Does your height affect your doll's height?

Jan 31, 2011

    1. Nope. From a Yo-SD to a giant Idealian, I love 'em all. :) With the minor exception of anything in MSD size. I've handled a couple of them and they just don't feel right to me, so I doubt I will ever get any. Go figure?

    2. I wonder if the size of one's hands matters. I'm average sized, but my hands are big and I love SDs. MSDs, at least slim ones, don't feel quite right. They're so slim.
I'm still buying MSDs though XD Sculpt over size!

    3. I only buy MSD's or smaller. i do love most of the SD sculpts, but I think it's a little strange to walk around with a doll that's allmost half my lenght (I'm 1.60m).

    4. I'm about 5"2' and my fist doll was an MSD because I figured having a 60cm doll would be too big, even though I loved the sculpts. To be honest after having my girl for almost a year I still think she's big. Even so, I'm getting an SD/DD from volks for Christmas this year (and I'm a little nervous about it too). Regardless it's the sculpt of the doll that matters more to me than the size. My fried is only small and she has a 70cm boy, it's almost half her size and she doesn't care.

    5. No, not at all. I am a pretty small guy. Like Elijah Wood sized. And I have a Soom Idealian and would not mind going even bigger.

    6. When I was buying my dolls I didn't even consider height; I just knew I wanted an MSD. I've pretty much stuck to MSDs so far, although I'm getting a 70cm RS Long soon. C:

I'm 5'6", so I'm not really all that worried about it. xD

    7. They're all smaller than me, so no~

    8. I'm fairly close to the short/average cusp (5'3"-5'4" depending on who's measuring me) and I don't have a problem handling most sizes, from my 42 cm MSDs to my 68 SD.

I do wonder about the the size of hands like colour suggested lol. After thinking about it, I definitely get slim dolls that fit in my hands nicely (even my SDs are/will be on the willowy side) because I have ridiculously small hands. I don't like my mother's SD girl who is about 10 cm shorter than my own SD girl because she's chunkier.

      Lol wow I've completely rambled.

    9. For me, the issue is where I'm living and what I have in my room. If I feel like I wouldn't be able to have my doll with me comfortably due to too much clutter or something, then I would go with a smaller size.

    10. I'm over 6ft and wish I could find a mainstream dolly half my height!

That said... n'aww, my size doesn't play on my dolls size, but bigger would be nicer - I have massive man hands and fidly things (re-stringing, dressing) my slim MSD is giving me premature arthritis! :sweat

    11. Not really. I`m around 167cm so quite average I think.
I started with a mini because I was thinking that SD will be way too big. Then got tiny the size which I was used to while collecting other dolls. So my `BJD family plan` was to have dolls 45cm and under. They are nice size to handle and easy to `play with` as my hands are pretty small. But I`m such a `lurker` that I had to lurk into SD marketplace, where I saw modded Vampire Elf Chiwoo which I felt in love with and now is my favourite doll ever.
I still like all sizes, starting from my 13cm anthro and up but if someone would ask me now which size is my favourite, I can definitely say its SD, size which I wasn't even thinking about.
Now I would love to have Lusion doll, she is too amazing for words and so big.

    12. no..I am 170 cm, average, I like MSD, but SD as well. Although I don't own an SD (yet), I think those are really gorgeous and detailed. I actually don't like BJD's smaller than MSD...I thought I would like them, but IRL I thought they were too small..

    13. This thread actually got me curious, my first doll is somewhat of a tall girl (DZ old body, she's just over 60cm tall) and I'm a tall girl, so multiplied her height up to human scale. Turns out we're just about exactly the same height :3 Not that I don't have smaller dolls and shorter girls.

    14. I don't think my height affects the height of dolls I like too much. I'm actually pretty short (just under 5 feet/ a little over 150cm) and I almost feel like I'm MORE attracted to taller dolls. But I tend to like the taller dolls for their more mature sculpts. I will buy a doll because I like the face. Size is not a major concern for me. :)

    15. Nope. Im not really tall or short just like in the middle but I really dont care about a doll being too tall. I usually dont worry about this though since I like smaller dolls more. They are just so cute and easy to bring to places.

    16. Well my 44cm is a short character but thats because shes based of a short character in a book. So i'm not really sure.

    17. Nope! I'm 5'1" (which is really really freaking short where I live) and I own a 70cm boy. He might have been unwieldy at first, but I figured out how to hold him right pretty quick ;) I'm even considering possibly buying a Dollmore Lusion in the future--my height isn't gonna hold me back from the big pretties! <3

    18. It...might? I'm 5 foot 2, and I am trying to figure out what puts me off 60cm+ dolls. Perhaps it is the me to them ratio! My first doll was a 65cm, but I couldn't bond to him since he seemed huuuge to me. He felt clunky and awkward in my hands, and he didn't fit on my desk or anything.
My second (and current) doll is a mini, and I fell in love quickly...right now he is sitting neatly on my desk, and he is so easy for me to hold or carry or pose.

I wonder if it is less of a height thing, and more that I have itty bitty tiny hands (relatively)! Haha.
I would be curious to see this thread in a poll format :3

    19. Iplehouse dolls are rather heavy at any size. My friend was complaining about how heavy her guy was and I admit I was sort of unsympathetic untiil I saw the side by side weight's of dolls the same size. I've got one 72cm guy that's surprisingly light compared to my others, so height/weight really isn't the issue with mine. I'd be more worried about a heavier doll being more easily damaged in a drop or fall.

On a side note, this is an interesting question to me because I've seen my younger nieces and nephews carry siblings only slightly smaller than they are with no problem. I guess it's something you absorb from being used to it. I would normally not consider height to be a relation to anything in doll owning except my inability to sew for the smaller dolls because of my sewing design criteria.

    20. I'm only 1.59 m, so pretty short. Especially for people from the Netherlands.
But still, I like SD's the most. ^^
They do look bigger for me and are very heavy, but I don't care^^
