Doll Couples...Together or Separate?

Jun 5, 2009

    1. I purchased my Lusis first and really just wanted another doll, so I got a MNF Shushu. Turns out they really liked each other. So they became a couple. No planning, it just sort of happened. <3

    2. Come to think of it, every one of my dolls is paired with at least one other doll, whether it be boyfriend and girlfriend, brothers and sisters, best friends, and mortal enemies too. They were all planned as my dolls are all characters from the same story universe I'm writing.

    3. I keep about fifty percent of my doll couples together in my own collection- Roddy & Magnus, Scree & Meg, Amalthea & Matsuri....but the other fifty percent are divided with one partner in my crew, and the other in my friends. Usually because I just don't bond well with female dolls, so all the lads with girlfriends have to be separate. XD I have the males and she has the girls, so it works out better for all. Ian gets his Olivia, Parker gets his Lyra, and Orion gets his Ariel, without me having to have a house full of lovely female dolls that I sadly just don't bond with at all. And my friend gets to have all the pretty girl dolls she loves, without any males SHE doesn't bond with either! XD Its a great sitch.

Pretty much none of the pairings were planned, though. Parker and Lyra came about from an accidental scenario, Ian and Olivia just always seemed sad without the other one around, and occasionally a pairing that WAS planned just didn't spark. Roddy was meant to be Magnus's boyfriend....every time I stuck 'em together Magnus just looked bored and Roddy looked moody. Then I plonked Roddy down by grumpy Meg one day...and OH MY WORD YOU'RE BOTH GRINNING WAT. XD

    4. Each creature on a pair. (c)
I'll definitely buy a boy for my girl. I like love stories.

    5. Calemirien is an RP character of mine that is married to another RP character that is not mine. The original incarnation of her (called Katrin) was married to the guys other character 14 yrs ago, so I just continued the RP with her.

She is out getting a faceup and a mod and I will be ordering her husband Tazsin sometime in December.

    6. Was it planed and did you order them around the same time?
Yes it was always planned but they are rarely ordered at exactly the same time or even close to the same time. My dolls are all shells for original characters from my writing so they exist in my head (and on paper) first along with their significant others, children, brothers, sisters, parents ect. I buy in order of the sculpts I find or just the character I happen to want to shell at the moment. Sometimes however I just feel the need to get a doll his partner because he is lonely.

Did you have one first and realize they needed a partner?
As you can see by my last post I didn't just randomly buy them but I do sometimes choose which doll to buy next because I really want my pairs home.

Did you plan a couple get one first, then get the other?

not exactly, I have whole worlds with complex family relationships. In some cases companions aren't couples at all just friends or siblings.

Or does a friend have one and you have the other?
I never do this because I am collecting the shells for my original characters. I don't like the idea of another person owning a doll that is the boyfriend or sibling of one of my characters. It just doesn't work for me.

    7. I am going to get my current girl parents and then buy her a boyfriend

    8. First came the two boys and then planned the purchase of two girls, the first was that Hana Hwang Lee's girlfriend, while the second is Kalishi Erick's sister. Erick does not need a partner, yet, maybe later on, as Kalishi, will ever have. She is very proud and do not put up with anyone besides his brother (is in love with him?)
      *_*
At home, Erick (Don Ringdoll), Hwang Lee (Luke # 1 Dream Of Doll) Hana Kiori (Cherie Iplehouse) Kalishi (head or Eris Doll / impldoll body) and head of Tae (souldoll)

    9. I have 1 delf boy, he's an EL and I have a delf Miyu on the way soon.
My boy was supposed to be a wolf/dog themed character. I figured he could have 2 different colored eyes like some Huskies get. I never got around to putting him together yet. But anyways, with this new girl arriving I'm debating on what to do with him. He could either be her big brother or her boyfriend.
If they are siblings I would have to have them match somehow and wouldn't work because she has a different style than him. But a boyfriend character could work out pretty good! I'll just know when I see them together I guess and go from there! ^^

    10. My Soom Gena just seemed to "pair up" with my husband's D.O.D. Homme Ducan. It wasn't intentional. They just seem to fit well together. My Soom Gena also happens to be my Volks MSD Myu's big sister. :)

    11. Was it planed and did you order them around the same time?
Yes because I wrote the framework first - I decided I must get dolls for cosplayers, then that I must create a story for them, then wrote it (making sure the characters I wrote could cosplay all the various characters I wanted them too...). So that's when I paired them up (ok, I did some subtle shipping - as in, my Renji Ionesco & his girlfriend cosplay, uh, Renji & Rukia from Bleach...)

Did you have one first and realize they needed a partner?
I did sort of - I had planned all these characters & picked out dolls that fit, etc & realized I'd left my poor Blaine w/o a girlfriend. So I quickly made up a character & went looking for a doll....

Did you plan a couple get one first, then get the other?

Yes. I have 3 dolls right now who will be partnerless for a time - but I know who they end up w/eventually :D

Or does a friend have one and you have the other?
No. I wouldn't do that, although a little flirting at dollie meets is kind of fun LOL

    12. My luts annette and DZ edward are a couple, and they were characters before I bought the dolls to represent them.

Then my friend got into the hobby and bought a doll love MK and I ordered a doll love youyou to go with him. But they started off as characters as well. I will have to pester her so she will remember to bring him when she come over, for photo shoots and the like.

    13. I only have two dolls. I got my male and immediately wanted a female for him so I went on the hunt and found her. They don't really seem like a couple or look like they particularly go together but I know they're a perfect match. Now I'm on the hunt for their first child. I'm sure after that it will end up being a sibling or two. I've fallen madly in love with puki's!

    14. First, I just wanted a girl doll who was very 19th century/lolita/pretty dresses in her style and fell in love with PW Lavin.
Then I realised I wanted a boy, but I wanted him to be completely different.
With the help of cheap storytelling tricks, I made it possible for them in their respective worlds to meet and hang out.

First I just thought of them as friends through a series of unusual circumstances. They would help each other, complete each other with their differences. But still be picking on each other, like friendly fighting.
Suddenly a friend of mine pointed out that my "couple" was so cute together and I thought that she had totally misunderstood their relationship. But she thought that it was so obvious that they were a couple.

The thought grew in my mind, and I have decided that after my dolls' characters develop a strong bond of friendship they will eventually fall in love and become a couple while still maintaining that friendly fight thing they have going on.

    15. I only have couples with my best friend~ c:
Most of them were planned, but there was one occasion in which the dolls themselves decided to fall in love in a sense. Originally, in their story, my boy was mortally afraid of her girl character, but when we actually put the dolls side by side it was... a whole lot different.

      Some of them came at the same time too, and I'm planning to get one of my dolls after -or at the same time- she gets his partner, because my boy's character is somewhat of a loner and I wouldn't like for him to be 'sad and lonely' so to speak. We're also planning to get our oldest, very first OTP in doll form soon and we decided they simply CAN'T come separate so we'll order them together. xD;

    16. I prefer to own my couples/friends myself, with the exception for my tinies. My tinies live in a shared universe with my best friend and there is love and friendship all over the place.
With my characters, I don't want to share them with anyone. Not that my friend isn't allowed to photograph her dolls with mine, but I won't include her characters in my story. Probably also why I've never been much of a RPG'er.

    17. As my collection grows I will definitely have couples because it suits the romantic notions in my head! :D

    18. The whole idea of getting another doll just came from the general want to have two dolls to pose together, and interact with each other. So it wasn't as much as I had already planned for him to have a girlfriend, it was more of a half spontaneous thing (It still took a good 2 or 3 months to find the right sculpt to compliment his personality though). But as of right now, they are both important characters in a story I'm working on, so that's just kind of a bonus I guess.

    19. I have a tendancy to like to pair things off... Be they couples, siblings (sometimes both. o.O) or characters from the same setting.

I have tried to get a 'set' at the same time before, although it simply devolved into another round of 'musical dolls' and fell by the wayside. Now it seems I manage to find the 'missing piece' a little while after the first has come into my posession. (Ashelyn for example was purchased first, but Nathaniel followed only a week or so after, while my Dollzone Dragon baby was alone for many months and I had no idea she would have a connecting doll at -all- until I stumbled upon the beautiful head (my soom Gena) at a Meetup which became her big sister.)

My newer dolly plans will vary, but mostly due to finances I imagine I'll be buying them one-at-a-time, though I have each sculpt (six sculpts, seven dolls) planned out and their characters ready and waiting!

    20. For two of my dolls to become a couple was not really planned, it just happened. I kept placing them next to eachother for some unknown reason and from one thing came another.
      As for other bonds:
Shortly after Elysa arrived she became Maze's long lost sister (only because of the funky hair *lol*)
Phoenix is head over heels in love with Elysa, but she keeps denying him
