Does your height affect your doll's height?

Jan 31, 2011

    1. I'm actually bery small guy, but I like SD the best. 55cm is a little small for me, at the time I prefer just a little over 60cm dolls the most.
When I was younger I loved MSD-size, but today I avoid them.
      So, things can change.
But I think the fact that I'm small makes me see the tall dolls more ''alive'', since they're so big beside me.

    2. Eh? I don't think it affects me, I'm on the tall-ish side and my favourite size is definitely MSD.

    3. I'm a pretty short guy and I don't own dolls over 65cm, but that's less to do with my height and more to do with the hassle of storing or displaying huge dolls. A lot of the taller male dolls also tend to be hugely buff, which I'm not a big fan of either

    4. no relationship between them. that's depending on your taste, child、teenage or youth

    5. Nah... I'm 5'2" and I like my SDs.
I never even gave it a thought that smaller dolls might be easier to handle, regardless of my height. I just fell for SDs and have only fallen for 60 cm and taller.
I do want to get a shorter one though, but it would still have to be 55 cm and up. Perhaps a Zaoll, but never smaller than that.
Although my characters are usually pretty short, because I am. But they are all still SDs ranging from 57-70 cm.

    6. I'm 5'3" and I like YoSDs and Pukifee-size the best. I don't think there's a connection, though. I like smaller dolls because they're more childlike and I prefer that.

    7. Certainly not, because I´m 1,77m and only have MSD. The high is not importent, more that they have anything other relativ to me.

    8. Hmm, maybe. I'm only 5" and haven't grown in years. The dolls that appeal to me the most are the MSD range. Dolls 65 cm and up and especially the 70 cm look too tall to me.

    9. heck yes! I carted heavy/tall dolls around for a few years and they were no fun at all! and heavy! Yo's for me!

    10. not really, I'm short (5ft1in) but I love the bigger dolls and got an SD for my first BJD (I had plans for a mecha angel a long time ago but I found that I wasn't very fond of their bodies)

    11. I guess it does affect my choice a little.. My first boy (SD13 size) is gonna be over 1/3 of my height (im 5'5" or 170cm). I have never actually handled a BJD but i dont think it would be a problem if i were to get bigger guys.

Smaller ones on the other hand may be an issue for me, like if i were to have to go on photoshoots with them, i would probably have to lay on my bell on the ground, if i want to get a really good shot of them with nature. So i might avoid smaller ones.

But who knows, i might just change my mind some day xD

    12. I'm 5ft tall and find it rather amusing that my first doll is 70cm and is going to be a little under half my height. But the idea of it really doesn't bother me, even if I find it a little awkward at first I'll get used to it. I like dolls of all sizes :) I really couldn't imagine limiting myself.

    13. i'm really REALLY tall, but i usually go for MSDs. SDs are just too big for me.

    14. I think that for some people, your physical size could be a big reason for the size of dolls you like. I'm 4'9 and have very tiny hands. I wear a size 4 ring for goodness sakes. For my first doll I decided to go with a MSD because I didn't want it to be too big and heavy but I was also afraid tinies would be too small. After owning my MSD for a few months, I couldn't ever own a SD because I have a hard time controlling the MSD. I'm actually looking to purchase a tiny soon to see if they will be easier for me to work with and handle.

    15. I have the opposite problem to most of you in that I'm over 6 foot with a 6 foot ten brother, 6 foot 9 best friend and 6 foot 5 boyfriend (making me the little girl when we all hang out). In fact, I'm not only tall but big all over with a 'matronly' bust, wrists that take a man's watch, muscles and chub and just: an over all bigger size. My smallest doll is a 60cm SD girl who is beautiful but whom I find quite delicate and petite in comparison to my grail doll Sam who is 70cm and whom I quite happily carry about without issue. I know that the next doll I'm getting is going to be an 80cm and that I have a couple more 70s I'm saving up for and now, when I look at SDs I find then too small for my tastes.

A friend of mine with two MSDs and a barely touched SD once started saying to me when I was happily amused by how cute and tiny her dolls were that they were superior to my 70 because she could do things like sit them on her palm at which point I picked up Sam and plonked him on my palm in the exact same way she had her MSD. I think because I'm so large as are most of the people I hang out with that bigger dolls are just more in keeping with my size (I actually forget how big Sam is supposed to be until someone else handles him).

I frequently look at MSDs and think how cute they are and then I remember how small they are too and wonder it they're really for me.

    16. I'm pretty tall at 5'10" and while I own some large dolls I prefer dolls around 55cm or smaller. The reason is that I live in a small apartment in new york. If I lived somewhere with more room i would be able to display my larger dolls more

    17. I am about 180 cm and I like tall dolls more, but my preferences do not depend on my height, only if I like or do not like the doll...)

    18. I actually go for bigger dolls because I like how big they look next to me.
I'm not terribly small at 170cm, but also not really big, so my 70cm guys are already pretty long next to me.
I actually really like that, I also have very small hands compared to my overall size and still prefer a big camera.

    19. My height doesn't really affect the way I choose a doll. But I do see how shorter bjd enthusiast can have some problems.

    20. Nah, I don't really think my height effects my dolls' height haha. I'm the average height of 5'6" (I'm a little over so more like 5'7"), and I tend to collect the bigger dolls, but it's not because of their size. It's more like the age of the character that effects their size; since most of my characters are adults, I get bigger sizes. But I still always love the minis and tinies and definitely plan to get some in the future! :kitty1 To answer the other question: I think all doll sizes are great and I wouldn't let their size stop me from buying a doll I really wanted :). So even if the doll felt too big for me, I'd still buy it!
