Dolkot Mini Junior Discussion

Aug 29, 2007

    1. Resurrecting this thread because Dolkot is making a new body style for their Junior line! It actually has a more mature look, including breasts for the female body. I'm in love with Lala, but I prefer mature minis, so this was such great news for me!

    2. I know! I saw those on their site... they are gorgeous. :D

Since my girl finally arrived, I'm now saving for a JDK NS Day. I can't wait to order him. I think the JDKs are on sale until the end of October... sadly, I won't have enough funds by then. :...(

    3. Wanted to pass this info along... I don't know if it's been mentioned elsewhere.

I noticed this weekend that Dolkot no longer has a "skin tone" pull-down option for the JDKs. I asked them about it via their Q&A:

      And they replied:

    4. I'm almost ready to order my Day, but I have a quick question. I hope it doesn't sound stupid.

Is the boy in this picture Day?:

      http://dolkot.com/shop/step1.php?number=1681

According to Dolkot, it is (at least, that's what stated on the images). Maybe it's just my eyes, but his face looks different. I even zoomed in and his cheeks/chin area doesn't look as slender. Is it just the angle? I know the make-up is different (the eyelashes are much longer than those in his promo pictures). I must be going nuts.

Thoughts? Opinions? Help? Everything is appreciated. Thank you very, very much!!!

    5. I think it probably is Day, the mouth shape looks right. The eyebrows are painted totally different than any Dolkot faceup I've ever seen, though! Day and Kiss at least seem to always have the straight angled eyebrows. I'd guess it's either a custom or they have a new artist.

    6. Thank you very much for your help, AmyAngel. You always come to my rescue when I have Day questions and I appreciate it! :)

Glad to know the sculpt is the same. I think they must've switched make up artists, because I've seen a few recent ones and they all have that look (longer eyelashes, rounded eyebrows, etc.)

I think I'm going to be brave and order my boy blank. :XD:

    7. Aww... that kinda stinks about the new faceups - I really liked the Dolkot eyebrows, LOL! I'm ordering all mine blank these days anyway, though.

I see they're doing a present mini doll for Christmas, how cool! I don't need any of the other Dolkot dolls, though (well, I'd love a Peya, but not buying one now, no money!). Watch this one be something I just HAVE to have. Maybe someone will do a split or something. I can't wait to see pics of it in any case.

    8. I know. I love the defaults that are on the promo pictures... Le sigh. That's okay though. There are a lot of lovely artists to commission! I'm not brave enough to do my own face-up, lol.

I'm almost ready for him - I've ordered some clothes, some eyes from Dollshe for him, and just received his red wig from CanCan yesterday. :XD: He'll have goodies waiting for him whenever he comes home.

Yes! Christmas Event doll! I'm excited. It actually kind of looks like there might be a boy/girl version (the one on the right looks like it's wearing a skirt). :D If I don't like the event doll I'll probably look for a split. I'd make one but I don't think I've been a member long enough yet. :sweat We'll see! I can't wait to see pictures.

I wish there were more JDK owners. There doesn't seem to be too many around here, hehe.

    9. Dolkot added a little more info about their Christmas Event:

      http://dolkot.com/board/view.php?board_name=DREAMBOARD4&ID=391

It sounds almost too good to be true. Two free dolls? I can't help but be a little suspicious, especially since I've read some things about their new resin quality being so rough (in combination with a new make-up technique that they don't seem to want to talk to me about when I ask them questions). Hmm.

    10. I'm betting by "2 jonit Junior dolls" they're just emphasizing that the Junior dolls are double-jointed. Then again, who knows? Maybe they're trying to one-up Customhouse with their BoGo deals lately. It would be a bold move to drum up more business. Dolkot did move from Korea to China a while ago, so I'm betting their costs and expenses have gone down a TON since the move was completed, so maybe they are giving more away.

As for the resin quality, mine's not new so I can't speak specifically to that, but I can say he's not as silky smooth as my other dolls - there's a bit more texture to his resin. Not anything you can see, but you can feel it. I actually like it a lot, it's different. He came with a faceup, though, so I don't know how the resin texture would affect doing those.

    11. Oh! Really?! Yours isn't smooth either, huh? That makes me feel a lot better, actually. :XD:

I didn't know that they moved their offices, either. Thank you! :thumbup

    12. Yeah, he's not super-smooth like my other dolls, I wouldn't call him rough at all, though. Actually I'm going to have to compare later - while he has the most "tooth" to his resin, I think all the ones from non-Chinese companies have slightly less-smooth resin than the Chinese ones (who have no seamlines, the more expensive dolls do have seams), and he came from before Dolkot moved (though I'm sure they were casting the resin in China already, most companies do I'm sure!). I'll compare - I'm going by memory now but it seems like my older Korean dolls have more tooth than the newer Korean ones, which are smoother like the Chinese dolls I have. I don't know the real age on many of mine, though so it's hard to accurately gauge things like that.

Most of the problems reported in Dolkot's feedback seem to have come from the time right around when they were moving and right after. My understanding (which could be wrong) is that they were in Korea, but having resin casting done in China, and decided it was most cost-effective to relocate in whole rather than have all the shipping back and forth going on.

    13. I gottcha. :XD:

Now I'm trying to decide whether I want mine to have the new "SJDK body" or the one on Day's page (they told me before I can still get that one if I want). I don't really know the difference between "double jointed" and all that. :sweat

    14. Double jointed is excellent! It improves poseability by a LOT. Both the new body on the site and the older one that I have are double jointed, though - it looks like they've changed the sculpting and tried to minimize the appearance on the joints of the new one. Time will tell how the new one compares to the older one!

The one I have is double jointed, and can make very natural looking poses. Sometimes I'm shocked at how "real" and relaxed he looks in photos. That said, he's one of my worst standers. Granted, I have Dollzones who you can just plop on their feet and watch them stay, and a Minifee A-line who is one of the best posers made, so I'm a bit spoiled! He does stand, it just can sometimes take a bit of fiddling to get him balanced just so. I do not trust him to stand on his own, though - I very rarely go out of reaching distance while he is standing, especially without someone else spotting him (honestly I rarely do that with any of them, but he's the one I worry most about toppling over). He probably needs tightening again which will help that. I'm hoping the new body is a bit more balanced in standing poses.

The double joints on the body I have are of the "very squared off" variety. His elbows and knees look like squares when fully bent. Many double joints DO look like this - the Minifee body is one of few that doesn't. Double joints generally aren't pretty, but the increase in poseability is worth it to me. They're easily covered with clothes if they're bothersome.

The main dislike I have with the body I have, is that he does not have S-hooks in the wrists and ankles. The string is threaded through the hands and feet. This makes re-stringing much more difficult. Since he was freshly re-strung when I bought him I haven't worried about it, but eventually I will make or buy him some S-hooks for his feet and ankles (I've done the same for my Resinsoul girl who also didn't have S-hooks there). I don't know if the newer body uses S-hooks or not.

    15. Neat! I'm not sure if my DOC is double jointed or not. LOL! I think when the time comes I'm going to "take the leap" and get the new SJDK body. :XD: I like how seamless it looks.

My girl can't stand too well, either. I was actually a bit surprised - from all the DOD box openings I always saw them "stand right out of the box." Mine topples over. :sweat That's okay though... I'm hoping Day can help support her and can stand a bit better.

*kicks Dolkot's website* They need to update with Event Doll pictures, dang it. :whee:

    16. My DoC body is single jointed, but it's an OLD one (with a Lati Rucas head on it). I'm not sure what the current ones are. I do know that mine has to stand with one leg slightly bent, but is rock-solid once you get him balanced. I've spoken to a DoT owner who has to shift one foot out a bit on hers to get it to balance as well. I'm not sure what the issue is with the Dolkot body I have, really. Sometimes he's great for a few minutes and sometimes he's like a toddler who doesn't want to be put down. He is the cuddliest of mine to hold, actually. I think part of it is needing tightening and part is the joint engineering.

    17. hey there :3

i am very tempted to get a Day for christmas this year (and i guess if i like the free christmas msd, i really HAVE to get him xD) ...
the problem is that i'm not quite sure about his proportions... on some pictures the head looks a little too big for the body overall, or is that just me? i would really appreciate any straight on full body pictures of any dolkot junior °-°!

also, i read something about the default face up changing and now i'm a little concerned about that, too. because i absolutely adore his default face up on the dolkot site. so, is it true? D:

      and lastly:
AmyAngel, i completely and utterly ADORE your day °_°!! he's one of the main reasons i want to get my own and see what i can make of him :3. so thanks >w<

    18. Howdy Tsugaru! Looks like you're in the same boat as me. I have been eying Day for months. ;)

Okay, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought this. *_* I asked this same thing a few posts earlier:

      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5570022&postcount=24

      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5570041&postcount=25

It might be the new body... they just updated the body (but you can still purchase the old one if you request it). I also read they recently changed their resin type. Initially I thought the head/chin/cheeks on the SJDK pics looked different than the head in the promo pictures. It might be the angle, too.

This is not confirmed. It's only based on pictures. For example, the defaults on their new baby/tiny dolls look like a different style, and some of the recent box openings look different than other defaults from the past.

It's noticeable when you compare Day's promo pictures to the Day appearing in their SJDK body promo. The eyelashes are longer, the eyebrows are a different angle, etc.

      Promo:

Recent posting of Day on Dolkot's site advertsing their SJDK body (he's the nude doll on the right):
      http://dolkot.com/shop/step1.php?number=1681

I contacted Dolkot about the discrepancy, and they just replied to me this morning. They told me the "default make-up I'd receive" is the one in the promo pictures, but I'm not completely convinced. I saw a SDK recently received that had default make-up and it didn't look like others I've seen in the past.

Needless to say, I'm torn on the subject too. I was set on getting Day's default face-up but for $55 (and that's the SALE price!) I want to make sure it is the one on his promo pictures. Unfortunately there aren't many Dolkot owners around, and even fewer with the JDKs.

AmyAngel's Crow is the first Day I ever saw and the reason I looked at Dolkot's site for the first time, too. Her boy is very popular!

I love Day very much. :D His slender head looks great next to DOC girls, and his nose is too cute. I just wish Dolkot could be a little more consistant with the face-ups. I'm just paranoid and too stingy with my money. :sweat

      Hope this helps. <3

    19. I'll try and take some pics of Crow later tonight - sometimes his head looks a little big in pics, but then I can get a stretchy 6-7 wig on him... my other dolls are mostly Minifee and Dollzone, and he fits in with them beautifully. Even my Lati Rucas head which is small seems to fit in well, though, to me anyway! Maybe I'm used to them or just not picky, I don't know. Crow has big hair, too, not sure if that balances him or makes his head look bigger, LOL!

And thanks for all the compliments on Crow - I just love him! I had been looking for a sculpt to be Crow, and I decided if I was doing SD size he'd have to be a Migidoll Miho, but I'd really prefer minis. When I saw Day it was all over, I knew he HAD to be Crow! He is strikingly beautiful and expressive, I'm thrilled to have him.

    20. I would be very interested to see pictures, too. His promo pics are all taken from an angle, while some of the newer ones are from the front. Seeing yours would clear up my confusion, at least. :XD:

Cupcake for you because you're so awesome: :pcupcake

And one for your beautiful Crow, too: :bcupcake

EDIT: Also, Dolkot told me they will be posting pictures of their event doll this weekend!
