point except as a mature companion/lover to my dolls (because I have a wonderful boyfriend myself) I don't like any molds yet because they all look so young and girly; or if mature, really ugly to me. I want my woman dolls to have a real and handsome man in their life.

And as a side note my doll collecting tastes have matured with my age; pre-teen (Barbie), teen (Blythe & Pullip), Older teen (Ellwoyne & Tonner), and finally young adult BJD.

    14. interesting question. I think personally that my age (I'm 40+) does influence and reflect in my doll purchases. My preference is for the mature sculpts and bodies that have a 'fashion' look to them. I'm not interested in child/youthful dolls (probably because I have 3 children).

    15. Nope, I don't think so. My dolls are all youngish (the oldest are 17, my MSDs, then my 27cm is 12, and my anthros don't have ages) and I'm 22. I would be less inclined to get a much older adult doll, but I think that's largely because I wouldn't have as much fun dressing them. It'd seem odd to have a 35 or 40 year old doll dressing in trendy fashion that is designed for younger people.

    16. Age does play into factor because our brains are not fully developed until age 25 with the completion of the frontal lobe and consequently with that completion, it comes with go rationality. I also do think that heredity and environment plays a role into making a person who he or she is and consequently, this gives a person his or her character into deciding the character of the doll. So, what I prefer at age 10 might not be what I prefer at age 20.

    17. I like all sizes of dolls =3 And I'm 16.

I happen to hate children too, so I don't think the age has anything to do with it.

    18. Well, I'm 21 and I don't believe my age depicts the dolls I want. I do, however, try to be different with each doll that I plan on getting. But what I try to do is have a feel for different sizes of bjds. I guess what attracts me is a doll's facial and body structure. I mean I've seen doll joints that just turn me off to the whole idea, so I get something I'm satisfied all around with.

    19. I'm almost of legal age where I live but I really like the mature/ larger boys. And yet my friend who is only a year younger than me loves pukis and other small dolls. I don't think age has anything to do with it.

    20. I don't think it depends so much on the age but on the character of the owner how you choose and see your doll.
If someone loves kids or wished to have some he would probably love tiny or BB dolls. If someone would like to have a hot boyfriend he/she would choose a boy doll in an appropriate age.
I don't have my doll yet but I already see her as my companion. So I chose a doll who looks kinda like my age and she will probably look the way I wished I would look (well walking around in bloomer and petticoat is not always appropriate nowadays). Also I chose a doll in MSD size probably because I am a smaller girl myself. I don't really like the bigger dolls ^^
