Does your age reflect on the dolls you purchase?

Oct 22, 2005

    1. I think that my age has nothing to do with my dolls' age... as I wouldn’t want my dolls to be 46 like me!
My dolls don’t really have exact age.
However, Kiyomi appears to be in her early 20's.
Although my elf Aëlyn appears to be sixteen or seventeen, she is ageless like a fairy.
They reflect the innocence and the ability to wonder and believe in magic that fade away with time going on but that unconsciously I want to keep. They probably have the age I enjoyed the most and look like I would have like to be…
I prefer SD size and like some MSD.
I don't personally want to own a tiny but I enjoy looking at pictures of them.

    2. Hmm good question.

In 2006 I was looking at all the expensive dolls in despair even though they were out of my range and to be honest none of them suited me so I am glad that I didn't buy one then.

2010 I am just going for what I like on the provision that I can have it if I can afford it, and am thinking about putting money by for more expensive dolls, but some of the cheaper Chinese and Korean dolls are rather tempting. I don't care to own one of the expensive dolls just because some think that they are better coz they have a higher price and they're like Soom or Luts or Volks. I just wanna buy a doll I really like regardless of price and stuff all that dolly-status poop that sometimes creeps into the hobby (although I am glad to say that I have only seen a tiny amount of doll willy waving, and mostly on the Yaoi gallery threads...). ;)

      Phil.

    3. I have been looking at DM Lusion. This question made me wonder if older people prefer this doll (I am 53) since it looks like a child. If any young people see this post, let me know what you think.

    4. For me, it just depends on how old the doll's sculpt looks, or how old it seems to be. For example, the B&G Elf Nailo I have on layaway is probably going to be either nineteen or twenty in elven years, but closer to three hundred or four hundred in human years.

    5. I'm going to be 24 (eek!), have no kids and am still in college. My dolls have been all ages, different races/ species and both genders. Perhaps interests better reflect what someone prefers a doll to resemble/be.

    6. I don't really know. :? I'm not sure in which sense you meant.

I'm an 18 year old girl with short dark hair, my dolls are 10 or 12 year old girls with long light colored hair. So we're not alike in that sense, but we're not universes apart, either. ;) They dress in frilly lolita style clothing, I dress in Korean street style (If I had to find it in the BJD world, think of Nine9Style clothing).

So I can't really say if my age reflects on the things I purchase for my dolls or not. Unless you mean price-wise or something? :?

    7. i have no idea if my age affects my dolls. my mood yes though.

    8. Well I'm 19 but I haven't even thought about it affecting my future dolls. But it's a good question. I wonder how it will be when I'll be older :)

    9. well I'm 23 (in a few days) and Freya is 22, my next few dolls will be around early 20's. They are all goths like me :)

    10. Does your age reflect on which dolls attract you?
I prefer face sculpts that look more like actual people than the gigantic eyes anime style. I also prefer taller dolls. Yet, I plan on creating a multi-ethnic Addams Family, so two of my dolls will be children. I wouldn't consider any of the dolls as my children, as I don't view dolls as being able to interact with me. Do older doll owners see their dolls as just dolls? If so, then that reflects my age (mid-twenties).

How does your age affect the dolls you enjoy? How does it affect the style of dress they wear?
I might play with them, and give them basic personalities but in the end they're still just dolls to me. My dolls will be fantasy or goth garbed. I don't know if that says anything about my age.

    11. Yes. Usually its on my boy. I dress really formal and I kinda avoid him looking hippy. I want him to look mature, which is what I'm looking for an ideal man.

    12. I prefer more mature looking female dolls and don't like the younger looking dolls.
I have no children and don't intend to, so I think it is my age that makes me want adult looking dolls.

    13. I just recently turned 20... and I don't know why my first doll was a tiny one because I can't really stand children. :/ But he's just so cute ... and quiet and not annoying. :'D But generally I guess I like younger looking male dolls, age 10~20 or so, appearance wise. I wonder if this will change in the future. D:

    14. I'm not sure, but I'm 31 and all but 2 of my dolls are 19 or over. I have a preference to mature looking dolls, but have a weak spot for cute YOs. Maybe it's age-related with the mature dolls, and my biological clock with regards to YOs? hahaha.

    15. With one of my dolls, my age does indeed affect the issue. She's my infamous DiM Winny. She's a surrogate baby for me since I am now passed having children. She keeps my biological clock from yelling in my ear. LOL! And my real kids know it, too. My daughter laughs that I treat Winny better than I do her. Then she runs off with her to play.

    16. I guess it would make more sense for the younger BJD-fans between the ages of 13-17 to prefer the cuter, more anime-like dolls.. but I -15 years old- actually prefer the more realistic and mature dolls. Small, realistic eyes, proportionate bodies, etc. I don't really suppose age should make too much a difference in choice as personal taste would, really.. but that's just my thought of the subject. XD;

    17. Does your age reflect on which dolls attract you?
I don't believe so. I mean, I first got into BJD's when I was 13 years old, not actively getting into the hobby until after Otakon ((So July maybe, when ever I joined the site)) of last year when I was sixteen. I'm seventeen now and my taste in the dolls I like hasn't changed much, if at all. Only difference between now and then being I actually own a doll, a tiny which I never thought I could own and keep, and I'm currently in the process of getting an another doll. As long as a doll is beautiful in my opinion, it'll attract me like a moth to a flame. Those anime like dolls I see so many people with, despite the fact I like anime, actually weird me out a bit. I don't like them, at all. But that's just what I don't like opposed to another person's preference. But who knows, as I grow older this could very well change. I might only like tinies, I might only like MSD's. I'll just have to wait and see.

How does your age affect the dolls you enjoy? How does it affect the style of dress they wear?
I don't think its so much my age, but more so personal preference. I mean, some 17 year olds might not stand tinies, but I love them. Some 17 year old might not like MSD's or SD's, but I still love them no matter what. So that's a preference thing over an age thing. As for style of dress...Well yeah, that's probably affected by my age. I'm in that stage, actually I've been in this stage for awhile, where I like visual kei, gothic as well as different types of lolita like clothing. If I could afford it for myself, trust me I would buy it. If I could afford it for my girls trust me, they would have a lot of it. But right now, they are pretty much forced to wear what I can find them. It's not quite as lolita-like as I would like, but its still cute stuff and that's all that matters.

    18. I haven't really "assigned" ages to any of my dolls. I have sd size, msd size, and tiny. I tend to like a certain doll because of the face, regardless of the size and I don't sit back and think "Okay, this doll is 6 or 15 or 105 years old". To me, they are all ageless, I guess. Wish I was, too!

    19. In terms of age group for BJDs, I don't think my own age reflects what dolls I purchase. I'm 20 at the moment, and my two slim MSDs are both around 17 years old. I do want to get an adorable Littlefee Ante as well as a Volks Elena or Supia Rosy...so there's some variety there. However, I tend to dress them up in styles that I can see myself wanting to wear :sweat so in terms of style, there is some similarities.

    20. I´m not sure if my age reflects on the dolls i purchase.. i´m 23 and my little sister is 14 .. so there are about 10 years between us and we love the same dolls ^__^"""
although i have to say, as i mentioned before that i do think (for me) it´s not about how old you are but more how long you are into that hobby ? As for me.. my dolls are growing with me.. i´ve started with pullips, am now collecting msd and who knows how big they might be in one year ? x)
But of course my character does reflect.. i like my girls natural and cute <33
