Doll carriers? What do you use?

Sep 26, 2004

    1. It depends on how many and the size of the doll(s). For my Zaoll and smaller dolls, I carry them in a large tote bag, duffle bag, or SD size doll bag. SD+ I carry in the duffle bag (up to two, can also fit some tinies), SD size doll bag (up to two), and a rolling suitcase. I recently fit 3 SD size dolls and one Yo size doll in that rolling suitcase. It was...and odd fit. XD; I've also fit two Yo size dolls in my purse, with nothing else in it except my phone and wallet. If it's just one doll, sometimes I'll carry it, but I prefer to use some kind of bag.

Nope, actual violin cases >w> for MSDs and other small dolls, violin cases work great since they're super durable, with padding on the inside and the hard outer shell.

    3. Most of the time I put her in my suitcase when I taker her along. Wrap her up het cushions and find a place between the other things so that she cannot be tossed around.

    4. I was at this antique shop one time, and there were some serious kick-ass vintage suitcases. I got the biggest one there, a huge, black metal one just starting to rust. It has foam in it for protection, and now I carry my dolls around in this enormous case that makes people double-take where ever I go. ^ ^

    5. My boys travel in a big rolling craft case. ^_^; It's really sturdy, has lots of pockets for their accessories and all four of my dolls (an SD, MSD and two Yo-size) can fit in it nicely. I bought it to a convention with me a few months ago and it worked perfectly.

I might have to consider getting something else when I get my 70cm, though...

    6. A coffin? o.o

A violin case wold have been cute considering that my doll's character plays the violin, but no. I have a cute "exploration" looking trunk for her.

When I don't have my dolls out to change or take pictures, they're in the carrying bag, in the closet.

    8. Ah, ok. Thanks! :) That was the type of case I had when I started violin in school. I have one of the cloth covered oblong ones with backpack straps now. Maybe I'll look into finding a tiny violin case for mine at some point too!

    9. They have a bag that I bought from someone local, that she made. Its very durable, made of upholstery and foams.
My little mini girl though, often rides in my purse. ^^

    10. Hi, and sorry for all the posts. I'm so new and so full of questions... LOL

Now, I've four dolls on the way (thanks to my wonderful customers willing to pay me for commissions in dolls! YAY TO THEM), and I do plan on building a display case to have them in when I am not carrying them, photographing them, etc, simply because I don't want them to get dusty/dirty, and I have a small parrot that could potentially deal REAL damage.

My initial plan for bringing them out and about was to carry them... but well, I live in New Brunswick, and we have alot of issues here with... hah... weather. I'm wondering if getting a carrying case is worth it. For those of you who do have them, do you use them often? Are the LUTS ones secure?

    11. I have some caring bags ho came as a gift from the factories (I never really bother to buy one), and I really, honestly, don't use them at all, they tend to call to much the attention to the people in the street, you can get stolen, or bother everywhere, and though it starts being something nice, over time it becomes a bother for you having to explain to someone you don't know what is a BJD and why is the bag so big, or small, or whatever, besides, unless they are made of "hard material" they are just as good as any other bag where your dolls fit in (in my opinion) if you put some sweaters and clothing to protect them, ...the most appropriate it's the "glass display" whit some bags of desiccant gel to avoid humidity to enter in the case if it's sealed (witch it's the better in case you want to avoid dust) ;)

    12. I think they're very handy for times when you want to take your doll somewhere. It's more convenient and secure than just carrying them in your arms, and much easier than lugging them around in their giant boxes. There are other kinds of bags that can carry a doll just fine though. A specific doll carrier isn't really a necessity if you don't think you'll use it often enough to justify the expense.

I do like having a carrier even though I don't use it all that often (doll meetups, conventions, the occasional lolita meetup or visit with friends)- the idea of carrying a doll in my arms outside of these very specific events does not appeal to me, including the occasional public tranport to or from the event. The carrier I have was only about 10% of the price of a single doll, less than most nice outfits and not much more than a pair of doll shoes, eyes, or a wig. I figure at that kind of price, why not?

    13. I'm also very new to BJD and had some related questions:

What should be the things you look for in a bag/carrier if you are considering one?

Also, couldn't a normal backpack smudge the face-up? What do you do to protect it during travel?

    14. Yes cases are worth it if you are going to be taking your dolls out to meet ups and the like. I use a compact travel case with wheels and handle for my 60cm and even though they get a little squished they are safe. There are a lot of companies and people that carry cases that you might prefer.

At a CCBJD , BJD convention this year I saw a gal that pushed her resin crew around on a little simple stroller, excellent idea and easy for her1

    15. IMO, it's not worth buying a specialized carrier unless you plan to take 2 or 3 dolls at once or if you have a doll bigger than 65cm. For just one 65cm or smaller doll, you can use normal luggage and medium size backpacks just fine (have them kneel)--and you probably own those already.

I have one (a Volks model), but only use it to carry multiple dolls. When I went on a trip, one 60cm doll could fit into my normal luggage/backpack. A backpack is also easier to handle and is less conspicuous than a typical shoulder/hand carrier, so I'd prefer a backpack at busy places like conventions.

Regardless of the method used, I put a face cover and a large clear plastic bag over the dolls. I am paranoid about the interior of the bag possibly scraping against the face. And I once had to deal with stains on a Dollfie Dream from where it touched the inside of the carrier. If you pack other things with them or travel through environmental hazards this would also slightly protect them from odors and water that seeps through the fabric.

    16. I have two carrying cases and I use them (well, one of them) frequently. My Dollshe carrier is a bit of a hassle, and it doesn't have straps, so I'm only taking it when I need to move more than 3 of my big boys. However I have a Dollmore Double, and I love it! I can fit two 70+ cm boys in it along with two tinies, so when I'm traveling, or going to photoshoots I'm always using it. I also love the way all my things fit in there without disturbing the dolls - so I can travel with only one bag^^

I use public transport, so carrying my dolls in my hands is not an option anyway, but the bigger ones wouldn't fit into my bags or backpack comfortably. I specifically got this double carrier so I don't have to use face-masks, since they are facing the big empty space inside the bag, and their faces don't touch anything. I find it easier and faster to take them out this way, because I can just sit them and strap them in and we are ready to go^^

On the downside, the bag is quite big and not too comfortable - so when I'm only taking the mini and tinies out, I don't use it - they fit nicely into my bag (though I'm actually entertaining the thought of getting a mini-size carry case...if only there were any sitting-position ones like my big Dollmore double^^)

    17. Hi there!

I am a new doll owner, and I want to bring her home from my dorm room over the winter break. I recently got a Dollfie Dream DDDy Miu, and have not yet gotten a bag for her.

I am curious what you use to transport your doll? I have seen the hard cases on VolksUSA, but I would much rather have a softer bag. Do you have any suggestions? Possibly something that I can find without having to order online currently, as I am pretty sure there would not be time to ship it to my address.

      Thanks so much!

    18. Yeah for dorm to home transport!

I know you need to be more cautious about staining with Dollfie Dreams, but when I first took my doll home I seat belted her in on the passenger side for a two hour drive. If you're worried about stains or sun, cover her with a white towel. A dollfie dream should be plenty big for at least the lap belt if not the whole seat belt.

That gives you time to get a case.

      Edit:

Realized that I should probably include an actual bag option too. I made my own carrying case with quilting fabric, vinyl, straps and cardboard and I love it. However, planning it out took a while and construction ended up being a lot of tailoring to make it look nice.

However, I've heard excellent things about yoga/gym bags. A white towel for padding should be just fine as long as you don't put the case anywhere between lots of heavy objects. Again, I'd recommend front seat, strapped in.

    19. Hi, I'm curious about this as well. I have an SSDF coming to me soon, and I'll be dragging him all over the place.. but I have no idea how I can keep him safe in transit! I've looked into doll bags, but I haven't been able to find one in a 70cm size ^^;

      Any suggestions, anyone?
