Doll Carrying Bags...Buy or Make or Convert!

Jun 10, 2007

    1. I initially bought a carrying bag, but after being dissatisfied with the quality of it and having found some awesome fabric I started making bags back in 2006. Been making doll bags ever since.

    2. This is a fantastic thread for the upcoming convention. I have three dolls, two 1/3 and one SSDF, do I bring them all, do I bring one, how I should they be carefully carried? I can't see myself lugging around three dolls all day. LOL. Maybe just a carrier for the single SSDF?

    3. I got one with my doll, which is pretty nice with all the bindings in it. I might make an outer bag for it though, so it would be easier to carry it and I might make an extra one for my little doll, as she doesn't have one yet

    4. I just bought this bag, it has straps for 4 MSDs and plenty of pockets.

    5. I'm waiting for volks to restock their SD sized bags, but am currently using a regular backpack to carry them around. My backpack isn't long enough though, so I have to have the dolls' knees bent, in order for them to fit :S
      I have looked at similar bags from other companies, but they all seem to only have a single strap. I like double straps, so that the weight is evenly distributed, otherwise my shoulder would cry D;

    6. I have one carrying bag for SD doll and I need two or three more for other sizes.

    7. My son had this huge hardside suitcase that TSA managed to crack, so it is no longer air travel worthy, but it is tall enough for my 72cm Ash to standup with boots on inside of it. Here are three dolls inside it, I can get 6 of my boys in one side and the MSD can ride behind the zippered top. The elastic straps hold them securely for car travel.

    8. oh sweet deal! For straight 'travel' it's fantastic! I'd love to see it with all the big kids in it... (pleeeeeeease). The Carved Heritage serries from IH... may need it's own case when it's done with me :sweat
      Do you bundle wrap the dolls or just more or less separated them with some kind of cushioning?... or just like the pic shows? I've been thinking of on of these cases myself since nearly all my dolls are 65-70 cm XD

    9. I have a carrying bag that I bought from Volks for my SD13.
      It only fits her and there are some straps to make sure she's secure. There are a lot of pockets for various things like clothes and wigs.
      It's much too big for my Minifee though. I can't get her a proper one yet so I'm getting a little sleeping bag sort of thing made for her.
      It would be pretty cool to make one and have it be a lot more colourful than the ones I've found but I don't think I'd do a very good job. >.<;;

    10. I'm not good enough with my hands to actually make a doll bag. I intend on using a regular bag for my YOSD once she's here. Put her in a special sleeping bag, then in my little bagpack, think it should be fine. For my MSD I'm getting a Dollzone carrying bag for a birthday. Have yet to try that one, but I should be able to do that tomorrow. Now I recently bought a secondhand SD impdoll bag. I heard the previous owner managed to fit in 2 msds in there + a sd. I think it would be a bit cosy in there, but 2 msd + one YOSD should be easy.

    11. I have bought a doll carrying bag from Volks. When I bring boy or girls out, I use it. Back into time I had a YoSD and MSD, most of the time I put them in my big big instead of carry bag.

    12. Converted a regular gym bag to be a doll carrier. Works fine for me and it did cost about $13 usd. Using box pillows as extra padding, also underneath them.
      I can get 3 to 4 MSD's in it and the LTF's coud be on top. Has 2 side pockets for extra stuff. Unfortunately it has become too small.

    13. I don't really take mine anywhere, but I'm interested in purchasing a case from Luts.

    14. I should buy a carrier bag, I think, but since I'm always out of money I just use my big backpack. I use the pillows that have come with my dolls to reduce space from around the dolls. So far it has worked well, nothing has happened to my dolls. ^^

    15. I never really planned on getting any bags to carry my dolls, but then my mom had an extra large duffle bag around the house. She didn't want it and when I looked it over, it was PERFECT for carrying a couple SD dolls. Of course, I said yes. :D

    16. I think when I make my trip to Sacanime, if my dolls are here by then, I'll definitely take them with me. I have the artistic ability of a clam, so.....

      Buy. Definitely. I wish I could make but unfortunately that seems unlikely. :(

    17. I used a decorative "storage" suitcase as a first carry case. It fit my Pipos Curo in her box along with a chair and some fun accessories. Now I use it to store their clothes. I love how it looks next to my curio cabinets. The guest bedroom is "my" room in my boyfriend's house.

      I splurged on a seriously awesome vintage violin case absolutely covered in Hotel stickers. They're authentic!!!! I use their pillows and they wear face protection. I do wrap my MSD in a "shroud" to keep her absolutely secure and safe. It's a beaded edged placemat from Pier 1.

      I carefully cleaned it and sealed the outside and decoupagedcand sealed the inside. It's all acid free.:) it also looks super cool with Classic Lolita coords. We added attachments for a carrying strap and I use the strap for my flute gig bag.

      It was a definite "gimme grabby hands" item. The shipping from Germany cost as much as the case. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
      It worked great for Anime/Doll North.

    18. I'm going to be converting a scrapbooking rolly-type case that i found at goodwill for $6!!

    19. Converted a hardsided briefcase from IKEA into a carrying bag for my daughter's tinies with the help of some foam and soft fabric.

    20. I only collect the tiny ones so an eyeglass case works for me...I can fit one pukipuki or two realpukis in there for travel.
