Does your doll "smoke"? Why?

Jan 18, 2006

    1. I don't smoke, and I hate being around cigarettes. But I don't live alone, and I'm the only nonsmoker out of five people. So one of my boys (the most adult looking one) is always found with some piece of paper rolled up and colored to look like a cigarette in his yellowed fingers, courtesy of my housemates. It's half amusing and half irritating, but I suppose I have a doll that smokes.

    2. Fidelis smokes. It's part of his character. He swears it helps the inflammation in his lungs...but he's not human so it's a bit different. O_O

Other than that, I don't see where this is any worse of a habit than some dolls binging on sweets or being addicted to sex or whatnot.

      Everyone has a vice.

    3. I really didn't intend for my doll to be a smoker, but as soon as I got her i started to make all sorts of doll things. I gave some cigarettes away at a meetup but still had a few left, so stuck it in her hand and she practically latched onto it! I don't smoke, but her character is homeless so I guess it fits for her to have a vice or two.

    4. I smoked cigarettes for around seven years. My father smoked and my grandmother smoked. I'm used to people smoking, so yes. Some of my dolls smoke. My babies dont of course, but Bee loves to smoke! I go with however my doll feels and not what I think is moral or appropriate. idk if my other dolls will smoke.

    5. I don't have any that smoke and, though I have future dolls/characters in mind, I haven't considered them to be smokers. It's not off the table, but it isn't something that's come in to play here.

    6. My babu finds smoking disgusting so he only did it once when his friend offered him one but practically choked on it, he usually keeps one around either twirling it in his fingers or hanging out his mouth because as mob boss he thinks he's supposed to but he never lights it

    7. Interesting question! Harsh reaction. I have nothing to do with smoking, but I'd pop a cigarrette between his hands for the same reason I'd put glasses on his face-- why not. It's a prop that makes him look in scale, and just is another detail that adds to a character, any way you want to portray it.

Like I find people dyeing only their bangs a fluorescent pink sort of offputting, but on a doll? Fine with me, don't care. Shrug shrug shrug

    8. Nope. Because most of my dolls work as a doctor. XD
And they live with little kids. Haha...

But anyway, it's only an inanimate stuff. ^^
      I think it's a preference as well.

    9. The Court dolls all belong to a medieval fantasy setting, where if they have any varieties of Nicotania, they don't know how bad it is for their health, so a few of them will smoke at times. Aiden has a habit of occasionally indulging in a pipe, but he doesn't do it often because he's a hunter and the scent would alert animals to his presence if he smelled strongly of smoke.

    10. The only doll I'll have that "smokes" will be Isaak, because it's canon for his character to do so. However, I'd make him little plastic/clay prop cigarillos, he doesn't need to be around real smoke. My other two, Sousuke and my Illusion Spirit, don't have any need to, so they wouldn't. Sousuke might get a tea set, that's about it!
I smoke shisha in a hookah, but I doubt I will find a doll-sized one, and even then, it would still only be Isaak "smoking." Ha, maybe pose my other dolls as if they want him to go away with all of that! xD "Hey. I said- hey! Put that out!"

    11. All off the dolls in our merry trio smoke. In fact Aharon pretty much grabbed a cigarette straight after box opening. It seems to calm him down and it's solidly part of his character. My friends doll Mels smokes weed from day one, it's just the way she is. And Lucy is a social smoker, so she just gets dragged along for shiggles.

    12. None of my dolls smoke, and none of my dolls-in-planning smoke. However, if their character called for it, I am not opposed to having a "smoking" doll. They suffer no ill consequences from smoking, so I don't mind seeing a doll holding a cig.

Personally, I don't smoke and never have.

    13. I've always wanted a smoker doll. Most of my dolls are too young or sweet. I just feel like I'd be a big change and the whole smoker part would really boost the mood and set it apart from the others.

    14. The doll I've got coming in does - but he's the 1st to do so, and only because the real life person that he's very loosely based upon does (did) smoke.

I've got to admit, not being a smoker myself I never even considered it as a possible personality trait - despite the fact that a couple of the characters I have shelled live in a dystopian version of our world so probably would...

    15. Only two of my boys are going to smoke because its simply in their character to do so. But they don't do it to be cool, they do it because they are stressed about their lives.

    16. Artistically I see why people would use a cigarette; it can create twists of smoke and does come with a certain atmosphere. Personally, I prefer the more elegant, decorative pipes, as far as looks. Cigarettes are not exactly pretty... I don't mind if someone's doll does this, though. It's not as if it's actually hurting anyone, and as others have said, it is the character of the doll. No one is perfect, even fictionally. I can't say I'd never have a character who smokes, though I doubt I would... I think people who create stories can have a hard time making their character do something they may morally disagree with or find unattractive. At least, I do.

I understand that it can look like it's glorifying a bad thing to get into, but lots of media portray worse things such as killing in a way which makes it look like it is 'good' or 'cool'. Really, I guess it would be nice to see a character suffer the effects of those actions.

    17. I don't smoke and my dolls don't smoke. It is unhealthy. :)

    18. My dolls don't smoke and neither do I but I don't see anything wrong with smoking and find it silly that you would judge so harshly over something like that. Also smoking is really anything but anti-social. I've seen people standing outside smoking and being very social with the other people outside with them.

    19. I don't smoke (apparently I'm even allergic to something in that stuff) but one of my dolls does for a part of the story. Not because it's cool, but because it's necessary for the story.

    20. I don't see it as disgusting though I've never smoked myself and don't like the smell of tobacco. It is everyone's choice; and yes, I do agree smoking gives this look of coolness and freedom. I see several reasons why people smoke; you can't blame them for any of those reasons.
On other hand, doll companies shouldn't be exposing their dolls with cigarettes. But then, I think doll companies shouldn't be creating all these dolls that represent death/killing/blood/torture too..
