Does your doll "smoke"? Why?

Jan 18, 2006

    1. One of the ladies on the tiny forum has a banji lady tiny who smokes. And the reason she smokes is because she is from another era. An era of decadence, around the 1920’s though she will visit our era once in a while. But those habits are tough to kick. She does try to slow down when she is here though, I’ve noticed ;P Love that doll!

    2. I used to smoke and every once in awhile I'll light up one, but otherwise I just don't get back into it. And I do have a character in mind that will "smoke", but hadn't gotten him/them yet ^^; So I don't judge, as it does give a certain..look to the character. but yeah... ^^;

    3. My characters (which will sooner or later be in doll form) smoke because that's just part of their personality. One of them is kinda a laid-back guy, and he's pretty much immortal and will never die so he sees no reason not to smoke, it's just something relaxing about it. Another one of my characters, Asou, is (inside only) angsty and tends to show himself as a bad-ass who doesn't care about anything, so he also smokes. Lastly there's Key, who smokes to relieve the tons of stress he has accumulated over the years from a difficult life. Poor Key. ;~;

    4. here here

There is far too much judgement on this issue.

      derk

    5. I don't smoke. I can't be around people who smoke, I have an allergy to some of the ingredients used to make cigarettes and the smallest whiff of smoke causes me to start wheezing heavily, coughing, watery sticky eyes, and my throat starts to swell shut. I've had several VERY near emergencies from being exposed to cigarettes and I have sprays and inhalers with me at all times in case I am exposed. I have had family that has died from smoking related illness. I HATE the habit.

      That being said...

I will never ever judge someone for smoking, it's their right if they want to and who am I to impose my views? I don't expect people to dance around me if they're smoking, I will simply position myself upwind or leave. I don't think it's so much that people think it's "cool" it's just one of those things people do. From what I understand smoking for many people I know is very relaxing, they take the time to just sit and think.

I have a character who smokes... now mind you she doesn't smoke cigarettes... she's a pot smoker. But the little joints I've made for her could be construed a cigarettes lol.

Yes it's a bad habit, but dollies don't have to worry about such things ;)

    6. I smoked then quit, but the character my doll Seth is a smoker, When i get my other dolls wont smoke ^.^

    7. I gotta admit that I think smoking is disgusting too, very. But I do not hate on people that smoke, it's their choice. I have also the right to choose if I want to smoke or don't, and I do not. never have, never will.

I have one doll that smokes and I think it's an important part of him, his character and his story. It's a thing that humanizes him, it doesn't make him cool, but it's a part that shows, when people are going through rough or stressful times, they result to smoking, because it calms them down. How I do not know myself, but it is a fact in this day and age.
This character lost his girlfriend to cancer, moved away from home just as soon as he could, started in the modeling business. All stressful and somewhat sorrowful things.
And in the modeling business, well smoking is a suppliment for eating, instead of eating you smoke, dangerous, but still much of a fact. But still he's very torn, since he is fully aware that smoking causes cancer, something that brought him much grief and yet he cannot surpress this compulsery to smoke. It relaxes him.

If that's not human, then I dunno what is.

    8. My 2 NNR07 vamps both smoke.

Nahemiah ended up as a smoker because when his body arrived I took one look at his right hand and said "well theres a cigarette holding pose"

Malachii kind of followed suit in a case of "monkey see, monkey do".... as in that he is temporarily borrowing 'Miahs body and thought he would give it a try.

I don't think they are too worried about health risks, being immortal and all ;)

and fwiw I quit smoking over 10yrs ago, but each to their own choice some of my bestest friends are smokers.

    9. If I ever get my male doll, he's going to have a pipe for tobacco. It fits with the time frame that he is supposed to be from and makes him seem a little older than he would otherwise. I've never smoked in my life and never plan to, but that won't prevent my doll from doing so if he wants.

    10. you know this has made me wonder....I don't smoke, never have, in fact I am the only person I know of who has never even tried a cigarette (though I am sure there are many out there) At my age most of the people I know do smoke or have given up but used to, including my partner. When we got together I told him that I would never again be with a smoker, so he had to make a choice, he chose me. Why would I say this? Besides the fact that I was raised from the cradle knowing the risks, thinking it is disgusting smelling, somehow repulsive to look at and dirty (sorry to those who say otherwise, but the stains it leaves on fingers, teeth, and anything that is exposed to smoke over a long period prove to me that it is dirty) I have had a bad experience with smoking. When I was 18 I was dating a smoker...who had lung cancer at the age of 22. He was in remission but still smoked! During our relationship his cancer became active once more. I was basically watching him die, even after he quit. 19 and watching the love of my life die? never again.

I hate seeing people smoke. I find it unattractive. I find it base, an easy-out for setting mood (for those who say it sets mood give me a wet street under a streetlamp for brooding rather than a cigarette any day) I will close doll stories and photos with prominent smoking and even avoid manga that depicts smoking. I find Yaoi a turn on, but if I see it with a cigarette it is an instant click away. I have never been turned off a sculpt over smoking but I have from individual dolls, and certainly from photos of them.

You may think I am very harsh on anyone who smokes but I have no problem with smokers.

Why is that? because I condemn the behaviour, but never the person. The person is still someone valid, maybe interesting, maybe attractive, or what have you.

Some of my best friends smoke, I love them to death, but lord I hate that they smoke.

Some of my favourite characters smoke, I love them but hate that they smoke. I try to mentally write it out of the equation. If I can't I just don't look.

I hate smoking but never try to impose my will, if you like to smoke, or like the image, or your doll character smokes, well fine, your perrogative, I just won't

In fact the only time anyone is really going to have to deal with my attitudes on smoking is if you date me, cos then there is no room for negotiation.

The thing that really made me wonder about my own opinions was that I have a similar view of recreational drugs for similar reasons...and yet many of my dolls are drug users and alcoholics.....but not a smoker between them. I wonder why smoking bothers me so much moreso *goes away to ponder...or sleep...whatever comes first*

    11. Well, one of my future dolls will smoke. He's always smoked, it's just a part of his character. Good solid characters need flaws, don't they? Just like actual living people, it makes them more realistic. Whether it's a personality flaw, or something physical or something else.

An addiction *Smoking in this case* Is just another flaw that humans carry sometimes. So in my opinion, it's just something to make the character feel more alive and realistic ^^

Or at least, that's my two cents about it *Then again, I was raised around a family of smokers, so I've never felt adverse against it even if I never plan on taking up the habit myself*

    12. Judgemental first post, anyone? *grrr*
If you doll smokes, your doll smokes. If you smoke, you smoke. As long as you don't do it around babies and asthmatic labradors, it's your (or your dolls) choice. I don't smoke myself, but in the right hands or lips, smoking is incredibly sexy.
Edit: OK, so the health risks involved aren't sexy. Neither are all the other side-effects of smoking. But I stand by myself (if that's possible), and I still think that if the person smoking is sexy, smoking itself enhances it. I also think the starter of this thread caused an interesting debate, but is still too judgemental.

    13. I don;t like smoking, but now that I think about it, Sherlock may smoke, a pipe mainly though. Seeing as the person he is based on smokes one. Though on the other end he may not..I'm kinda undecided..

    14. I get highly irritated around rude smokers who blatantly disregard the new bylaw that states they cannot smoke with 6 meters of public places - especially near bus stops and entrances. Smoking is a privilege, not a right, which coincidentally impedes upon the rights of others if one doesn't smoke thoughtfully.

That being said, I grew up in an environment where many, many people smoke; nearly all of my friends (especially guys) started at 13-14, and are already trying to quit; I was one of the few who's never tried smoking - which was, by the way, something they all respected, and never tried making me start. I also have very fond memories of the cigarette smoke, because it reminds me of my mom's ex-boyfriend who was my daddy from age 0 to 7.

I don't have a lot of smoking characters, other than one... who steals other people's lives; that prolongs his own and forces his body to regenerate from any damage - so he smokes more of as a habit that started from him purposely whittling away at his life. It's his way of being sardonic about his existence.

    15. My dolls character doesn't smoke, but in some pictures she have a smoke, because it makes the right feeling in the picture. :)

    16. i personally dont smoke but my dolls character has been around for almost 10yrs and has smoked since the first doodle i ever drew of him...i bought the doll cigarettes when i ordered him. he has since smoked so much his fingers turned yellow from nicotine! :o

actually it was from the yellow paint on the cigarettes. but i left it there, since it fit him perfectly.

    17. My doll doesn’t smoke.
She is a character of mine, a character who has a personality. And I don’t think that smoking would suit her personality…
By the way, I myself don’t smoke (and I even get slightly allergic to cigarette smoke when people around me smoke), but I don’t think that it matters. I can’t say that I will never ever have one of my dolls smoking. If I think that it would suit him or her – a doll will smoke.

    18. Nop.
      101% No.
My doll is a shy, dreaming and sweet doll.
She loves the nature and smoking & drinking are one of the last things she would do!
      ^^

    19. Well, my doll smokes because she's from the 1920's, if she didn't smoke it would be very odd for her time and place.

    20. One of my future ones will ^ ^ He is supposed to be that kind of character who got easily influenced by his friends when he was a teenager and he didn't hang out with the best of people uvu;; But he and his lover are trying to cut it ;P
And I must say I'm an anti-smoker uvu;; My mother smokes all day at home and I always shout at her that the house stinks xP So, that said, I don't believe my character/doll smokes because I find it cool or anything~
