Doll Carrying Bags...Buy or Make or Convert!

Jun 10, 2007

    1. I have a converted violin case that can hold 1 SD (my SoulDoll Paris fits in there perfectly). I also, in the past, have modified several bags to be decent doll carriers.

      Currently, I will sometimes use my violin case carrier, but I also have 2 Dollshe carriers and a Dollmore MSD carrier. In my Dollshe carriers, I can fit 2 SDs, 2-3 MSDs, and 2-3 YoSDs. It can be a bit of a tight fit, but not bad.

      With the number of dolls I have now, I can (if I were so inclined) take most of them with me between the 2 Dollshe carriers and the MSD carrier. The Dollmore MSD carrier (I have the pink one) fits 2 MSDs and several Yos very easily. I love that it also has the outside pockets, so if I want to bring other items, it doesn't take up room inside the carrier.

    2. I made my doll bag pretty much from scratch, using measurements from my doll's box that he came in and putting the box inside the bag to keep it rigid.

    3. Just found 4 guitar or violin cases in the back of my thrift store, haha. The owners didn't even know they were there, and told me they'd only be 10$. I'll be going there to pick at least one up by next week. <3

    4. i bought one of the volks tweed bags, its quite nice and i am pretty sure 2 will fit side by side because the straps are really long,
      i passed on their violin cases because at almost 2 and a half times the price i figured it wasn't worth it.

      lol, plus i think it would look weird as i don't play violin:lol:

    5. I converted my doll bag from a crafting case. Like scrapbooking and the like. So it has lots of pockets and it came with some inserts I could just pop out and now I can use them to store other things inside my closet. Like extra doll clothes and wigs. All I had to do was add some foam padding covered in a soft white material, add in some ribbon as ties and bam, custom doll case! It fits one SD, one MSD, one Yo-SD, and three tinies, if your strapping them in. If you don't strap them in and kinda fit them all in together on the bottom and on top of each other you can fit a lot more. Even with the dolls strapped you can squeeze maybe another MSD, Yo-SD and some tinies in. I took my entire crew to A-Kon in Dallas and not a scratch on any of them. I will most definitely need another one though, my crew is just growing to much! I'll have to find something else. The cases are normally around 90 to 100$. I got mine for close to 40, then maybe another 10 for the extras inside, since it had some black marks on top so they discounted it. Only reason I got it was because of that. ^^;;

    6. My husband made my doll bag out of an old tent carrier. :P It's pretty awesome too. He put together a card board box, lined it with foam covered in soft fluffy fabric and stuck it inside the bag. :) I love it. And so does Kloey I'd think. It's her fav way to travel.

    7. I bought my carrying case off of Dollmore.net; a MSD doctor bag with chains on the side. Now that I think of it, I could've just as well converted a bag into a carrying case like everyone else. ^_^;

    8. I haul my boys around in a backpack, it does the trick and I don't get looked at weirdly for hauling it around. My four MSD's all fit in it nicely, sitting curled up on the bottom with extra props and things stowed around them and in the middle.

    9. I actually made my doll carrier, and I MEANT to keep track of images for progress and to show how it was made, but it was a very rushed effort and my camera had ended up getting broken! It's made of wood, and its actually still is a work in process, although on hiatus until my personal life settles down. It has metal hinges, coffin shaped, with a large handle and wheels like on suitcases. It isnt finshed as it still has to be re-stained, padded, and then lined with nice fabric, but it looks pretty good, though its damn heavy... It can hold what I figure would be about 5 SD dolls, so its pretty great for space. Took me 2 days to make, and I made it from my own pattern, difficult but fun. Also pretty damn expensive, should have only cost 80$ but the project got messed up, and cost more like 150$ Haha, it was... interesting.

    10. I just bought a carrier from Soom. Mostly, so I can keep my Limhwa Mano in it as he doesn't have his original box anymore. I don't know if I'll ever get around to making my own carrier, but that could be a possibility.

    11. I'm just using a big old wheelie backpack a couple of towels and the 3 doll pillows I have as a carrier bag currently :sweat

    12. Right now, I carry my doll in her original box and pillows. It doesn't have a strap or anything, but it's all I have. It fits all of her stuff as well, so its actually pretty convienent. I'm looking forward to finding either a violin case second-hand at a local thrift shop or making a coffin carrier (even though my doll isn't gothic or punk at all) just because it looks cool. I'd pad the inside of a wooden box- which luckily my craft store at home has tons and tons of wooden things.

      EDIT: What is the most compact carrier for a MSD? I have a friend who bought a wine gift box (hard cylinder case) that perfectly fits her 27 cm bjd with some padding. I'm looking for the same thing, basically, where its JUST the doll and padding with not a lot of room. Too bad there aren't 18" wine bottles... well there are, just not carriers for them. Suggestions?

    13. if my doll is finally here,i will buy one from Dollmore, or a violin bag, because i have heard that a violin bag would fit awesome and wouldn't damage the doll... but i will see.. thanks for this thread, it's really helpful!

    14. I don't have a carrier. I want one. There's a guitar-shaped one at Dollmore that I really really want, but it's expensive! So for now I'm going without. But when I get one.. that's my baby.

    15. I have 2 dollzone bags one for MSD and one for SD but i also have a old school hard shell suitcase i like to use then I am taking a lot of them with me. Also I plan to get another more knew hard shell rolling suitcase to take to cons with me.

    16. Right now I carry my darlings in Tsuki's box. However, I have just purchased the supplies to make soft/vinyl carriers. I'll be making my own carrier for them as well as making some for sale :D I'm so excited!

    17. I have mostly SD sized dolls so I finally got around to purchasing an HZ SD sized black bag and it fits about two SD's in it and my Little OceanMoon Ha-Nee if I squeeze her in with pillows but is a nice bag squishy and has straps to hold them in nice and tightly sooo (see I am terrible at all crafts so buying is best for me) I also bought a craft rolling bag that works great and carries about for or five SD sized dollies in it with room for extra stuff.

    18. I don't have one as of yet but i definatly plan on getting one from mint on card sometime next year when i have the money

    19. I don't own an actual doll carrying bag. I just use regular bags and one of them can carry all three bretty nicely when they're sitting. That bag doesn't have any battings so I'm pretty afraid of carrying my dolls in it. I've been thinking about doing a batted detachable bag to place inside that bag to keep my precious little ones save.

    20. My doll came with a faux-leather carrying case and a satin pillow bed so I carry him in that, it's very sturdy. C:
