Doll Carrying Bags...Buy or Make or Convert!

Jun 10, 2007

    1. just bought a hard case (not a suitcase specifically but functions like one...) for $5 from Goodwill... MSD fits in a fetal position and doesn't move at all. Inside is lined with felt, covered in faux leather. XD

    2. I tote my dollies in something a tad unconventional...I carry them in a coffin shaped bass guitar case. It easily holds up to 3 SDs( or 4 MSDs) and 3 Yo-SDs as well as extra wigs and clothes in a small compartment. The padding is wonderful. the only thing I hate is transporting it, because it's 5 feet by 2 feet and so far only has a single handle. However, I will soon be adding a strap to it in order to make it a bit easier to carry ( just so you get an idea of it.. I'm 5'2", and this case is 5' tall!)

Please excuse the cell phone pictures...
      Here it is closed...

and here it is open with part of my resin crew inside to show how spacious it is. the compartment is located in the topmost part, and my cat likes it too! ^^

    3. I swear by the regular long doll-carriers with the straps & pillows & fastex clip-bindings inside. I schlep these guys on public transport & walk them around the city a lot... So I'm not going to be dragging wheeled roadie-cases or anything else that's too hard to wrestle onto a crowded subway, I need that rainproof foam lining, and the packing has to be secure enough that the dolls can take a few bumps if I'm running for a bus. Having their limbs all strapped tight in place gives me peace of mind. <3

I especially like Iplehouse & Soom's plus-sized carriers made for EIDs and Mecha Angels. They can hold 65-80cm giants, or they can hold several SDs and their accessories, or they can hold about seventeen hundred Pukis. (With the Mecha Angel carrier, there's room for three SD13s and an extra sweater for myself. xD) Importantly, these each offer both hand-handles and shoulder-strap, which I find essential for urban load-balancing; there should always be at least 2 ways to hold something.

    4. mmm, i still carry my bois wrapped in a towel. I kno. I suck. But i lookin for a specific bag or waiting to convert one. I wanna. "Backpack"in the shape of a coffin with a window to see th doll through. Its a bit specific but im sure im gonna get. It. Whether i have to search or do it myselt.

    5. I bought a single SD sized one from Dollmore and am thinking of buying another one that can carry mutiple SD dolls.

    6. I have a DoD twin msd bag i got off ebay even though i only have 1 doll atm. But my doll family is going to grow!

    7. Definitely buy in the case of my BJD. I have:
      - A Dollmore Double BJD Carrage Bag (Goth Black) for two of my large BJD and a tiny resin pet.
      - A Dollmore Double BJD Carrage Bag (Black) for other two of my large ones, this with SDF Abadon LE cushion inside.
      - A Dollmore Double BJD Carrage Bag (DK Brown) for two large more, this with W-Buddy Jiny cushion inside.
      - A single Souldoll Carrier Bag(big) - green check for one large BJD, which besides straps, like the previous ones, includes a soft cover. I use a DF pink cushion with it.
      - A single Dollmore Model doll - 30inch BJD Carrage Bag (Goth Black) for my largest BJD, which is almost 75cm. Its straps and a soft sack are enough with it.
      - A rigid large carrying case with wheels for two of my largest BJD, as one of them is the heaviest in my crew and my back would suffer it. It goes with seven DF cushions into it.
      - An small overnight bag for my two MNF, which works like a Dollmore double bag, but in their size.
      - And some single bags for extras and stuff.
All the bags of my BJD bring pockets, most of them even inside, where the large carrying case has a huge one. Although I always carry them with their masks, my favorite bags are the double size kind ones because BJD stay sitting into them with their faces with not objects or materials around. Also, I got a carved Luts Name Tag (2009 Winter LE) for every of them.

    8. I was going to buy a carrier at a con once, but it was $60  I'm so glad I declined.

It'll cost me way less than $60 to make a doll bag. Plus I can tailor it to my needs, make pockets, cushions, and what not for my dolls. I'll probably make it extra wide too. So yay for customizing your own doll bag!

    9. Well as I'm soon getting my new doll, I was wondering who uses a carrying case when they bring their doll out. I personally have one of those giant purses, so i'm going to make a closable case- like bed for him and stick him in there only when I can't/shouldn't carry him.

Do you use a carrying case/only doll bag?

If so, how many dolls do you put in it/them? One in each? All in one?

Do you do it to protect them from the sun - especially if they are grey or tan?

    10. I don't have an actual doll bag made for dolls specifically, but I have a bag that I use for them -- a piece of luggage on sale from Tuesday Morning that holds three SDs or an assortment of smaller dolls. It's a duffle that zips onto a small rolling suitecase thing, and it works well. I hang on to the pillows that get shipped with them and use them for padding when I pack them up. The trick for me was finding something that could carry several dolls, but not be to difficult to manage getting in my car or upstairs (depending on where the meet up was).

With sun exposure, my apartment doesn't really get much in the way of natural light, so it's no issue at home. I also don't worry about briefly taking pics. If I'm going to be somewhere sunny for a prolongued period of time with my dark tan boy, he can wear his cloak which is roomy enough to completely cover him up and has a hood that pulls up and can keep the sunlight off -- it helps that his character is from a fantasy world where they wear that type of stuff normally, lol.

    11. Yes, I have one. I made it myself so it got all the room I need for both my dolls to take out with me.
I find it very handy all the time, cos when you are taking your kids out, there are a lot of inconvenients about transportations and handle them with caution all the time. Which I don't think could be done on another purse or suitcase that doesn't has the specific room for the dolls height (specially with my 1/3 which is hard to fix on a suitcase shorter at least he goes on his knees).

    12. The only places I've ever taken my dolls to are anime conventions, and I have a clear carrying case so that I don't lose any accessories (or feet, as Fairyland tinies have magnetic hands and feet). I plan to get a proper carrying/storage case for them in the future, but it's not a huge priority at the moment.

    13. I'm the weirdo who just holds their doll. *_* I don't have a case.

    14. I use a carry case. It's easier to transport several dolls at once. Also, several years ago I had like 4 dolls stuffed into the carry case and the strap slipped off my shoulder and fell onto the ground. I was sure that something would've been broken but none of the dolls were damaged at all. Not even a scratch. So I used a carry bag even if I only carry around 1 doll for anti-damage purposes.

    15. I use a pink leather dollmore case. I normally only take one doll at a time, but sometimes I put two in it. I always take their wigs off and put face masks on them. I use it to keep them safe, and its also pretty convenient, because I can put other things in the pockets with them.

    16. I don't bother... I don't think they deserve all that special treatment *ducks flying wig*, in any case, they aren't made of glass and I don't take them out anywhere ever unless I'm going to a con. Then, I only take the ones that are going (usually two of the better behaved ones) and whatever they've got on when I'm leaving is how they go. Everything else save for the wig brush stays at home. I'd feel like even more of a weirdo if I carried them in special cases with all their bits and bobs. I own like a dozen massive handbags, everything else goes in 'em, so the dolls do too when necessary. When I shuttle them back home from my apartment at school, they get tossed in the laundry bag since there's always just a bunch of soft clothes in there. Never had a broken anything. XD

    17. I don't have a bag for my doll. Never really thought about getting one. If I'm gonna take him out I want him to be seen. If he's in a bag the whole time then I may as well have left him home. I understand having a bag for long trips where you're gonna be on a bus or a train or something, but I don't travel much as I have problems with anxiety so I just take Tovi on the occasional day trip to the mall or something and carry him the whole way.

    18. I got a violin case from my local violin repair guy. ^^ It makes a wonderful case with doll pillows and ribbons to hold the doll in place when traveling. Since it is a hard case, I also need not worry about bumping it around.

    19. I'm sure you could find a coffin shaped backpack at HotTopic or something. Then it would just be a matter of modding it to meet your needs. Although I suppose if you're gonna buy it from HotTopic, you might as well try to find one specifically made for dolls on a doll site cuz it's gonna cost about the same. :sweat

    20. I have a couple of bags for my boys :) I treated myself to a 70cm Dollmore bag a few years ago-it's sturdy, roomy and has the shoulder strap, cushions etc. I also snagged a lovely little black MSD carrier in the marketplace a while back-perfect for transporting my smaller guys. Before that, I used a carrying bag from a set of fancy grilling utensils that I purchased at a discount store and used one of the gold BBB pillow/cushion/sacks as lining. It worked pretty well, but I could only fit one MSD with no extras in it, (I've since given it to my mom to transport her yosd sized doll-it works so much better for that size!)

I've also, on a couple of occassions, simply wrapped my itty bitty tiny in a thick scarf and popped him in my purse :)
