Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Does your doll "smoke"? Why?

Jan 18, 2006

    1. I don't smoke. I'm very sensitive to the smell and there are days when cigarette smoke simply will make me choke. Awful. Also, I see it as a waste of money. I consider smoking as just another way of burning money - and if you simply took the money and burned it instead of smoking, it would be a lot healthier and the result (concerning my money) would be the same.

Does Luken smoke? Probably. Why? Cos he can and he's a bit of an asshole who doesn't care about others who might mind him blowing smoke into their faces.

    2. I'm one of the many here who are very allergic to smoke. Whenever my little sister comes home from her mom's house, she goes straight to the shower and laundry because her mom is a chain smoker. I'm an inhaler-carrying asthmatic, and there's nothing fun about the attacks that come with walking through smoke!

At the same time, though, if someone chooses to smoke- that's their decision. I have many characters who smoke, including my T.Elf Sha who's on his way home. (He was also raised in Japan, but I'll bypass that whole aspect of the conversation for now. XD) Same chain-smoker mom above is always courteous enough to either not smoke when I visit or step outside and chat with us through the open door. It's all about how you act. I see no difference between a doll smoking or a doll drinking. If having a glass of wine with dinner is considered classy by some, then I don't see why an occasional cigarette would cause consternation.

Hello, my name is Britain, and I'm allergic to cigarette smoke...and I think beautiful men smoking is sexy. ;D

    3. I smoke, but my Cera doesn't. Her soon-to-arrive partner, however, does. It has little to nothing to do with the fact that I smoke, it's just in her character.

    4. Now, I smoke, but that has no bearing on my dollies at all.

Clara smokes because she's Clara. Bernice doesn't because she's Bernice. Moishe does because he's Moishe.

It's all reflective of personality. ;)

    5. I don't smoke (simply for the reason that I don't want to die early and want to have health issues due to it) but my doll (Monclova) "used to".
Why? I think it's characterizing. It brings the mood. . . Somehow. =P

    6. Tamas doesn't smoke, mostly because he was born in 1380 before the British picked it up and has never acquired the habit. His sons Shane and Mattias don't smoke, Mattias is a fitness freak, he has the vapors just contemplating taking a ibuprofen for muscle aches!

Shane, I dunno, he hasn't told me much about himself yet.

Ching smokes on occasion, he's Chinese and looks good with those long curved pipes. Ching reads minds... smoking opium helps block out other people's thoughts.

Nicco died long before tobacco was imported to England, but his reincarnated self Nicholas runs so he doesn't want to mess up his lungs by smoking.

    7. First of all, in my doll universe it's always 1927 and when it comes to knowlage of the bad effects tobacco has on the body it is, well, limited for my characters. ^_^

Alessandro, for example, is a chain smoker. He started out as an unskilled labourer in an Italian harbour and taking this part of his character as well as the time into consideration it would be a bit strange if he did not smoke.

Dante as well as Daphne smokes occasionally, usually at different kind of garherings, because it's simply a part of the custom just as drinking a little brandy, eating cake or cheese and fruit et c.

    8. My doll smokes cause he believes in props that will enhance his bad boyishness!
      xD

    9. My guy won`t smoke. Just because.. Idk. I`m not interested in it myself.
But if I ever needed a cigerette for a certain photoshoot, I wouldn`t be opposed to the idea.

    10. Ugh, no.

Mine don't and it puts me off dolls seeing them posed with cigarettes... but then it puts me off people seeing them smoke so at least that's conistent.

No, I don't understand why people would want their dolls to smoke any more than I understand why people would want to smoke.

      Teddy

    11. I hate people to smoke, especially in front of me...
But I dont mind if my doll "smoke"~
the prop is quite well done actually~~~~~

    12. Smoking, now, just puts me in mind of the old days like the 1920's through the 1950's and the movies of the gangsters and mafia men.

To me, smoking today isn't what it was before and although I see people still smoking today, I think to myself "Are people still doing that?" I think that it's becoming something that people 'used to do.'

I was considering whether my gambling vampire should smoke or not but I think since his storyline has him falling in love that maybe he won't. Then again if he does smoke, he will never have nicotine stained teeth or foul tabacco breath.

I am a former smoker. I smoked for 7 years, I quite about 6 years ago and I'm very proud of it. Pretend/fake/implied smoking doesn't bother me, though I do look at actual smoking now as an unhealthy AND disgusting habit. Of course, I do miss my metabolism, I was much thinner when I was a smoker. But I would never go back to it. I don't think smoking dolls should bother you so much. But we all have things we feel strongly about. But you shouldn't base your purchases on the advertising all the time either. Obviously, your version of the doll wouldn't smoke.

      :candycane

    13. I don't smoke or hang too close to anyone smoking (it does bad things to my insides XD)

But if I thought smoking would fit into my dolls characters, I don't mind using a prop.

I wouldn't have all my dolls smoking though...I just don't see my little Kaname or delicate Yue holding a cig somehow.

    14. A handfull of my dolls smoke. The ones who do are an artist and some musicians, all of which are supposed to be japanese. The artist I leave up to stress and the fact that he actually just looks kinda cool holding a cig, the musicians, that can be blamed on the fact that practially ALL of my favorite Japanese musicians smoke.

    15. I don't like being around people smoking. But I don't mind seeing it, especially with dolls. A doll "smoking" is not doing any harm to me. I only have 1 doll at the moment and he doesn't smoke. With these dolls, I feel there is a lot more freedom...If I chose to let my doll "smoke" then I don't see it as a big deal.
where is the creator of this thread...

    16. Lol, now..
I smoke.. allot. I already smoked before I got into the hobby xD But, yeah. Rosh is just like me in that way, smoking insanely. My girl Maii smokes also, but not much, she's comparable with a party smoker xD
Aaaand, my other characters don't actually.. Because I just don't see them with cigarettes in their mouths. ..
(I don't smoke around my or other people's dolls xD I'm a very polite smoker IMO.. :'DDD)

    17. I don't smoke, but a few of my dolls do. It's simply due to the fact that the characters they are based on(which are all original characters of mine) smoke. It's just who they are.

    18. When I received Joshua in the mail from Dollmore, his parent company decided to send me a little cigarette as a gift. As of now none of my dolls smoke (especially not Joshua) so I'm gonna hang on to it for now. I do not smoke and it gives me headaches when I'm around secondhand smoke for a while.

    19. Well I have an order in and it includes cigs.
What can I say... my boys and I are filthy and we hate people...:|

One of my favorite quotes is by Mother Teresa:
"When you judge people you have less time to love them"

      :)

    20. I'm an ex-smoker and i still sneak out for a fag once a year at least. I quit because it was damaging my health, but i don't think it's a filthy habit as long as you are not blowing smoke on someone's face.

One of dolls smokes a lot. Why? Well, the character does so the doll had too as well. I don't think doll pictures with fags are promoting smoking, lets face it, they are dolls and can't die of it. I find fags quite charming and stylish if they weren't so horrible to the lungs and had a bad smell... so, since it's a fake fag, my doll can smoke and only have the good side of it.
