Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Doll carriers? What do you use?

Sep 26, 2004

    1. I went to a thrift store and found some quilted pillow covers that I was able to turn into nice little wrapping blankets for my 60cm dolls. (All I had to do was slip the doll into the slot on the back of the pillow cover and wrap it up. Then I could place it into a backpack or carrying case.)

    2. Hi thanks for the ideas guys :) I came across the idea of useing a training shoe bag, I remodled the quil she came with to make the internal padding and with her knees tucked up she fits a treat. (she is an AOD 1/4) All I have to do now is decorate the outside a little.;)

    3. For right now I'm going to use a regular backpack to carry my (SD-sized) boy in, even though it will be a bit of a tight fit XP

Dollmore has some really gorgeous carriers, but they are a bit expensive.

    4. I made this for my Ringo, Pippin. And I am making them for my other dolls

    5. I have one of the older Dollzone mini boxes and it holds four of my minis quite comfortably. So I made a bag out of some heavy duty chord material and carry the box in that. :3

    6. The most common items that get turned into carriers are violin cases. But for 1/4 you can also use a trumpet case.

    7. With Halloween coming be on the look out for coffins, if you are so inclined. Target had a "large candy bowl" lidded coffin that several of us managed to get. Pending on the amount of padding you use you can fit an SD or even a pair of minis inside. http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u270/DollyKim/P1220459.jpg It needs straps too but at around $20 it was a great start.

I also expiramented with craft foam, Foamies you can get white in large sheets, and foamcore for making a case. In the end I use my Dollzone carrier, their shipper boxes and pillows, and the coffin for Xavier.

    8. I have doll case to carry them going out.^^

    9. Allura actually has her own little case~! It's mostly hand-made--I bought a wooden hinged case shaped like a book from Micheal's, then hand-painted it, installed a handle and lock, lined it with fabric, and made two detachable cushions for Allura!
Right now I'm trying to find some tiny buckles (like the kinds on newer dog and cat collars XD) so I can install some straps (the pillows are kind of poofy, but easily squished, so I need to get something I can strap Allura into them so they don't rub her faceup!), then it'll be finished ^______^
      I adore that case <3

However, I have no idea what I'll carry my SD-sized girl in when I get her though XD I suppose I'll find out when I get there!

    10. (Mods, please move me if this isn't the right place)

Out of curiosity, how many dolls do you all put in a carrier bag at a time? I'm asking because it seems like most are made for one or two, but that's hardly convenient when you have four full dolls needing carried around. Do you guys tend to put a bunch of dolls in one bag, or just buy and carry a bunch of bags? Are there dangers associated with putting too many dolls in one bag?

    11. I have one big bag and put my 2 MSDs together in one of the pillows and the 3 tinies go in little blankets around them, I always make sure they are protected though!

    12. I've managed to squeeze 3 minis into one bag before, and 2 into the Dolkot carrier my Day came with. I'm considering getting one of those rolling totes to put more in, though. I don't have anything my bigger guy will fit in!

I always try to be very careful about how their hands are positioned when they're in the bags - I put Kale's hat over his hands and even put bubblewrap around one's hands when I put three together in the bag. I also usually put them head-to-feet, they seem to fit better that way.

    13. I have a 'double decker' MSD bag made for two. I can get four in, and a tiny or two in there, but it takes some doing and is probably not the safest way to do it. I make sure to be VERY careful with the bag when I have it overstuffed.

    14. I imagine you could probably squeeze two MSD to SD-sized dolls into one bag, but anything more than that, you'd probably be best off looking at getting one of those rolling totes that was mentioned. :)

    15. I have a MSD DOD carrier bag. It's for two, but I can stuff three in and still have plenty of room for cushions and stuff.
If I left out all the cushions I'm sure I could fit in 5. I don't think I would ever do that though.

I also sometimes put my SD in it. He has to bend his knees way up to fit but he does fit so that's good enough for me.

    16. I have a double SD bag (Dollmore) - when I have to, I sqeeze two 70cm and a tiny (33cm) in it. And while I've never tested it, I'm pretty sure that I could get another tiny in there, too. Maybe even a mini! I don't like to move with multiple bags so I always try to fit them all into one^^

Though when I have to tote my three large boys, one has to travel in my single 70cm bag - which can actually fit two large boys easily

Oh, and a fun fact we tested on our last meet: The double SD bag can fit a 80cm Sabik with enough space for at least one tiny next to him. though poor big guy will look pretty cramped in there

    17. The record for my bag (HappyDoll) is 4 SDs with socks over their heads. However I don't recommend it. You'll put your back out.

    18. It depends on the bag, the dolls, and where I'm going.

I have a Bernina rolling bag/case that's made for transporting sewing machines, and I regularly put 5-6 SD (and larger) sized dolls in it, plus a few YoSD sized ones, without any trouble. I use it mostly for traveling to local doll meetups and conventions.

If I'm traveling by airplane (such as when I go to California for the GoGaDoll convention or LA Dolpas), I bring my dolls as carry-on luggage to lessen the chances of damage. When I'm doing that, I can only take two bags that have to fit within certain size restrictions, and my Bernina case is just barely too large to be used as carry-on luggage. Instead, I bring my old Dollshe carrying bag (made for 70cm dolls) and a smaller non-doll carrying bag I have (it's like a large laptop/overnight/shoulder bag). I can fit five SD-sized dolls (as well as lots of doll padding pillows) into the Dollshe bag without much trouble, and I generally put two SD-sized dolls, two or more YoSD-sized dolls, my 15.5" laptop, and my Asus EeePC (8" laptop) into the smaller bag. I've yet to have a doll break or suffer any damage, but the bags are VERY heavy - I usually have bruised shoulders and sore arm/upper back muscles for a couple days after my flgiht.

Notably, I've been having trouble finding a bag to transport Davlin (Dollshe Saint Head/Soom Heliot Body/Soom Sard Hocks/Soom Amber Hooves), because he's SO tall that he doesn't fit in my longer doll carriers, and the unusual jointing, spurs, etc on his legs make it hard for him to fit in my Bernina case unless he's the ONLY doll in it. I picked up a tent-carrying bag at the local state fair a couple days ago, and I'm hoping it's long/wide enough to hold him.

    19. I'm going to a meet on sunday and i am planing on taking 5 of my guys, and they are all going in a suitcase.... it fits 4 msds and a SD, i have seen some of the others that go do that as well..... i know what you mean tho i have a msd carry case from dollzone that can hold 2 msd's and a bbb 27cm , i can get 3msd's but it is a squish and doesnt do up that well, its ok if you are not carrying them, so in the car but not much else, with the suit case i can fit my dolls and other stuff as well so its all good!

    20. My husband and I have 16 dolls standing at the moment, 12 large dolls, 1 mini and 3 tinys. We often transport our dolls, taking them with us when we're visiting my husband's Mother, or when going to doll meets.

Each transporter holds two large dolls or one large, one mini and two tinys. That means we are carrying four to six carriers at the same time.

It's a hassle, but there's no other practical and safe way to do it. It also means that we no longer can bring all our dolls...
