1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Doll carriers? What do you use?

Sep 26, 2004

    1. I customize some of my BJD bags, I place badges on and such, since I have them (Although I had not heard about it by then so it did not feel kind of strange at all when I first saw and read about this), but I do not do so to the other ones. For me it all depends on the material they are made, but when it is possible I do so to recognize my BJD bags in meeting ups at a sight. Let's say I personalize them for practical reasons. For example, what I am making to all my BJD bags lately is attaching to them nametags with my name, address and phone number, just in case they could get lost and be found by a honest person, although I always keep an eye on and pay attention to every of them.

    2. I use a violin case to carry my boys around so that kinda stands out a little anyways. Plus, it's not black like most others I've seen, but brown, that's why I never have problems finding it :3
I might add a little more decoration on the outside though, just for fun.

    3. In S.Cal there are massive meetups with tons of bags, but generally everyone has different bags, and those that do have the same bag one bag is obviouslly newer then the other so we don't tend to have the problem of bag identification. Then I would suspect there are small groups where people do group orders together or have the same tastes so they do tend to get more of one type vs another. We do however have the problem that yes most of our bags are black. But people haven't really done anything to the bags for identification, I think it has to do with the concept of not wanting to mess up a doll accessory that adds value to the doll if you were to resell the doll and were to include the bag with it.

    4. Interesting idea! A doll carrier would be the perfect place to display all those free pins from Dollmore!

    5. Those long, black bags all do look a lot alike, don't they? XD

I got one of those engraved metal luggage tags for mine, with my phone number and email address on it. It's nothing fancy, but since I'm the only one in the local group who has that kind of tag, it still makes it pretty easy to pick my black carrier out of a pile of them.

    6. I ended up buying my bag from someone local who makes them with heavy-duty upholstery and the like. Mine's got sort of a funky squares pattern going on. Had I one of the company bags, it would probably be covered in fun things like keychains and buttons. I ought to cover this one with buttons anyways. Mostly, all our bags end up with our individual purses/sweaters/shoes piled on top of them (once the dolls have been removed) so it's usually not hard to find one's own bag.

Personally, I've always been more worried about my laptop. My entire school department pretty much used the exact same Macbook Pros.... eventually, stickers and doodles started appearing because you don't want to get your computer mixed up with each other, and it deters others from taking your computer (it's recognizable). Mine's got a painting on it.

    7. You know, it actually wouldn't have occurred to me, probably because whenever I think of them, I somehow classify them as "luggage" instead of an "accessory" like my side-along bag, which is covered in buttons. My suitcases tend to be much plainer. XD
Of course, I don't have one yet, but now it's definitely getting decorated whenever I do get it!

    8. I have badges and pins and stuff all over my bag but mine would probably stand out anyway since I use a bowling bag with stars all over it and then the buttons and patches it is super easy to find

    9. I tend to add the little cell phone charms from the companies to the zippers of my doll carriers. So the two carriers I have from companies have little zipper pulls. My third carrier I made myself...so in a way I kind of customized the whole thing. Hehe. ^__^
It's quite easy to find among other bags because it is large (big enough to fit a hooved Soom Amber) and in a brown patterned fabric. I also have little cat pulls decorating the zippers.
Even so, my bags tend to be rather unadorned in the grand scheme of things.

    10. I have not customized mine as much as I want... yet... But I do have a couple pins on it, and zipper pulls/cell charms attached. I don't want to do anything to it that disrupts the integrity of the bag, ie sticking pins through it, but things that can be attached to the outside are fine in my book. ^__^

    11. Somewhere I have a Ruby Slippers luggage tag, so if I wind up getting a bag that A) looks very similar to every other bag out there (a distinct possibility!) and B) I don't want to actually paint on (though if it was canvas-y material, I would just paint on it. But like a leatherette or something), I can mark a bag as mine.

I also have a huge collection of pin badges and keychains, so I don't worry about standing out *grin*.

      =^__^=

    12. I hadn't thought of it before honestly but *eyes DOD bag* I think it's a wonderful idea. After all the bag is black and plain with no personality at all, and I like my stuff to have personality. But I think I'd rather make my own bag because then it would be totally customizable :)

    13. I haven't gotten around to making a doll bag yet, but customizing is fun. A while ago, I did customize my weaponsbag (wooden stuff for aikido practice) with a Kenshin embroidery patch made by a friend of mine using her machine.

I think it would be fun to have pictures of the dolls on it :)

    14. I don't have a specific doll carrier, but the bag I tend to carry my boy in is COVERED in my entire button collection. XD

    15. Everything I own has a very distinctive 'this is mine and not yours' customization to it, so it's not something I've ever worried about. XD I buy things for the ability to make them my own, hence this hobby.

My current doll carrier is a large rolling craft bag, black with quilted flower panels on the pockets. It has a really solid interior, so nothing I add to it could harm my dolls if it wanted to. I haven't done it yet, but it's getting anime patches stitched to it and charms hung from the zipper pulls.

    16. My first bjd should be arriving next week (Kid Delf Bory girl :D), I can't wait! But I'm still new to everything!

I plan to take her with me to Anime Expo this year, but what is the best thing to carry a doll around in?
I've seen people carry their dolls around at smaller conventions in baskets or even just in their hands. What do you think is the safest option?

      Thanks!

    17. If you can make or get a carrier that would be best, I fixed a Nightmare before Christmas bag to a carrier by placing most of my dolls blankets that they came with in her so that they would be safe, . . . . sadly my collection keeps growing so that idea is not going to work for all my dolls any more >.< .... but one thing NEVER let your girl out of your site, sadly the bigger the convention the bigger risks people take, I've worked many cons and it's scary how fast something gets away, and also CONGRATS!!! Bory might be my next Luts doll! .... after I pay off my Shiwoo:sweat

    18. That is very true. Someone at any time could grab, especially at Anime Expo (I am going too again this year I'm pretty sure :3 Hope to see you there!) However, in my con/doll experiance, nothing has happened. The worst that that has happened, is she got a bit sweaty from being carried in my hands, or dropped (onto carpet thank god) I'd say get a carrier yes, or just keep them in your bag and not take tem out till a meetup or soemthing. However, that's boring so you could just carry in your hands and not let go.

    19. When I went to a con last year I had a slight advantage as I was with several of my close friends. So someone always knew where the dolls were. That being said, if they weren't in the carrier we tended just to carry them in our arms.

    20. I took some of my dolls to a small anime con once. I carried around my boy Ari for a bit and the poor thing was grabbed for left right and center. So make sure you have a good solid carrier and when you do take your doll(s) out, make sure you put on your crazy face to scare the grabby handed fangirls (and boys) at bay!
